  • Overview on how to replace the thermostat on 2012 - 2017 Jeep Wranglers with 3.6L engine. This had the P0128 code. Hardest part of the job is bleeding the air out of cooling system and getting heat again! This video may work for the Cherokee as well?

    I never understood why people drain the entire system to replace a part at the top of the system. You’ll have very minimal coolant loss by just removing the hose on the thermostat.

    Just take the intake tube off and the hose clamp. Then remove the thermostat. You might lose a quarter cup or maybe a half cup from your coolant. Youll cycle that tiny bit of air out just getting to temp and driving. The reservoir will fix the small amount of air bubbles.
    Plus, if you leave the hose on the thermostat until you have the thermostat off youlose basically nothing. Put new thermostat on the engine, and then remove hose from old thermostat and install on new installed new thermostat. No air to bleed really...id think

    Thanks for the information, bud. I got a P0128 with three key turns to on with this service job. Temps only got up to 172° on the scanner. I remember this code from all the GM temp sensors ive replaced. Pretty simple setup for the heeps. Ill be using the mittyvac to remove air first. Hope i dont have to open the bleeder to get it right.

    Ride the Jeep up ramps, so you point the front end up and the air can make its way up easier.

    • @DjCBlaq
      @DjCBlaq 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah it's better to have it up on ramps when you start. Keeps the heater core full of fluid. Then the coolant you lose is just from the radiator, hoses, and maybe the water pump.

    Im hoping this fixes my issue. I dont have a check engine light. But when i do city driving(stop and go, and speeds at around 40mph) it goes from 1/2 to 3/5 then it goes down the 1/2... i have no issue with highway driving

    My 2016 got that code at 55k miles, so far radiator replaced, rear axle seal leak, from calipers replaced, a Toyota is just 1/2 way broken in at 50K miles, a Jeep is 1/2 way to death at 50k miles. Rather have it stuck open, than not open. Put it at a incline to get those bubbles out faster.

  • @jbone6969

    Appreciate the vid but its less messy and faster to just unbolt the thermostat housing and let the quart amount antifreeze come out into a catch pan instead of emptying the rad

    If you park on an incline the heater core won't trap air.

    So my temp goes between 1/2 to 3/4 when I do city driving. I have no issues on a highway, it's only at slower speeds(40mph or less) and stop and go with traffic. Would this possible fix it? 15 wrangler with 90k miles

    • @queensapphire7717
      @queensapphire7717 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s completely safe to drive with this code, just means your motor not getting up to temp in a certain period of time, your T-Stat is locked open, so you will not overheat, good design, locking closed would be a problem, and cause overheating. This code will happen more in cold weather than hot, as you’ll use the heater.
