    Hi, resident DDK4LIFE. I actually saw the move at T11, however I didn't realize *why* it worked until you played out the variations. I think I might have played that move EVEN without the R15 security... and failed that way. Which I guess is ironic?
    Love the Shibano games. Keep them coming. He plays like I wish I knew how to.

    BIG Congratulations to Shibano Toramaru today!!!!! He's the youngest Major Champion in Japanese History!!!!!
    Shibano 19 years and 11 months old -- beat out Iyama Yuta's record which had been 20 years and 4 months old when he won his first title in 2009.
    Shibby Cakes beat Cho U 4-1 in the Mejin title match to win his first major !!!!!!
    He turns 20 next month, so I guess he wanted a birthday present early ????
    WAY TO GO SHIBBY CAKES!!!! WE LOVE YOU!~!!!!

    Amazingly, the game is contained in AlphaGo Teach's database up to move 15. After black G17, the only move it offers is white C6, which has white's winrate at 57 % - in other words, absolutely even. Here is how that variation would continue to play out: online-go.com/demo/view/420360

    "White extends the doomed stone inorder to get better shape"
    Proceed to play an empty triangle.

      Compare it to playing C15 right away and it definitely is better shape BOTH for living shape and endgame purposes

    Hi, Dwyrin! I'm watching all of your videos for some time, and have to say - that one have changed COMPLETELY my opinion on your on board reviews - it is nice and clean- themed well, structured, interesting, and is underlining your way of thoughts and play too. I'm glad that you've made it, thank you a lot!
    I would love to see some more deep thoughts on how to decide on when to attack for profit, what shapes could and what could not be cut, and when to stop attacking. You have covered this theme throughout the video, but I have not undestood, for example - till the end of a game - I had a hanging question - what if W saves the two stones on G15, than B goes D7, but can not white falsify this eye? Like E8 move.. That would've been interesting to go through, especially after W got some stones around on B6 and F3 - isn't this group dead? (supposedly there is no ko for the bottom part of W, ofc.)

    This "defending" style is rather popular with some pros. Ignore an attacking move to take a larger point, then defend. If the attack can't compensate for the value difference, you are ahead. And judging how much the attack will be worth - that's part of the game. That's a valid strategy, don't be too harsh on players who do that :)

    Was there no better move than connecting at h13? Like extending on either side. That running group ruined blacks game

    • @Terrestrialbeing24
      @Terrestrialbeing24 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I put it into Leela, I guess connecting is preferred there, and black's real mistake was earlier at P16 which only encouraged white to go up into the center and profit off blacks center group. Q17 is has better chances.

      7dan pro vs 8dan pro. However shibano is now a 9dan pro so i guess that would technically be more accurate now...

    Shibano is successful only because his opponents are not Alpha Go. We consistently see the same problems with human players (even the top Professionals) struggling with the A.I. style of play. They try to mimic it, but simply do not have the raw processing power it takes to really overcome whole-board influence. There's also the "runaway train" effect: one small mistake in the beginning escalates to complete disaster by end-game.

    • @dwyrin
      @dwyrin  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can change that to say 'insert player name here' is only successful because his/her opponents are not alpha go. So.....there's that

      This is why I'm against going all the way into Computer or Alpha-go style. It's ok for situational use , like everyone's least favorite joseki of 3-3 attachment out of a low approach. However, taking larger plans into view, the computer just sees way more variations than a human can, so it's not a good idea to take mid-game or severe fighting sequences and just plug them into your game.
      I think the Gold standard for mixing the human solid style with AI moves and joseki suggestions may be Park Junghwan. That guy scares me.... He even beats Shin Jinseo ---- all the time!
