    Regarding internal seams, most metal supply companies will sell seamless “trailer hitch” tubing, the same tubing used to make hitch receivers on vehicles. It’s a little more expensive but it takes the labour out of removing the internal seam to sleeve in a smaller dimension tube. Great video here.

    Before buying this sander I would use a rotary sander th-cam.com/users/postUgkx3Pc2vLXfcgM5oIpF1iYcIWyFhHUC-G6v and didn't see the need for a belt sander. Boy was I wrong. this belt sander does the job quickly and gives a professional finish to the wood work.

    I'm impressed that you ever built this thing your process is haphazard at best. By the end of the video I will have drawn up my own set of blueprints and all I will have to do is translate them to S CAD program in the stops for each tooling change and parts change weld it all up on the inlaid line and bolted together then it's simply a matter of closing the poors in the steel with a durable high polish finish and inlaying high speed steel shims will take out all the slop the proper coat of paint and graphite embedded bronze washers and a good spring will complete my build

    Nice vid! Why the need for such heavy wall box . 3mm-1/8 would suffice. Could suggest using industrial 40mm piano/strip hinge for tilting mechanism on top of pillars to eliminate a lot of laser/fabricating. Tilt limit could be a welded stop. Position lock easily sorted.

    • @HouseMadeUS
      @HouseMadeUS  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of people suggest this modification. However because we tap into the tube steel in multiple places those thinner walls would not hold a good thread for too long. My goal was to build an industrial grinder that was like a tank. It has been built 1000 times over in multiple countries now. Tried and true! Thanks for watching and I appreciate your suggestions. 👊🏻

    I thank you for showing me how to make this HD grinder Bryan , my first build turned out ok but it's not 100% perfect like yours it is a start of a build to build better builds, im making small steps every week to buy my parts, I started in January and finished in April and iam building a medium sized cnc router 24x36x18 with 3x nema 24 stepper motors, 3x 1605 ball screws, 3x 2 sets sbr 16 rails, 1.5 kw air cooled spindle 2 HP, vfd AT1, 3x tb 6600 drivers, arduino uno r3, +shielded wires and epoxy granite the aluminum extrusion frame now I'm onto building a lathe with c channel and 3/8th steel plate with thrust bearings,2"shaft, hgh 20 linear rails, 1.5 HP motor ran with vfd and potentiometer, plans to make it digital read and cnc/manual control then I will move on to a power house milling machine I want to design. But thanks Bryan for your knowledge I put 3 dollars towards patron every month for you to help you spread yhe knowledge on projects, thnx again NM

    Awesome!! Man, it would be so cool if you had a kit where no cutting, drilling any metal, or filing (within the tooling arms is the hardest with little equipment!) would need to be done. Just weld everything together, get the motor, wheels, and VFD, and off you go! My biggest hold back is mostly the drilling. I don't have the equipment to drill holes that size. Very cool stuff!

    • @camillosteuss

      buy a mini mill and a boring head, also a drill chuck and drills... You can have such mills for 600-750 dollars, i know it aint cheap, but it actually is, as a mill is a superior dill along with having the capacity to do work that no drill can do... With one you can make parts that would otherwise be costly or unavailable as they are to you, as you can see... It is an investment, but one that if you are in the mindset of making things, will pay off quickly... So much so that you will buy a mini lathe along it sooner than later... Custom screws, custom nuts, custom parts for so many things with just the relatively small machines for a relatively normal price... You can pay bosch that much for a good hand drill and it will never be as good as a little chinese geared mill with some tooling... Heck, you can spend what a mini mill and a mini lathe cost together on just a good drill, and granted, such a drill is not for tubing, but rather for stone and such things most often, but a magnet drill by a reputable company can pay for both and still not be able to do what the two can... Of course a mag drill can do some other things, but hey, you know what you need and want... Dont let me talk you into something...

