tara is one of the best black metal albums ever! totally out of this world and without comparison. the key word is intensity, i agree. second to none. vocals are unique too and crazy as hell. their worst albums are the ones after the reunion. the spirit was lost. second best bm band from the us is grand belial's key.
Absu are awesome! One of my fave bands. I got a chance to see them at Nottingham Rock City in the UK several years back and they friggin slayed! Tara and Absu are my faves but here's hoping "APSU" will finally see the light of day.
I'm glad you did this after the Bathory video. ABSU are one of my favourite bands and definitely the best USBM band in my opinion. The only thing I'd disagree with in your list is that I'd put the last album Abzu near the bottom before Barathrum. The Sun of Tiphareth and Third Storm of Cythraul have more charm and atmosphere than that album (though that did get ruined a bit with the recent reissues which leave the intros and synth interludes out). But Tara is undoubtedly their masterpiece. A perfect album and still puts a smile on my face everytime I play it.
Great review ! I've seen them changed and seen them live back when they were wearing make up . Every album has a powerful song not necessary all songs are great . I don't think Barathrum was mediocre is a great piece of metal must be in collection .
My favorite Absu albums (worst to best): Barathrum Vitriol The Third Storm of Cythraul The Sun of Tiphareth Abzu Absu Tara Personally I don't think they ever released a bad album (or even a mediocre one) but their more thrashy style of their last three albums clicks with me the best.
Absu are a long time favorite. A go-to for me has always been the raities/live disc from the Mythological Occult Metal comp. But for proper alums, it's gotta be Tara. But, honestly, I haven't heard anything from them that I don't love. Great video! Always enjoy hearing your take on things. Stay strong, be safe!
I have loved Absu and will love all albums forever. One of a kind occult metal. The Sun of Thifareth 1995 is my fav. That is the first I ever bought. I truly wish the lineup would have stay the same !!! Stone of destiny is amazing thought. Long live the king, the king is dead !!! (by the way Slayer WAS on speed, LoL!!!)

Awesome video! “Absu” and “Tara” are some of the best black metal albums I’ve ever listened to. Absu, along with Black Funeral and Crimson Moon, represent the very BEST bands the usbm scene has to offer, in my opinion. Their music is filled with an unmistakable occult majesty, great songwriting, and dark beauty.
While I try to separate the artist form the art, I can't do it with Abzu and Vic Crown with his "now im a lady" shananigans. Feeling creepy while listening 2 it haha

I have to check them out, now I'm interested. But in my opinion best American Black Metal band(or at least one of )is INQUISITION; unfortunately the band has a nasty stain due to Dagon's child pornography charges (whether they're true or not that he's guilty of).
Inquisition is good, too, but not as good as Absu IMO! Let's hope Inquisition will make a new album at some point. They were getting better all the time.

In black metal I can't just listen to a band that plays so fast to a point I can't barely appreciate any melody or that play in a way to a point that it's not interesting or sounds pathetic. Everyone have their own music demands and tastes. To me a band must have important elements to appreciate such as melodies, bass tones, different tempos and drum rhythms that are attached perfectly in a song, topics or themes that make sense etc, not just speed or screeching vocals alone like some bands always do. That's why even though there are so many black metal bands, not all of them call my attention. I am in no way an elitist nor kult(that's plain stupid) but that's my preference in metal in general. It must pump me up, make me want to listen again and again, keep me interested and search for more, you know...make me love their work both musically and lyrically, not bore me to death. You know what I mean? So I'll check Absu, sounds very interesting.
