I’ve been using the standard motorized head and have been very happy with everything it picks up. But if you lay a flashlight on the ground, you can see an insane amount of dust covering the entire floor. I was thinking I would have to mop the floor more often, but now that I’ve seen this, oh boy this makes me happy!

    Thank you for your comprehensive information. My house has only engineered oak floors and we are limited to using vacuums that don't have beaters which damage the wood flooring. We have a Miele upright which although it doesn't have a beater function (which is a good thing) it has the issues you demonstrate perfectly in your reviews. Soft rollers seem to be the solution. My question is do vacuums with soft rollers damage wood floors and are there any robot vacuums on the market that don't damage wood flooring? Thanks.

    I recently bought a Dyson V11 Absolute Pro, and I’m very impressed with the soft roller head “fluffy”... I’ve never had anything as good for hard floors. The standard high torque head is very effective on carpet too. It’s pulling up canisters full of dust and gunk from deep in the carpet that my old corded vac never managed to extract. It’s helping with my allergies.

    My shark duo rocket doesn't do well on hardwood floors, I actually prefer my Bissell featherweight stick vacuum. It does snowplow a little bit, but I can easily vacuum up dogfood spills with it. It also converts to a hand held vacuum. I'm surprised I like it as much as I do because I found it at a thrift store about $5.00. 👍

    I've tried the Dyson Fluffy roller and the Shark DuoClean. The Shark cleaner head wins, but the Dyson wins in every other way due to the cyclones. Sharks put too much dust into the filter. They need to focus on improving the cyclone while Dyson needs to focus on the cleaner head. It's really kind of aggravating and makes me wish I could Frankenstein a vacuum.

    The bottom line is that only a few uprights are designed for and do an effective job on cleaning hardwood flooring. For myself, I still use a canister vacuum with a soft bristle brush for wood/vinyl flooring and an Upright for carpets. Also some Stick Vacs would be more efficient on hard flooring than Uprights which have always been basically designed to clean carpet. Your videos are great and very informative..

      @@VacuumWars truth is about any of these vacuums here they won't last long or hold up in the long run. Using them in a cleaning business everyday will certainly wear them out prematurely especially if you have multiple staff members using them who often just don't care. Tacony makes honestly in my opinion some of the best and most powerful uprights on the market and models that do great on all floors. Obviously the Sebo with an interchangeable head will do better, but on the tandem air models offered by both Riccar and Simplicity the ability to switch seamlessly from carpets to hard floors at the touch of a button is neat and vacuums both very well with no snow plowing

    • @WeSRT4

      The soft roller head removes dust that is attached to the floor by actually engaging the floor. Sorry, but it IS a game changer. I've tried everything and it is by far the way to go with hard floors.

    • @robwalton2007
      @robwalton2007 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have to agree with Alex on this one. The SEBO Felix floor brush is an absolutely brilliant design. Nice large wheels so you can go on ANY floor surface with ease, & once you remove the front bristle strip that totally solves the snowplowing issue. Another great floor brush that I use all the time is the Simplicity Floor It! tool that has the microfibre pad behind the bristles, picks up very well, the pad washes easily by hand, & it swivels & gets into tight spaces just as nicely as the W W Turn & Clean & Miele Parquet Twister. It is also available in a generic fit-all 32mm 1 1/4" version as well to use with any vacuum out there, such as a old Electrolux.

    We have long haired dogs. Having the massive diameter on the V8 and above motorised heads has made such a difference to wrapping. Circumference is so much longer with the bigger diameter so can’t “lock” the hairs on as much through overlapping. The small diameter rollers put me off on other vacuums.

    I’m sceptical about the spinning brush bar along with the soft roller on the sharks. Surely the stiff bristle will overtime dull and damage some surfaces? Maybe the dyson fluffy solution is a balance between care and performance. That being said, my Sebo E3 premium with the parquet tool is basically perfect as far as hard floor cleaning is concerned. They are an expensive option, but quality costs.

    Help! I too would like a great performing bare floor vacuum. For pet hair on carpet and rugs, nothing beats my vintage Royal "Franken-Vac." But, no tools with that, and bare floors are not its forte. These soft rollers look like the ticket, and I appreciate your bringing these to our attention. I'm ready to buy that Apex, or even a MOOSOO Cordless, or Jimmy JV83 just for that soft roller feature. But, I hear nothing but bad news about the Shark track record of poor customer service/ unserviceable "wear parts", i.e. need to purchase entire nozzle assemblies even under the five year warranty period.
    I know these won't be as bullet proof as an all metal Royal upright, but you seem to be using them daily in a commercial capacity. What has been your experience with breaking plastic parts and hoses getting worn by inner abrasion or cracking?

      They are lovely though (My Miele canister absolutely champs most cleaning tasks...just gotta be careful if it's on max and you've got the attachments off (My brother used it to clean his car and instead of cleaning off the dusty sponge he had, the vacuum ate it. Hilariously strong.)

