We all get to sit around and listen like old friends. That’s pretty damn cool. Like everyone I love John’s insight and humor and humility and intelligence. That’s tough to fit in a simple song in an original way and he did it o er and o er again. Great to hear from his brother. Thank for sharing with us!

My God. I’m not sure I can come up with the words to adequately describe how great this is and how much I enjoyed it. I was mesmerized from beginning to end. I laughed and my eyes watered up at the end.
Billy has a great memory, is very articulate, and he can spin a yarn as well as anyone I’ve ever heard. Otis, I will be shocked if this doesn’t turn out to be your most watched video. A lot of people are going to want to see this. You and Billy have performed a great service for all of us who loved John Prine.
The world was a better place with John Prine in it and we’re all poorer because he’s gone. This is going to be another night among many when I celebrate John’s life with some of his music.
Thank you, Otis, and thank you, Billy for this great blessing.

Thanks Billy & Otis. That interview was a miracle of one man’s memories. We were all graced with John’s gift and kindness. At 71, one of my favorite memories in life was watching my oldest son skipping into his pre-school singing “blow up your TV, throw away your paper…”. Again thanks for all you do Otis.

What Billy said about passing fown to generations is 💯 spot on. As a young kid i was instantly captivated with the imagery and stories from the lyrics in John's music.
Ive never know a world without his music, thats one of the greatest gifts my dad bestowed to me. None of my friends growing up ever really gave his music a chance so it remained to be a sort of treasure that only dad and i had access to and it was key to our lives' having a quirky becon light hidden from others that kept us afloat at times and instilled a sense of the world that anything and everything had potential for a greater meaning or great sense of humor. The music helped shspe me to the person I am,for the better.
Dad died in April 2019, John in 2020, My older cousin that introduced me to Sturgill Simpson died before his time in summer 2021--- i was leveled for years, just crawled out of a bottle few months ago.
I recently had a dream where me and dad where standing in line to be admitted to a concert hall. It was floor to ceiling luxurious red everywhere, but warm and comforting like your grandparents house was as a kid. We were both SO EXCITED and just nearly jumping up snd down, like "we're here!!!!" looking st each other through big gritted smiles
We were waitin to see John play. I think i caught a little glimpse of heaven in that dream

My only claim to fame is that I was in the Fifth Peg in 1970 on a night when several different singers got up to sing with the house band. It was a small stage and I was sitting right next to it. This guy gets up and sings about 5 songs that were so different than any thing else that was played. I was close enough to the stage that I could tap the bass player's leg to get his attention. I asked "who IS this guy?". He says "John Prine, he's gonna be a force to be reckoned with!" When John's first album came out the songs he sang that night were on the CD. Great stories from Billy.

I saw John Prine several times at the Louisville Palace Theater. I remember in 2010 Billy joined him onstage for the encore, “Paradise”. Like many in the audience, I had never seen Billy before but the fact that he was John’s baby brother made him an instant favorite and earned him a well-deserved round of applause.
I will never forget, or stop missing, the feeling of sitting in a John Prine audience, singing along to tune after tune with John and everyone else. There really was nothing like a John Prine concert.
Thank you, Billy, for your generosity in sharing these memories with us. No one did life better than John Prine. His music will always be a part of our lives.
    Love

Hearing Billy talk about John is so special. His music means so much to me, as it means so much to my dad. John Prine was truly, and will continue to be generational. The music he left with all of us is without question, a timeless stamp in American History. Music for the common folk, made by the common folk. I cried the day John Prine died, and I tear up still listening to Billy get emotional. His music was satire, fictional, factual, and so relatable. No matter the kind of day you are having, there is a John Prine tune that fits perfectly every time. Love to all the Prine's. Thank you Otis for this fantastic interview.

This is so good. Billy was there when John Prine played “Paradise” for his father getting tears in his eyes. And for so many other key moments in John’s long career. As a Chicagoan I also have to note the difference in Billy and John as far as accents and demeanor. John lived in Kentucky as a boy before moving to Chicago and you could always hear it in his voice, and in his songs. Billy is just like all the guys I grew up with both in attitude and dialect.

Oh, man. What a gift to all of us who loved John and his music. Billy's memory is like nobody else's. You can tell that he sees everything in his mind just as it was. To reel off all of that and never once hesitate or correct himself is darn near miraculous. It's crazy that everything you think you know about John based on his music and seeing him perform is true. Thank you for this, Billy.

I’m pushing 50, and have been listening to John since I was 15. His music has been there for me on many occasions, and I expect many to come. He was truly an original.
Listening to Billy share these stories it cements in my mind that John was the person we all thought he was. What a wonderful testament to his nature to have Billy recall him so fondly.
Thanks Billy, and Otis. Much love.

This warmed my heart and made my day. There is not a day that goes by that I don’t think about John and his music. And man I laughed out loud at that Roger Miller story. Thanks for everything Otis.

Thanks, Billy and Otis! Billy, your stories and demonstrations of love were fantastic! I saw John so many times that I lost count. Most of them were in Louisville at the Palace. I loved him like family, as all of his fans did, and he treated us that way in return. Thanks for sharing your memories and inviting us in.

This was highly enjoyable. Can’t believe I watched the whole thing. I remember when John died. I knew he had been sick. I was lying in bed. My wife came in and told me he died from Covid. I cried. Right away. And I said to her: “the thing about JP was that he wasn’t like most of them. He was still a regular guy. He was the real thing. “

Thanks for this Otis and Billy. I got turned on to John in the late 70's by my good buddy who is no longer with us. He had a 64 dodge dart with an 8 track tape player in it and someone had given him a tape of John's first album and we rode thousands of miles in that car with johns songs for our road music. We were young and didn't have a care in the world. Good times and good memories.

I lived 30 years not knowing who John Prine was. My father in law turned me onto him and I will never be able to show enough gratitude to him for that! I’m standing in my kitchen with my JP T-shirt on and tears running down my face. Thank you so much Billy Prine for these wonderful stories and for your part in making John who he was. There will never be another like him! RIP😪. “It don’t cost very much but it lasts a long while”❤️❤️❤️
