Yes, modern day cars have crush points that cushion the impact and protect the occupants from more severe injury. Go search for the video of the modern Corolla crashing into the old Corolla.

Radar detector is alot more descret and easier to grab when u keep it on the driverr
Lower corner. Walmart has plenty of velcro strips cheaper than the rear view mirror mount and easier to hide when pulled over