    The foot print, maneuverability and effectiveness of the fluffy head on my V8 on hard floors is really unmatched, but a close 2nd most useful thing for hard floors for me are low slung headlights that illuminate the dirt/dust showing where you've been on hardwood. It's this reason that I'm looking to replace it with a Shark Ion (and often times end up using one of my corded vacs with headlights instead). I've never understood why Dyson has never included headlights on their vacuums.

From all the information that I’ve been able to gather, I’ve realized that soft roller cordless vacuums and rubber-wheeled corded vacuums are probably my best bets at doing so. However, I am still unsure about the type of vacuum that I should get.
    So I just wanted to know which type of vacuum you think would work best to keep my hardwood floors scratch-free.

      When in doubt, I recommend talking with the floor manufacturer to see what they recommend. Sorry to not be more help. Tomorrow I will release our "Best Cordless Vacuums of 2021" video @4PM EST. Once you get a recommendation from the floor manufacturer, maybe that will help.

    I'd say the Dyson fluffy head (hard floor soft roller head) is about the best there is for doing hard floors - its a dedicated hard floor tool that can pick up just about anything you'd commonly find on hard floors, and is also fully washable in case it gets soiled. Its available on the V6, V7, V8 and V10, and is commonly supplied with the "Absolute" package for each model of V8 and V10. The V7 is also available with it, but only from select outlets dependent on country. The V6 did come with it, (V6 Absolute (US but not UK) V6 Fluffy and V6 Total Clean (UK, not US) )but is largely discontinued now, so only second hand or old stock models will be able to be found.

    • @VacuumWars
      @VacuumWars  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cool, Thanks! Its good to know, I have seen conflicting things so I have just been playing it safe by mentioning the V8 and V10 for sure. Do you know if Dyson invented it?

    • @madabouthoovers9767
      @madabouthoovers9767 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dyson has had the fluffy head out for some years now - it first appeared on the V6, and this was long before the Shark Ion-Flex first came out, so I'd say Dyson originally had the idea, and patented it, so Shark had to come up with their own interpretation of the theme, yet avoiding getting sued by Dyson for patent infringement, which maybe why their model was incorporated into a standard powerhead, in addition to the brushroll, and they actually used this as a selling point, in that their head was multi-floor in effect.
      In terms of timeline though, Dyson did launch the fluffy head before Shark added the soft roller to their new cordless range.

    • @VacuumWars
      @VacuumWars  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right, I knew Dyson was first but I couldnt find a patent in an admittedly cursory patent search. It might explain why so many other companies like Eureka and Roidmi (seems like new ones every day) are basically carbon copies of the Dyson roller. Based on Dyson's promo material for the soft roller it does sound like they invented it, and they definitely were first, but there is something odd about the patent issue, unless they are licensing it out, or it could be that the idea was too general to patent in any broad way.

    • @madabouthoovers9767
      @madabouthoovers9767 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its odd, as I have seen the Roidmi as well - but the Chinese will copy anything and dont seem to care about being sued, lol. Its unusual for Dyson not to patent any new idea they create, and the fact that Shark did not do a carbon copy of the head, using a sole soft roller on it, but using the soft roller combined with the brushroll, suggests to me they were worried about being sued by Dyson for copying his idea. For all we know, Dyson may well try to sue Roidmi - as he has done with other manufacturers in the past, but whether he wins, is anyone's guess, especially if he is trying to sue a Chinese company.

    • @VacuumWars
      @VacuumWars  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good points, though Roidmi is a subsidiary of XIaomi which is a pretty big player, though it might explain the soft rollers on the Tineco and Proscenic P9, which I assume are Chinese But it still leaves the Eureka NEC122A. There are more showing up seemingly daily.

    I think the picking up of froot loops is not a realistic expectation most people have for their vacuums. I want a vacuum that can deep clean very small debris from my hardwood floor and carpet areas and I don’t really mind if it can’t pick up debris that I could use a Broom for or pick with my hands.

    I have not tested the latest soft roller vacuums, but for years my ultimate favorite has been the Twinner. It was invented in the 90's and people are still buying them like hot cakes. Only nozzle what can suck up large debris without any snowblowing. I guess it's not available in the US :(

    Is vacuuming even necessary for hardwood floors? I used to use a Shark Pro cordless sweeper and was wowed by how effective it was in sweeping dust, hair, and cereal even at the edges. The design was just a spinning roller, but it never snowplowed nor kickback things behind it. I was hard pressed to catch more with a broom, and only needing a vacuum for any crevice work.

    • @VacuumWars
      @VacuumWars  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well I suppose if there wasnt too many square footage of hard floors. I usually have to vacuum huge 3 story monstrosities with the cleaning business though so I need a vacuum that can do it quickly and well or I will end up being there all day.
