My brother had started school the day before this happened as well as my cousin Jennie Hall the teacher and they both died. The crash happened on the 23rd August but Joe died on the 25th August and mum died on the same date many years later. At the time mum was pregnant with me and I was born 11 weeks after the crash. Mum and dad never got over what happened.

This truly is such a devastating disaster! I so appreciate all of the detail and information that was given in this recounting. My father was one of the American servicemen that was assigned to help clean up when this disaster took place. He would never speak about it. We do have some journaling of his in regard to this disaster. Having to go through that school and carry away all those children’s bodies was so horrific for him. It caused him much PTSD throughout his life. What a terrible thing to happen!

As an aviation fanatic who's heard countless air disasters, it just shocks me at how tragedy can strike at any moment when you least expect it. For the people of Freckleton, this was unthinkable luck along with the fact severe weather created an even more dark scene over a little village ablaze from a plane crash. Those children who lived are little angels, along with their friends who are no longer with us. I also believe Lt. Bloemendal may have become spatially disoriented when the huge plane was flipped by that updraft and he was too low to recover, with storm clouds and heavy rain blocking his view and being unable to prevent a fiery tragedy.
P.S. Have u been to the town of Lockerbie, Scotland? That was the site of the disaster of Pan Am flight 103, a 747 airliner that was blown out of the sky over the UK on 21/12/88 with flaming wreckage raining down and laying waste to the Scottish village!

Good to watch your video on such a miserable day but finding out about a storm that caused such terrible destruction and grief on that horrific day makes you feel grateful that you never had to witness that horror. It's a shame that these days people know more about celebrities than their own local history. I for one was not aware of this terrible tragedy. The poor mother who lost her daughter and husband must have gone through hell. The atmosphere in that community must have been so hurtful. I remember well the Hapton Pit disaster as if it was yesterday, that sense of loss in the streets. How thoughtful of Bing Crosby to visit the injured. That was a nice touch. Mother nature can be so destructive. I do appreciate your time and effort and hope the Lancashire walks people can provide other interesting information that you can report. I agree with the InvestiGator that you should have more subscribers.

It was amazing of Bing Crosby to come and see the survivors isn't it and sing to them, even if it was from the hallway, poor guy. and poor children who survived. Thank you so much for your kind comments and thanks again for watching its truly appreciated.

This is horrible. My Grandfather was stationed at the base when this happened, but he never spoke at length about it. He met my Grandmother during the war, and married her in England. They came to the States after the war, and I recently found out that she was the first bride from that area to move to the U.S. I've had the honor of meeting her siblings over the years, and still have contact with my Great Uncle and cousins in Preston and surrounding areas.

Crazy isn’t it that few people know about it. My mum’s cousin was married to a man who attended the school on that day but we didn’t know anything about it until after he died.

What an absolutely terrible tragedy. As mentioned in another Comment, it reminded me too of Aberfan. This is absolutely stunning and professional reporting. I hadn't heard of this disaster despite also being local. You presented this with such empathy and respectful passion - I don't know of a professional who could have done this as well as you have. Thank you for telling the story in such a respectful, non-sensationalist, and sympathetic way. I've subscribed to your channel and am looking forward to seeing your other work.

My Dad told me of this a few months ago. He was in the UK in 1956, visiting relatives of his parents with them. One, a cousin of his Dad, was the local MP of the district who told him of the event. 66 years later even recalling this was enough to bring Dad to tears. A well put together documentary.
