Do you still have the curved shaft you changed out on the stihl weed eater
Not down in oz Steve 🤣
Can Echo Chef fit on a Husqvarna motor
Can a husqvarna engine on an echo shaft
Thanks! Buying you some beer!
Hey, that's awesome buddy! Thank You...
It would be fun to spend a day with Steve. Smart guy!!!
The only channel to watch! Steve is absolutely the go to for information! ❤
Wow, thanks!
Always come to you Steve when I need help
Legend bro
Cheers
Just what i needed to know. Thanks from England 👍😁
Win, win for you and the customer. But seriously that is a very useful tip for us viewers. Thank you and thumbs up!
You're Welcome...and Thank You...
You are a star Steve, I bought an FS50 curved shaft thinking it would suit me better but it didn't ,Now , thanks, I know it will so I'll search around for the FS55 shaft .Much obliged Steve , Ian
Right on
someone just gave me an fs45 and I had a straight shaft in the shed Your video made it eeeeeeeeasy Thanks Steve
Right on
I sadly have a 2017 Troy Bilt (20cc?) Straight Shaft I purchased and LOVE.
The Straight Shaft is great for reach, but for comfort I'd rather have a Curved Shaft!
Plus it's REAL NICE that I was able to make a Carb Tuning Tool with a Watertight 12g Electrical Blade Connector... The Round End is "Just Tight Enough" to go over the Air/Fuel Adjustment Screws!
And saved myself $20 from Amazon for a Kit Set! Still would have been nice to have, but Ingenuity is AWESOME!
Thanks again Steve!
Take care,
🤓 -Thomas

You're a shade tree guru! Love work around! There have been a couple of tricks you've shown in the past that I tried with great success! Drilling out the jet in the Briggs carburetor was my all-time favorite. Until your video! I was constantly cleaning out that jet! .01 made so much difference! It's unbelievable! Haven't messed with it since and runs great!
That is awesome!
Hey Steve. I have a Sthil straight shaft FS131R weed eater. Will the KOMBI blower head work on it?
Thanks!
After watching this video, it inspired me to try a little more mechanical know how to do what I did. I have a Troy Built interchangeable tool shaft line trimmer that is very hard to start. And a Ryobi that runs like a bat out of hell with a curved shaft. So with a little sawsall work, I was able to adapt the interchangeable tool shaft on to the Ryobi. Now it is a very useful machine. Thanks Steve, I have been learning a ton from you and now I've started a lone wolf lawn care company I'm working as hard keeping my equipment serviced at home as I do out on the road.
Thanks for your many videos. I have a Stihl KM 55 with 4 attachments (trimmer, edger, tree saw, hedge trimmer). I use it often, and your videos have enabled me to keep it in great shape for 20 years, repairing when necessary.
Very nice!
Hi.
Consutation.
To a curved shaft of fs38 or fs45,can the fs55 reduction box be installed?
Thank you! I bought a curve shaft stihl trimmer and I hate it! I asked the dealer if I could put a straight one on it, they said no! I am so glad you had this video on changing it out. I can’t wait to change mine. Thank you! Joe
You're Welcome...
A lot of curved shaft weed-eaters are sitting around with broken flex cables. I've always felt a straight shaft (with gears at the business end) lasts longer. So another PLUS for the job you did!
Right on ...
Steve, youve got a video upload for nearly EVERYTHING mate!!, You are an amazing man!!! Thanking you 👍
Thank You...and You're Welcome...
That's awesome! I'm always replacing parts with "new used" ones and it works fine! Instead of throwing things away and buying a new weed eater retrofit it and make it work! I love it! Good job Steve for saving the man some money!!
Thank You...
Steve you're an absolute legend!
Thank You...
Saved me money!
So, I have a Husky 125L with a seized shaft (cable & guide insert melted together inside shaft housing).
In the free section in our local Facebook Marketplace, I found a straight shaft Homelite trimmer. & thanks to your encouraging & informative video, I fixed my Husky! Only mod needed was to drill a small hole for the locating screw. Works great.
Thanks Bro' !!!
You're Welcome...
Again, you are the man Steve. Saving people money....... BEER MONEY!!! THANKS ☺️
You're Welcome...
Underrated comment
I made a seal fs38 using a Ryobi shaft interchangeable shaft into a compass system all I had to do is take a drill to
Good to know. I just bought the Sthil head that fit the curved fs45. Been on there 17yrs now.
Thanks, needed the locator bolt tip, could not get the head to seat up in to engine head, was also wondering on head placement on shaft. That bolt is the ticket for line-up and full motor head engagement. GOT-IT
Great information Steve ! Don't stop now !!!!
Thank You...
Which straight shaft should i buy to fit on my stihl fs45 ?
Great tip , i did not know you could swap from one to another , have a Great Weekend Steve.
Thank You...
Thanks Steve - this is exactly what I was looking for! So pleased you shared this with us. Now just to find a FS-55 shaft!
