There are some iconic unsurpassable moments in piano playing. This is one.

    Lionel VIGNERESSE.

The pin-drop silence of the huge Albert Hall audience is a tribute in itself. And she rises to the occasion like the great artist she has already, at 24, become.

@Mookie Spindlehurst Since we are watching her performing "live" the present tense is fine. Otherwise, was would be neccessary in the first sentence.

@Mookie Spindlehurst As I said before, because this is filmed and can be watched again and again there is no need to describe what happens during it in the past tense. If you review a film you say Anthony Hopkins is superb throughout, not was. If you describe the Godfather you say a lot of people are killed during the movie, not a lot of people were. Finito.

Its really special when silence allows to hear a pin fall at Royal Albert Hall ❤

I'm a pianist who was very familiar with the Schumann song before ever hearing the Liszt version. Both versions are beautiful, of course. Familiarity with the song only enhances the experience of the transcription. Gorgeous piano playing here!! Consider me a fan of Beatrice Rana, and off I go to purchase her Goldberg Variations.

Magnifique. Bravo.

I listened to this Prom concert as it was live-streamed in 2017, and was instantly grabbed by this 24-year-old's playing, for reasons I couldn't put my finger on. Since then her career has developed to the point where she's in high demand, and commonly viewed as one of the very best pianists of her generation.
She is still young, and a 'work in progress' as I'm sure she would acknowledge, but - having listened to her a great deal since - I haven't become aware of any technical or musical barrier to her reaching the pinnacle of her art. To my mind, she is operating at a higher level, musically speaking, than all but a small handful of the many classical performers I have heard in my 60+ years.

Brava!

It reminds me of the FULL MUSIC TRANSMISSION, without any facial grimace, as Jascha HEIFETZ did in this piece.

I know it is good, but I cannot help feeling it is too fast and musically muddled.

I also don't agree that much on her interpretation on this piece, but she makes a clear case of her audacious choices. the fast opening is definitely intended, making a sharp contrast with a much slower "du bist die Ruh" section which also makes sense with the context of the original lyrics. also notice how she maintains to naturally sing through regardless of the tempi - this reminds me of the great 19th century styles and I'm really happy she brings it back to life. not my favorite, but certainly the most welcome one.

Listen to Ameling or Prey or any of the great lieder singers and you'll hear how pianists play this way too slow.
