Skydive swoop crash, what not to do

  • Perfect example of what not to when you are low! Learn from this so you don’t have to pound in like I did... pond needed a refill after my crash. walked away with a bruised ego and not being able to laugh/cough/fart without it hurting for a month

    I don't know if they taught you this in parachute school, but when the ground is rushing up at you quickly, that's when you pull the toggles.

      For real! He did absolutely nothing as he saw the water rush towards him at 55 mph. His brain said "this is fine👌🏼, no need for intervention."

    Hit the water with ZERO inputs. No risers, no toggles, straight to pound town. Aff1 students land better than this. Glad he survived thougj

    yeah buddy you are lucky! i have 2 friends who crash in on a swoop pound..one spend month in hospital..and my other friend stay between life and death for months cause he had open broken bones who got badly infected by the bacteria in the water.. glad you got away "nicely" with this crash... and thumbs up for sharing your mistake!! ;)

    A friend killed himself doing that, he was a coastal diver that went inland for a competition, he never adjusted for the dz altitude and killed himself on his first jump there, be careful out here.

    Everything added to the risk of a skydive increases your odds of injury or death. I swoop occasionally but not a constant and do so knowing it's rasky. VRW, is risky and my favored activity, RW, has it's risks but you make the choice.

    I've landed in an empty round reserve to get to the ground, dust explosion, but I jumped up on my feet, OK! My friend didn't fair so well, that was my "emergency" landing plan.

    I had a friend who was doing a swoop, but not over a pond. He came in too low, hit the ground, and broke his tail bone.

    Just did something similar, except i didnt have a pond.
    Crossfire 3 at 1.7, started my 90 at 480... ground doesn't give as much as water.

      @@xBoddahhh do you airball all the time or...? Not that I really care after pounding in, I have quit swooping. (Femur, pelvis x2, hand x2, and back)... this was after catching rollers off a hanger tho
      I was told by top level swoopers that even at my wingloading, and on a crossfire 3, that my 90 height was pretty high. And yours is even 50' higher?

      I was low got fixated on the water and didn’t flare to save it, you see what happens when you don’t flare 😏

      +Chris Forman I also roll in ~45 degrees the wrong way to burn more altitude. That way if I'm low in my setup I can just cut that part of the turn and still salvage it.

    Thank God hit water. That would've been a fatality otherwise. Mistakes in swooping are usually very bad.