Glad to help
I like it and I'm gonna change mine too from curve to a straight shaft. Thanks
i think you just saved my behind big time steve. where i'm from you can't find straight shaft trimmers from stihl or from husqvarna with ring handles (only bycicle style ones). so all i need to do now is buy a straight shaft replacement and stick it in my fs 38. thanks a lot !
You're Welcome...
Hell yeah Steve! I was hooked when you gauged the job by how many beers it would take! Great video… can’t wait to do this this weekend. ✌️
Good luck!
After 30 years of doing lawn maintenance, both professionally and for family and friends, l will only own a straight shaft . My Tanaka is the extra long model. I'm 5' 10" and when stood on end it towers above my head. It's great for getting under trees, bushes and cutting deep ditches and tall steep embankments. Not so great for small tight spaces, but I mostly do multiple acre lawns.
awesome video. im hunting for a straight shaft right now to o exactly this. I was also having trouble putting my curved shaft body plastic together. but ahhhhhhhhhhhhh I see that middle screw is a locating screw!! bingo. Gonna try that NOW then see if it all snaps together easily. Still dont know how to fix the trigger and spring part though.
69$ for new shaft. $45 labor $193 for new SF 40 weed whacker. Thanks for the video.
Thats freakn awesome Steve. I would have never even attempted this b4 the video.
Right on ....
Just got a straight shaft from a neighbouring course for my home bent shaft skipper that I dislike. Works great just have to unseize my ckutch from sitting in the shed. I’ll have to drill out the pilot hole for new . Different location Great idea I’m going to enjoy snipping again lol
Great video Steve, I hope your customer isn't watching coz that's the easiest carton of beer you'll ever earn lol cheers for sharing.
Steve ROCKS! Crazy SIMPLE. Always learn something.
Thank You...
Great tip Steve, thanks. And congratulations one the success of your channel.
You're Welcome...and Thank You...
Great video. It is quite a coincidence, because I just adapted a Shindaiwa trimmer head to my Stihl hedge trimmer. Works great!
Bob
Right on ...
Had to hit that silver play button to watch this one....!!!
Made a frankenweedeater after watching this.
Thanks bud! I came to see how a trimmer shaft connects to the motor - My fear was removing the motor and 50 million spring-loaded small parts dropping out. My Einhell split-shaft trimmer is bone dry, so I'm going to dab a bit of lithium grease on the shaft connections and also at the head. :)
You're Welcome...
Great info about being able to swap bent for straight shaft. I’ll start looking 👍
I think your customer bought the wrong head…I have one of those heads that fitted perfectly onto my bent shaft fs45….called a Mowing Head - DuroCut - 5-2
Very interesting. I had no idea that you could just swap them.
Good job! Worth the watch.
Thank You...
Greatest web site ever period !!!!
Thank You...
Cheers mate! I'm now on the hunt for an FS55
Hi Steve ,I had the same problem ,now because of this video, its solved many thanks ,Al, from over the pond ,UK
Right on Al...
Perfect, I have an FS45 and like the straight shaft better also. I didn’t know what shaft would fit, now I’m all set. Will get parts and do the same conversion. This weed eater won’t die, guess I’ll keep her running in some new clothes. As always, great stuff Steve. Got some Coors Light waiting in the fridge......Take care
Right on Mike...
Hi Steve,
Would a straight shaft from a Stihl FS56 also work? Thanks
Thank you Steve, I have a Stihl fs 48 curved shaft , maybe I could do what you did
Great Video. I installed one of those universal heads and it was a Echo Brand.. I use it on a Echo PAS 280 I didn't like the auto bump design. I use 150 line and it works great for PAS 280, I can get about 2 to 3 yards of use with the 2 piece of nylon string and I don't use the saftey gurd I use a full mesh face shield helps with air ventilation over the sold plastic face shield..
Just bought a fs-38 curved shaft. I would rather it be a straight shaft am I able to change it ?
Did you ever find which straight shaft is compatible with Fs38? I tried asking Steve as well
I have one of these but I want to buy the fs 91r I from the Caribbean love this show . Keep safe ppl
Thanks !!! I now know I will exchange the shaft I ruined. Thanks again !!!
You're Welcome...
Learn alot of useful info from your videos Steve. Thx for making me easy money. Keep up the good work. GOD BLESS
Right on ...

Thank You...

No thank you bro your the awesomest
Steve, I just bought a second hand FS38. I can’t get the trimmer head off. The bump knob just keeps spinning and spinning. There’s also some in and out play in the whole head. After watching some videos, I wonder if it’s the bearing. But hard to inspect when I can’t get the head off. Any ideas?
No need to reply. Got it figured out. The head was completely smashed inside. Bearing is good. Has to cut and pry the head open, then grind a channel for a flat head screwdriver into the end of the shaft to get the head bolt off. New head on the way, and good as new. Thank you so much for the videos Steve!!
great video steve love your videos
Glad you like them!
Found your channel by accident... and I subscribed. Great tutorials.
Right on Al...
Hello from the top end of Australia . Another great video hardly had time to get a beer and you have finished 👍. I’ll just have to keep watching your videos so I can have more beer
LOL! Right on Cam...