    Hey brother. On your tensioning arm when you are cutting out the front and back sections. Just a thought but you could cut the 30 degree angle into those two pieces as your are initially cutting them out of that makes sense. It will save you from having to measure again and cut the piece for the spring later while also the horizontal arm a little more clearance and might look visually appealing as well. Hope that makes sense lol

    When you welded the tensioning arm to the hollow section that the motor plate is also fixed to had to faff around with a digital level. If you had done this operation before even fitting the motor plate could you not just have laid the two components on their side on the table top? From what I can see this would not have hindered the subsequent fitting of the motor plate or the swivel lugs on the other side.

    Question please for those of us located downunder who would consider buying this kit.
    Our power supply is 240Volt single phase AC 50 Hertz.
    Some of us also have 3 phase available which is 440Volt AC 50 Hertz.
    Presumably the CNC drilled plate to attach the motor is drilled to suit USA 110Volt AC power supply.
    I’m guessing the VFD options likewise won’t suit our power supply?
    Have you considered maybe having the design available drilled to suit a motor that would work here & likewise a VFD that would match?
    The only alternative I could think of is build it as shown here and buy a 240VOLT AC to 110Volt AC transformer, to run it.
    I’m guessing the international air freight costs on all this steel would probably kill any cost savings by buying the kit.
    Also with the Covid shut downs I’m guessing even air freight flights are probably delayed by months.
    It’s a shame, coz this looks like it would be a fun build. 👍

      Hey Ian, I answered your question on the other video, I think you could build this in Australia for sure and the motor/VFD combo would be very similar. Shipping to Australia would be very expensive but if you could find someone with a laser cutter the DXF cut sheets are included with the plan set.

    I don’t know. If I’m going to buy some laser cut part kit. It would be nice to have all the fabricated laser cut parts. Tube lasers make stupid short work out of all that drilling and sawing but seemed half spun.

    To address the weld seam I would simply grind a small depression running the length of the outside of the inner tube, just wide enough and deep enough to accommodate the weld seam but having full contact on the rest of the surface. It's easier less time consuming and doesn't require special tools or hours of filing by hand using a file and some sort of long handle. I'm a poor boy.

    • @reecebriere6705
      @reecebriere6705 ปีที่แล้ว

      I started working on my kit yesterday and you only need to clean the weld out of the 2 main body tubes, and the small piece for the work rest. I think it took me about 10 minutes to do it all with a flat file. Not too bad!

    At 1:36 in the vid If the pivot was closer to the belt it may be better/nicer? This could be done with the existing parts if welded up a bit differently I think and adding clearance for the pivoting table parts?

    Attachments - do you have a video showing how to the attachments are built and fit? Contact wheel and small wheel attachment specifically. They should probably be obvious but I'm about to start my build and would like to see how the attachments are made and how they fit into the grinder. Thanks!

    To remove mill scale .... Harbor Freight paint stripping wheels . You won't do it any other way , once you've used those . Just be careful to keep the rotation arrow, on the grinder ,pointed towards the edge of your work , to avoid any kick-back . HF wheels are almost half the price of the 3M brand .

    I bought the laser cut steel pack in metric. It looks perfect. The plans with a lot of instruction are amazing well done and this video gives me just what I dreamt of. I have been thinking on what happens when the belt brakes. Does it fly around or does it just fall down. In the first case I would consider adding a kind of security arm to catch the belt. Any experiences?

    • @HouseMadeUS
      @HouseMadeUS  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks Jesper. The belts actually don’t hurt when the break, they just fall. What you want to be aware of is when they tear and then it becomes a slapping machine. Don’t ask me how I know. Lol. (I was fine and it only hurt for a second)

    Since you have a Mill... you should be teaching precision... using a punch that is the same size as the hole... will help to get hole punch marks correct rather than using a sharpie... which is really not something you should be using. Better to use a scribe and proper hole punches with sharp points on your punches. In fact... there are many really inexpensive punch sets with a number of various hole sizes. The other thing you can do... is buy a good rod measuring set... and sharpen one end of the rods to a point. That way you will always get your punch marks centered. As you say... that is most important. Right. Its easier to do it right with the right tools... then having to cut new material because you did it cheap with little care. Precision is really important. Especially when you have the tools to do it right in the first place.
