Why is Betty White dying a tragedy? The woman lived for 99 years, had a true love (Allen Ludden), was an incredible advocate for animals and was adored by millions. She died peacefully in her bed. How is this a tragedy??

I completely agree with you. Betty White, dying just shy of 100, while sad, is not a tragedy. Judith Barsi, only 10 yrs old, Dominique Dunne, 22 yrs old, Rebecca Schaeffer, 21 yrs old, and Phil Hartmann, 49 yrs old, all murdered by a father, a boyfriend, a stalker, and a wife, is ABSOLUTELY tragic! Plus the fact that Mr. Hartmann was murdered and his wife committed suicide while their 2 kids were in the house leaving them instantly orphaned is also horrific. Judy Garland dying at only 49 due to abuse by the studio shoving diet pills, then sleeping pills at her to make her perfect is tragic. And Paul Walker, who did so much good in the world by helping those suffering after disasters ( with much of his own money, using his own time ), dying in a horrific car crash and burning alive, leaving a 15 year old daughter, and still wanting to help those less fortunate is a tragedy. Yes, many if these deaths were sad and tragic, but one should really consider that those who lived long, love filled, happy, successful lives, and dying a natural death over 90 years old is not a tragedy. A loss, yes. Sad, yes again. In no way is that a tragic type of death. Natural deaths are a part of life. However, murders, car/airplane crashes, overdoses, preventable heath related deaths, and other unnatural deaths are indeed tragic types of deaths. May all mentioned here rest in peace 🙏

How Heather O'Rouke and Brandon Lee didn't make this list while 99 year old Betty White who died in her sleep did is beyond me, especially O'Rouke whom died at only 12 from a treatable but misdiagnosis intestinal problem!
    Others worthy of mention:
Nick Adams - Ironically co-starred on Rebel Without a Cause with James Dean and Natalie Wood, died of a Heath Ledger-like lethal prescription drug interaction - died at 36
Heath Ledger - Bad mix of prescription drugs as mentioned - 28 years old
River Phoenix - Drug overdose, practically had a whole pharmacy in his system - 23 years old
Billy Laughlin - "Froggy" on The Little Rascals - Died after getting hit by a car while delivering newspapers on his bike at only 16
Jon Erik Hexum - Paid the ultimate price for not taking how dangerous prop guns are seriously. He put one loaded with a blank to his temple and fired it, the power of which blew a quarter sized plug of his own skull into his brain and killed him at only 26
Albert Salmi - Was in a LOT of movies including a small role in Caddy Shack as Noonan's father - Shot his estranged wife then shortly thereafter killed himself - 62 years old
John Candy - Died in his sleep of a heart attack at only 43
Lisa Blount - Found dead by her mother at her home having apparently succumbed to a chronic blood disorder - 53 years old
John Belushi - Drug overdose at 33
Chris Farley - Drug overdose at 33 - Ironically John Belushi was his hero
Margaux Hemingway - Overdose suicide at 42
Yvette Vickers - Sadly became a total recluse in her later years and her body was found mummified at her home having apparently died from a heart attack months if not over a year earlier - She was 82
Anton Yelchin - Died in a freak accident by getting crushed between his SUV and mailbox when he got out to check the mail while forgetting to set the emergency brake - 27 years old
Robin Williams - Driven to suicide by severe depression caused by an un-diagnosed brain wasting disease - 63 years old
Pier Angelli - Accidental sleeping pill and prescription drug lethal interaction at 39

Anne Heche haunts me to this day. Even if she was in the wrong to drive when she was so intoxicated with whatever drugs. She had a really hard upbringing, and even to the end of Anne's life, her mother pretty much rejected her because of the way Anne had lived (being lesbian for a few years, and I guess other lifestyle choices, drugs, etc.). But yeah, Anne suffered and I won't get into details but I had some similar pain and loss in my childhood that makes me feel for her. Hard to get her last days out of my mind.

Some of these deaths, while sad and/or untimely can best be described as fairly normal, a natural consequence of aging, or the logical outcome of a lethal habit. I'm not saying they were not sad, simply that they don't rise to the definition of dying in the "worst way."

It's good that Dominique Dunne is on this list but why is Heather O'Rourke not on this list? This little girl went through hell with her parents and doctors trying to figure out why she was in so much pain and couldn't eat. The doctors misdiagnosed her. In fact, if they had done a standard exam/imaging that was suggested due to her symptoms, they would have been able to find out the cause and treat it then. Instead they gave her medications that she was not supposed to take because she did not have that condition.
It made her cheeks swell up and she was very self-conscious about it. You can tell that from the last movie she did before she died, Poltergeist 3. In fact, she died before they were finished filming the movie. She had a blockage in her intestine that ended up bursting and that's how she died. If they would have done that exam, they would have found the blockage and it would have been easy to treat and she would have survived.
This little girl was suffering and the doctors let her, her family, loved ones and her fans down. I can't remember but I believe her parents filed malpractice suits. If not, they should have. It wouldn't have brought her back but it could have taught those doctors a lesson to not skimp on testing, especially when a patient is in extreme pain. I would consider that a horrible way to die. Especially for a child.
