OMG 😆 this is one of the best music 🎶 videos I have ever seen in my life 💯❗️ So early seventies rock 🪨 opera style! The New Seekers’ cover of this “The Who” song 🎵 from the rock musical “Tommy” is the best in my opinion! ❤
When I was 13, I would have married any of them. I still feel that way today. I didn't care if they were considered cheezy then and I don't care now. They were the epitome of what I considered the England of Hammer films and Bowie and Monty Python and Pink Floyd to be and they still make my little Anglophile heart jump for joy. 💖
Been a fan longer than I care to remember and I have only just discovered this promo video! Marty really gets an 'edge' going here which I wish he had had the chance to do more of. But it was the harmony on See Me Feel Me when Lyn joins Peter that was always the highlight for me and the look she gives him here is worth a thousand words. God rest him and continued blessings on Lyn - lets hope its not too long before her next album - check out 'Late Night' if you haven't done so and one day we might get a recording of her as Mrs Johnson in Blood Brothers!
I came here as 'Pick of the Pops' recently featured a 1969 chart countdown and the Who's 'Pinball Wizard' was played by Gary Davies. I thought this version was actually better, like a number of people who have already commented. Unfortunately we don't often hear chart rundowns from 1973 on 'Pick of the Pops' so people these days have probably never heard this version. Great video. I recall first seeing it on 'Top of the Pops' and thinking what a departure it was from previous New Seekers singles.
I believe it got to number 16 in the charts at the time, shame, it should have got to number one. Brilliant vocals that only the New Seekers could pull off.
@@WaltGekko They played it all the time here in Kentucky and also places in the South and Midwest. Anytime I was traveling in those areas at the time or even a bit after it was on the Billboard Hot 100, I'd hear it on the car radio. I always enjoyed the version by the New Seekers. :)
I grew out of my early '70s crush on Eve Graham, but still love this single to bits! And Marty Kristian and Paul Layton look so alike that it's uncanny.
I literally haven't heard this version in 49 years. When I heard it, I checked out who originally did the song, and I've been a Who fan ever since. Great version, though.
Never heard of this group, much less the cover of this song. Pretty amazing to hear someone cover this so soon after the song was released. Shows how popular Tommy was. What an incredible album.
@@concretebuilding Their most well-known song is "I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing" off the back of a huge Coca Cola campaign. That was a big hit worldwide. "Free To Be Me And You" is probably their most obscure recording.
Yes, it should have made No.1 - the New Seekers were just so professional, so adorable yet sang with real feeling and presentation. How many hundreds of hours of practice is encapsulated in this three and a bit minutes! Just look at that little duet from 1:42 by Peter Doyle and Lyn Paul - the look of love! Thank you for posting this great video by a great group - this would have to be one of the great music videos, what a difference from the "stand and deliver" type from the 60's. A seminal video, one might venture.
Visiting my brother at Warwick Uni in '74, I asked the Uni radio station to play this version and was ridiculed for it. I felt, at the time, that it was more rhythmic than The Who's. Just listened to Tommy after a 4 decade hiatus which prompted me to play this version again.... The Who's version is fabulous but this version is pretty damn good too...
Performance was better than the original and Townshend new it. Great recording.. If only The New Seekers had access to more songs like this back in the day. Great memories though !
Brilliant example of the NS. They were touring in America at the time and didn't promote in the UK, and this video was never released. Peter Townsend from the Who congratulated them on their version . Also when the charts came out, on a Tuesday, initially it was reported at being number 14, but only for a short time. The promo video was way ahead of its time , and am I crazy to link this to Queens classic bohemian rhaspsody video?
No one will like me for saying this but I prefer this version of Pinball Wizard to the Who's original and Elton John's cover. The instrumentation and vocals are fantastic. I'm not even a New Seekers fan.
I never realised that Marty sang lead vocals at the start... I always thought that it was Peter. Can I recommend the 5 album CD box set to anyone? 'I'm so glad that the 'Live at the Albert Hall' is included.
My favourite bands are Napalm Death and Carcass, but this is Amazing,I love the Who obviously, ten out of ten, this is beautiful and Joe Elliot told me about this 😀🍺🇬🇧
What absolutely Awesome versions of these fantastic Who songs! This band (manufactured or not) were made up of quality singers, the male lead singer should have been in a folk rock group (check out Boom Town, B side of I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing) and the two girls were like an English Abba (ok maybe not quite before I am pelted with insults) but they sure can sing!
Hi David, agreed.. Peter Doyle would have been great in a folk rock group or even just rock as he had a great `rock` voice to my ears. Nothing wrong in what you say regarding the female singers..they were both superb!!
A great cover; if only they had followed this path. Interesting note; after 7 seconds, it syncs very nicely with the opening credits of the James Bond movie: SPECTRE
After Peter doyle left in July 1973 it was only the matter of time they break up i like peter Oliver he was a good replacement for doyle but the sparkle had rest in peace peter doyle i was always a fan of yours i wish they would release on cd skin deep album from leicester
Great track, great video - TNS at the absolute top of their game. The B side to the single of this was completely different but beautifully performed throwaway number called 'Time Limit' by a certain Mr Kristian, with a simple but effective little guitar solo that I've always loved. My hearing is gone now, so watching these video tracks brings the music to life for me, images to match the music in my head. Does anyone know if Time Limit (and also Mystic Queen, another personal favourite, also with great guitar) exist on video at all? I'd give anything to see either.
Had no idea this existed. Kinda like Abba but i think there is five of them. One girl has a Dolly Parton voice but groovy. Man I just want to have a Coke and teach the World to Sing ... Has it all. Let's unplug and bring good stuff back. I wanna go to the arcade and play air hockey until my knuckles bleed again. I will take on anyone. :) Then we coul dgo for "fries" (whole other story) and go tobaggoning (sp?) with our wine skins and make a big fire in the snow and all lean all over each other in our Parkas with some loner ice fishing somewhere and likely gets a "soaker" and then a gril goes up to him and takes his socks off and helps him. Next thing you know someone is pregnant but that could be worse but things work differently in the land of the North and we make it all work out eventually. Back to the song. Yeah, love the well worn machines and interesting that the girl looks to the guy with the whole "feel me" because when I go see Tommy like 10x in a row at the movies back to back each night I was never quite the same because this song touched me so deep. Deep enough that my now long time big brother who also loved this song but had a heart condition played it (piano) and I would sing and even though he had a heart condition, he was still my brother so I cut him no slack and so we would try to kill each other. I sort of broke his leg in three places once a bit but the the sibling rivalry stopped at the piano with this song and he is gone now over 30 years and I would give anything to hear him pound this out and have him pound on me next. My son hears me play this all the time esp the intro riff and I hope he picks it up. Geez one of you kids do a remix or fusion of this with something or whatever youkids do but save the music before we older cats are gone. Please save the planet and the music (arts). Thanks for listening (reading): th-cam.com/video/wo3nB7UpPOw/w-d-xo.html Little ditty about not Jack and Dianne but ~~ Oh yearh thatis is my other song but listen to "(Need A) Breath of You" -right from the heart to your ears. Good version of the song from The Who. Although I do like the Elton John version from the movie "Tommy" based on the album of the same name. And yes, I do highly recommend watching it if you never seen it and listening to the album.
Forgot how gorgeous Eve Graham was... one of the underrated beauties of the 1970's
This is a great version
This is wonderful
This was the best version of Pinball Wizzard what a great band loved the New Seekers.
Yes! And the best version of See Me...!
If your listening to this today , you are awesome
Thanks!
Thank you 😊

