    I own a 1996 725tds, it has almost 400k km on the clock and it runs perfectly. Its pretty beaten up from the outside i bought it for 3k€ but im getting it back to its former glory slowly. Replacing the bumpers, better wheels, technical and electrical stuff is being replaced one by one. Also honorable mention that im 1 of 3 in my city with 85k inhabitants with a E38. That is my 2nd car and honestly im not regreting that i sold my e39 for the e38. Best car that i will ever own probably. Im only 20yo and my dad is also helping me restore it because he really wanted one in the 20s but they were really expensive back then.

      It really Sounds Like a great project and like your and your dad are gonna have a lot of fun with it haha
      Did you need to Do anything to the engine so far too?
      I literally nearly bought a 530i E39 6s manual for 1,8k Like a month ago, that had a water damaged engine but 220k km and no tust or anything... Planed on having it as a project, just Like you (though I'm 17)
      And something that would be really cool to know... In what ways is the E38 so much better than the E39? I love them both and consider on of them or an Audi A5 B8 as my first car🤔

    You forgot the 730i V8 (M60B30) with 218 hp. Generally speaking it can be a great car to own but you need to know or to learn how to repair things on your own, otherwise this car is going to consume your money. If you are looking for one, try to find a 740i non facelift, because they dont have the Vanos.

    • @MrPista
      @MrPista  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh damn, did I? My Bad... The mini V8s are kind of weird to me, so I honestly didn't go too deep into them.
      Well, most cars of that age need some accasional or a lot of maintnance, money and love to stay alive haha. So I absolutely agree that leaning how to fix stuff yourself is super important!
      I'd actually be looking for a 740i too, though the Vanos is kind of a gamble... Sometimes they fail, sometimes not and some have been fixed anyways. But it surely is a good thing to look out for👍

      @@MrPistaI drive a 730i with the M60B30 engine. It’s just a slightly underpowered V8 😂. But they were quite common back then, since it was the starter engine when the E38 was introduced. The 728i came later. Before, the lowest you could get, was the small V8 730i.

    I found a information wich says 4.4 v8 engines actually have 312horse power. .
    Bmw change the info because they wanted to increase selling number on v12 engines.
    About maintance...
    If you change engine oil every 7 000 km there will be no problem with chain and the plastic into the engine.
    There can be mpre ecetric problems than actual other parts..

    • @MrPista
      @MrPista  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sounds quite interesting... I mean it makes sense, but I personaly have never heard of that before 🤔
      About the oil, try finding one where the plastic hasn't gone anywhere and is perfectly fine so you can preserve it that way haha
      But it's a good point regardless! For example to check how well a previous owner trated his car or to preserve a freshly repaired, rebuilt or refurbished one.
      I mean they are pretty Reliable engines in general and a ton of the ones for sale here in Germany are quite high milage (like 300-400k km aren't rare at all)
      And their electrical faults and quirks are super annoying and can get expensive quickly, but I don't think most of them are too bad or f*ck up the car entirely

      @@MrPista yh i understand. after my dad had his 728i minorly written off but it was 110% easily repairable i was struggling to find even an e38 in black, never mind if its a sport, or whatever engine. I spent a solid 4 years since 2017 to 21 trying to find a decently priced black e38 but i was only looking for a 728i
      then came something more than i bargained for. in 2021 for £1900 British pounds, a 2000 black 740i m sport with m parallels, contour seats with wood tv screens in the headrests, and sunroof tv etc. It is my dream car. im doing everything i can to make sure absolutely nothing happens to it. ie. driving it carefully,
      putting locking wheel nuts putting steering lock and making sure it's parked away from main roads cause of anxiety.
      in the US, the car isnt special but in the UK it's something big my friend. you never see e38s often and when you do you only see typical spec ones.
      I truly think that one of the reasons the e38 is known but not known to the popularity level the e39 is is because they never did a top gear review on it back in the day. if they did, yes you're right, they would be known much more and it would be universally considered the best looking sedan/saloon car ever.
