I saw Jay a few months ago at a grocery store near my apartment. He was just quietly singing and vibing to himself, I said what's up, he said what's up, as I was walking across the street he rolls by me on a scooter just singing and dancing still. Seemed like a super cool dude, glad to see him happy and healthy. Loved all the movies.
You said it, he did a partial Benjamin Button ! Happy for the bro ! I’m a nineties kid who loved Jay, Silent Bob and Clerks 🙏. I’m ten years clean from opioids now and I look and feel different as well.
I can't tell you how proud I am of guys like SteveO and Novak and Jason for finding the strength to face the problem and correct it. And thank you for being candid and speaking so openly, you have no idea how many of us you inspire
In a minute and a half Jay described exactly what it is like to be an addict. The good times are the worst times. And the hardest part of getting sober and normal is being normal. You drive around for hours thinking "now what do it do? I could be chasing my fix".
My wife and I kicked heroin addiction. She saved my life from a terrible overdose and I am forever grateful and dedicated. God bless those who are still struggling with this.
Its funny when someone is finally clean and sober there is no need of convincing someone , it shines and glows from every particle of their being. You can just see him shining. Love to see it. Was in rehab with Jay years ago and he never wanted it till now. Love to see he finally wanted it.
It's good to see all these entertainers that I love getting clean and getting some happiness and comfort in their lives. Working on getting there, myself. We'll get there, homies.
Man, fuck an 'entertainer'! Most of them have the money to get drugs when they want, and most importantly, to get help whenever they want, compared to your average person who's broke and has to wait a week to get into a Methadone clinic. Even then, they can't even afford the 15 + per day to get dosed!
My buddy had a dope problem around the turn of the century here in central NJ. I often took him to the methadone clinic in Asbury Park at 6am, as then it was first come first serve. Several times Jay would be in line and got to talk to him. He was a pretty real dude...
This is true! I worked in a residential rehab in London for 6 years, all the heroin addicts looked 10 years younger than their age and all the alcoholics looked 10 years older
It makes tons of sense that these 2 should do shows together.both were forefront of new alternative comedy of the 90s.the craziness and the recovery.they shouldve hung out back then but if they did..they probably wouldnt be here now..glad theyre hanging out.
i saw jason mewes at a comedy show last year in late 2023 and i didnt even recognize him, this dude has some serious crazy genes. 😂 the comedy show was off the rails though
In an east coaster …. From Maryland about 30 mins away from Baltimore … my first impatient rehab I was 21 years old and my mom took me to seabrook house in New Jersey… Jason was there a few months before me … one of the residents in rehab was telling me he was just there … always wished I went sooner 😂
I met jay around 1996, at the chasing Amy premier party. I ate dinner with him, Kevin smith , Mrs smith, and a bunch of the clerks cast. We took photos and had some great laughs. I’m glad to see him thriving!
The reason he still looks good even after the heavy drug use is because he simply got lucky or got even luckier with good genes. Then the added bonus of being a famous actor he can afford the better healthcare and quality that helps a good amount in my view as well. If you watch his movies started from the first to now you can see the progress of his usage and how it affected him physically and other ways, it's really quite a sight. Still one of my all-time favorite movie actors oh and he streams on twitch incase no one knew.
I just can't get over how articulate he's become. I remember watching interviews with him years back when he was slurring and sluggish. He looks so full of beans now. So happy for him
I am so grateful to be off the heroin after a 15 year run. I lost nearly all my friends unfortunately, but have now been sober for over 7 years. Glory to God for giving me a second chance at life.
Wouldnt call heroin a "preservative" but what it is though is almost completely non-toxic, or so ive read. Assuming its not cut with anything toxic, and you dont OD, it does surprisingly little damage to the body.
I was a long time heroin addict and have many (now sober) friends who were the same. There is definitely some anecdotal truth to it being a preserver. I always attributed it to the fact that you sleep so much on heroin. I feel like that helps keep you young.
9 years clean off heroin in 2 weeks myself. Proud of you Jay ❤ And, I also look pretty good for my age. Maybe all the dope we shot up acted as preservatives lol Edit: oh shit, me and Jay had the exact same practice when getting bags. I also always shot up a very small amount to test its strength. The trade off is while you don't O.D. you do completely devastate your vascular system and collapse your veins a lot faster.
Also it seems like you don't get colds doing opiods or get sick unless you don't have it, but I did opiods for like 5 years or some crap a long time and when I was doing em I don't think I ever got a cold or flu
Jay is slowly turning into Matthew Lillard lol. All jokes aside, it's great to see him sober and doing well. I know he's been consistent for quite a few years now, but it's actually physically showing more than I've ever seen. Even the way he conducts himself is more intelligent, for lack of better words
People who get sober look better then people who have been sober their whole life. You essentially go back to the day before you started using, it’s like the fountain of youth for ex users.
Anyone who enjoyed this interview should read Kevin smiths autobiography where he talks about jays drug addiction in depth. “Me and my shadow” is one of the best autobiographies I’ve ever read.
I swear to god, heroin does preserve you. I’m 34 and I get told I look like I’m in my early 20s everyday. No one in jail believed how old I was. A lot of ppl I know who were in active heroin addiction have the same story as well
You know how you get cold as shit when you're sick? It's because dope increases your internal body temperature. That's why you get that warm feeling when you shoot up. So since your body temperature is always elevated, your body produces sweat so your skin is always moist on heroin and opioids. It's like always having moisturizing cream on. Therefore your skin stays young looking.
😂🤣 what?! Have you heard their voices.... Nobody wants a character that sounds like it is dying. They could play that dead smoking woman from Beetlejuice as a cartoon character.
On q and a for clerks 3 one of audience members opened about quitting dope because of Kevin and Jason story . He was in tears and asked for a hug. The whole theater cried . Not me . I’m a MAN !!!
Ironic that i turned out to be an addict just like all my childhood heroes? Ive been clean from dope for over 11 years now but part of that addict mentality never goes away. Jay was right that learning how to be a normal person is the hardest part
Mewes and Steve-O if they'd done some sort of movie project together back in the late '90's, early '00's, it would have been hilarious! They would def have had to have strict supervision during shooting, but I think that could have been a brilliant comic duo. (No disrespect to Kev, he was great!).
Fentanyl has changed the landscape, not just with the OD situation (which is huge) but it’s even harder to kick, and suboxone doesn’t help! ( in my experience)
