In this video, Mommy shares how to make traditional Cold-Pressed, Extra-Virgin Coconut Oil and Pure Coconut Oil. It was a team effort- Narie husked some coconuts and Uncle Mukesh husked, cracked and grinded most of the coconuts. I hope this video is helpful to you! Mom mentioned that if the oil is made during full moon, the yield is greater. What are your thoughts on this? I haven't tested out the theory yet, but I will in the future. It's also dependent on the type of coconut and how mature it is. We only got 1 1/2 cups of oil from approximately 15 coconuts. Have a happy Thursday!
A big thank you to your mom for demonstrating how to make coconut oil! The old fashioned way is the best way to go most of the time. My grandmother says when she was younger in Guyana and her father and uncles picked coconuts, they would come home with over 50 coconuts and the whole day would be spent making coconut oil. They did it similar to your mom as well, by letting the milk sit before boiling it. Such a process but definitely a labor of love. I have so much appreciation for this video. Thanks for sharing Reshmi!
Agreed! It was definitely a labor of love. Lots of hands went into the making of this oil. Mom learned this from seeing her parents and grandparents and she wanted to share it. Glad you appreciate the video! Thank you for watching!
This video was amazing thanks to all those who participated in this video. The moon does play an important part in our daily lives, my mom would only trim our hair when the moon is growing she said “it would make our hair grow faster and healthier and it is very true.
Amazing video. I and my wife use this method too and is motivating to see mommy doing this. It will encourage us on our journey to traditionally produce coconut oil for commercial purposes. Again your mother is a virtious woman who understands tradition. Standing when the funeral passed for last respect and the roasting of the potatoes made me even love your video more. I am proud of you all and I pray for more strength and inspiration.
I love this video this is how my grandmother made her coconut oil. I couldn't wait for it to cool to eat the brown crisp to the bottom of the pot, we use to add a little brown sugar to it yummy. Thank you for bringing back some fantastic memories of my grandmother.
Hi Resh and family, I used to make coconut oil this way, years ago as a teenager. My grandfather taught me and we used it for our skin and hair. I don't make it anymore because it's a lot of work. Thank you, your mom, your brother and uncle for sharing how they do it.
Hey! It certainly is a lot of work but it's a labour of love for sure. I love rubbing the oil on my skin and hair, it's the best. Thank you for watching!
Thank u for sharing this video. Always wanted to learn the traditional way of making coconut oil. I use it once a week in my hair before shampooing and conditioning.
Thanks for this detailed vid. I always wanted to know d exact procedure. So wonderful. I bet it smells divine. Thanks to your beautiful mom too Resh. You all are d best!
I love coconut oil and it makes babies smell so eatable now i can make my own after watching dis video.....When mandy makes baby your mom is gonna make lots of coconut oil for her im sure
Love how you made this coconut oil, like how you got the coconut out with a hand whisk, very cool Trini. Definitely getting a like from me, thumbs up girl! Keep up the amazing tutorials, love your channel and I wish you the best, almost 60,000 subscribers...congratulations!
I always make my coconut oil. But from.now on the last residue after making the oil I'm gonna add to some muffin batter or something. Fyi. I also have learned from my grandparents to stand when a funeral passes. Tks for the full moon tip. I follow the moon for everything planting. Cutting my hair etc etc.
I dug it oout and blended it because I'm lazy loll but it worked ! I also placed mine in the fridge, it was easier to scoop out for me. Thank you for thisss
Any stories since you near the creamation site? I use to love hearing stories from my grandmother growing up. She's from Princess Town, Trinidad by Garth rd junction.
That's a lot of coconut left in the shells using that mill. It's better to dig out the coconut from the shells and grater them or blend them. Plus there are ppl out there that can make you a coconut grating mill that is much faster and you don't waste any coconut. In St. Vincent we don't waste coconut at all.
Hey, the higher the heat, the darker it will get and the quicker it will finish. If you want a clear coconut oil, leave it on a very low heat and it can take anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour.
Approximately 15. I don't suggest putting the milk in tbe freezer. What you can do, is dig the kernel out and let it dry and form the "copra" and then make the oil out of that.
Nice video but you do know you can put it in the fridge over night as well. Instead of leaving it on your counter. When u put it in the fridge the oil get hard an remains on top the water, easy to take out. Btw please buy a tongs for you mom to use on the fire side. Poor woman burning her hands lol.
