    I can tell you put your heart into this build. That is one beautiful bench, that can do any kind of woodworking project you throw at it. This is my 2nd time seeing this video, and probably want be my last. I lost my father back several years ago. He thought me a hell of a lot about things you do in life. I miss him a lot. Great build my friend!!!!!!!

    Awesome, gave me some much needed inspiration, on trash days I like cruise through neighborhoods that have me custom or well taken care of homes, from working class homes to nicer ones. I tend to always find a good amount of hardwood furniture that can have good sized and quality wood I can use for my projects, way cheaper than buying it. On a side note, I just realized that if you have a bench build video I will subscribe to your channel. Very nice result to your build

      Thanks, Ivan. Yes, I agree. I have a lot to learn. I only have my phone to use for recording at the moment so it isn't ideal but I aim to keep learning and improving the quality of both pre and post-production over time. I am having a lot of low light issues as well which also has its challenges.

    Nice to see another Aussie on TH-cam doing woodworking. What model mitre saw do you have and how do you like it?

    • @mcdonoughdesign
      @mcdonoughdesign  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll get the exact model for you. I can't recall off the top of my head. But I think it's the Makita 300mm compound mitre. I really like it, especially the front mounted slide rails. You can save heaps of room as the rails don't extend out to the rear like other models and brands. The rear mounted rails take up heaps more room and I've seen others have to cut massive cavity spaces behind their saws to fit them in. Mine is sitting and slightly overhanging on a 600mm deep bench. I like it 👌🏼

  • @FixitFingers

    Lovely stuff mate. Perfect use for the timber and a great way to kick off the new undertaking. How's it all faring 7 months on?

    • @mcdonoughdesign
      @mcdonoughdesign  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks mate. Yep love that bench too. 7 months later though and it's looking more likely I'll be packing shelves by the end of the year unfortunately.

    • @FixitFingers
      @FixitFingers ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mcdonoughdesign it's a tough gig going out alone, brave to try but no harm deciding the experiment has run its course. Im sure Timbecon would let you pack shelves a few days a week ;)

    • @mcdonoughdesign
      @mcdonoughdesign  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @FixitFingers Yep. Made a million mistakes. Put too many eggs in one basket with my Etsy store and had that rug pulled out from under me. Then a few expensive marketing mistakes to boot. Not giving up just yet. See how the next few months go with the furniture I make in the factory I've just leased.

    • @FixitFingers

  • @johnkirwan762
    @johnkirwan762 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice job! Is the twin vise any use? I've the same end vice as you, and I don't love it, it racks easy and is fairly slow. Love the build 👍

    • @mcdonoughdesign
      @mcdonoughdesign  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi John. Yep, the end vise is worth every penny. Especially over hanging larger and awkward shaped jobs where you just need to pinch an end of something on the corner of the vise. Doesn't rack at all and holds everything nice and tight.

    • @johnkirwan762
      @johnkirwan762 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mcdonoughdesign thanks for the recommendation!

    • @mcdonoughdesign
      @mcdonoughdesign  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No problem. They are quite expensive to buy in Australia but I think weighing up the frustration of working with a racked vise or one that keeps slipping - in the end it will pay for itself with efficiency and reliability.

  • @ericmatthews7264
    @ericmatthews7264 ปีที่แล้ว

    What type of lumber is that

    • @mcdonoughdesign
      @mcdonoughdesign  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Eric. Embarrassingly, I am not 100% positive as it was pulled down from a very old shed and my identification skills are not the greatest. My guess, however, is that it is a mixture of Red Iron Bark, Spotted or Flooded Gum, Tasmanian Oak, and Blackbutt.

    • @ericmatthews7264

      @@mcdonoughdesign yeah, I’ve never heard or seen any of that here in the states.

    • @mcdonoughdesign

      It's definitely just a range of Australian Hardwoods that were used in construction back in the 60s and 70s. Some of the beams were 12m in length with no joins. Crazy how they used to make things back in the day.

    The main thing here is if you think that this workbench is the ULTIMATE then that is great I do not see the being close to being the ULTIMATE compared to many others that have built brilliant workbenches.