After you have changed what you just did can you add the attachments to it (ie) tree trimmer etc?
Hey Steve your awesome with that repair knowledge. Thanks
Glad to help
Your humor is great
Thank You...
Your timing is impeccable! I have an Echo straight shaft that the engine filled with water & died. I bought a used FS45 and the driveshaft is broken. I would really prefer a straight shaft, as it's what I'm used to, and I have to cover a large yard. I read hints that I could do exactly what you showed. Before I spend another dollar, I'm going to the barn in the morning to see if I can't Frankenstein the Echo shaft onto the Stihl motor. Shaft diameters seem to be the same, I'm betting I can...
So yes. You can make an Echo SRM-225 shaft fit a Stihl FS45 motor. Just needed to drill a hole for the anti-rotation bolt, and add a wrap of electrical tape, the Echo shaft is 0.5mm smaller in diameter according to my calipers.
Of course I filled it with bad gas and now it won't run 🤷♂️
Some fresh gas and it fired right up. Has WAY more grunt than the Echo did. Powers through brush like nothing. Just need to swap on the Stihl handle, the ergonomics are a bit off
Nice one! You've got me thinking now whether it might be possible to use a different manufacturer's shaft on a motor.
I've got this Multi-tool style unit but the motor is a gutless piece of cr@p .
I have a couple of line trimmers that only get used if my main unit fails, so I might have to rip them apart and see if I
can transplant one of the motors onto the multi-tool shaft.
Great video Steve.
Oh btw by Multi-tool I meant similar to the Stihl Kombi system
I didn't know that was possible! Great video Steve!!!
Thank You...
@@StevesSmallEngineSaloon you're most welcome...
Thank you for this video.Could you do a similar swap from a FS 40 to fs55 or is this specific to these two particular models?
Have a great running toro curved shaft given to me but the trimmer head was DOA. Didn't matter because I thought of the old ryan straight shaft in my shed. To my dismay the Ryan shaft didn't work with the clutch housing on the toro. Should I look for toro or other brands that would work with it ?
Hi can you do that change to the echo too ???
HELL OF A VIDEO BRO!!!!! Rock on............... peace and love brother
Thank You...
hey steve i love watching your videos! i have a straight shaft weedeater with spine drive and a i purchased a bed redefiner attachment and it has the square drive, do they make a part that coverts one to the other? i dont want to spend the money for another weedeater.
Thank you for your quick response!
Any time!
Did you have a chance to lubricate the head pull cable out Clean and lubricate it
Thanks man. Got this down. Ha I have a craftsman engine I got for free and it works but no shaft came with it. Going to find one to slap in there now.
Wow, that's too easy. Good instruction, my friend.
Thank You...
Just finished mowing edging and blowing. My Stihl curved Shaft whipper also sucks. I have a Stihl blower also but I would like it to blow harder. Any suggestions? Great short clip on the conversion. Cheers from Australia.
Great informational video. Very clear instructions. Easy to follow.
Thankyou Sir.
Glad it was helpful!
Dude, thank you Steve Wow that was cool man I had no idea
Glad to help
Awesome. How do I put the end of my vs 40c back together???
Wish I had known that years ago. Keep coming with the great tips.
Right on Buddy...
Thanks for sharing Steve 👍🇦🇺
You're Welcome...
Great video Steve
Thank You...
Can you use the power broom attachment head on the straight shift fs55r?
Question item 3 pile in somebody’s yard I picked up a steel ST 45 trimmer curved one like the one you just did in this video it was surgeon I got that running but still seems to be burning oil I don’t know if the guy that had it did a heavy mix a mix of oil or could it be just tired thinking about putting some money into it but not sure any advice would be helpful
Those quick load heads sre great
Right on
Great Vids, many thanks, can you do this on Honda Trimmers ? i have a Bent shaft, must convert it to straight one ! is it donable?
Hi buddy !! My head or housing got crooked from trimming some heavy brush. Do I just loosen the bolts and twist it ?
On FS 85 bike handle could you convert it into a loop handle might just buying the complete cable system with trigger everything for the loop is it possible
Thank you Steve!!! I have a question. I have a Solo weed eater that I have replaced the head but still seems to bog down. Is it possible that the cable is binding? I have had it for 20 years and runs like no business...
Half Bier job:) love that!
Right on
You should do a video of choosing the right gear head to the correct shaft for a strimmer as there is so many to choose from
Can you do this with a husqvarna 130c ? Convert to straight shaft
I have a Toro straight shaft with one of those circular saw style blades. Will that go on the newer Stihl fs50 curve. LETS FIND OUT!!! WOO WOO!!!
Minnesota out...
Are the fs 55/56 shafts the only ones thatll work? Ive got a 38 id like to try this on.
Great video thanks for sharing
You're Welcome...
Hi Steve. I have a curved shaft Homelite UT33600A. I need another trimmer head for it. I have been looking with no luck.
Got a styl fs 38. Which straight shaft would you recomend or are all styl straight shafts the same?
Wow brilliant video I’m gunna do this to mine thanks man! 👌
Have fun!
