It's a fine story, but it's topped by John's story that he wrote it at age 14, to impress a girl who told him he sounded like Roger Miller.

Thank you for this gem. I lived and played music in San Diego for many years. I played some country punk fiddle for a minute in a band called Big Wheel Wipeout. We played at a bar called the Tiki. On at least one occasion Steve Poltz sat in with us. The experience was overwhelmingly pleasurable. I've seen Steve play a bunch over the years. He is the real deal, a rare, hilarious, nice, authentic human. Steve is exactly the same person on stage or in front of a camera as he is at all times.

OK I'm stoked about this. Steve Poltz blew us away at the Tucson Folk Festival this year with hi delightful "A.D.D.-ness". But his love of John Prine's Diamonds In The Rough - man, in the early 70's I heard it and learned to play every song on it. It was the spark that ignited my passion for song writing.