Just gotta know what to look for
I know I am!
Been looking for this version for a long time. I still have the MGM 45 of the song and still love it.
I bought it on UK Polydor when it came out, Woolworths in Bristol
51 years later and I'm still listening.
Eve Graham & Lynne Paul both beautiful girls. They were a very good group. 👍👍
Always loved this, such a full sound of the Orchestra behind them, amazing production.
The Who's Pete Townshend congratulated the group on their version of the song. What an awesome compliment
When?
I actually think it’s better than the Who’s version.
@@wirralchap it's in the description!
Wee fella!
@@rubybettes5972 Yes definitely better than the Who version.
@@rubybettes5972 Me too.
An excellent, minimalist promo, showcasing their good looks and vocal precision.
The song itself has a huge sound that measures up to the Who.
Yes indeed!!!!
I still get a buzz listening to this. Bloody wonderful
Oh yes, magnificent
OMG I still love The New Seekers 🤩🤩🎶🎶🎵🎵🧡🧡💖💖💕💕
They look so damn iconic, it's emotional. Great song, great singers, great arrangement. Always a winning combination.
Look their very coolest on here. And Marty has never looked more beaut!

Just a brilliant and talented group. By far the best version of this song....and Eve Graham...WOW !!!
That is actually quite moving. Who suspected they were capable of such amazing dynamics?
Brilliantly put together
This is awesomely brilliant and no wonder when you admire the magnificence of those singing.
Absolute quality.
great cover version...takes me back to a kid hearing this on the radio...great memories
Probably my favorite version.

violetxoxox - Rock on! Loved that era, best time to be young. Im 62 now, where have all the years gone. 😢
I remember them very well as they were one of my favourite bands from the early 70s. Wonderful vocalists. I also loved Middle Of The Road
Well said violetxoxox!
You forgot the Carry On films ;)
I never knew they were considered cheesy.
This is THE most emotional version of "Tommy" music I've ever heard!
Ohhh the Seekers...In my opinion there's is the best version of this song EVER!!
Definitely 💯
The best version by a country mile!
