Mines gone on my V70, ordered a new one but might have a go at repairing the old one. Apparently superglue and cigarette Ash is amazing for grey and black plastic repairs, I've used superglue and baking soda with great success on white plastic.
The difficulty I found was gluing the broken handle without gluing the pinion bar to it! Also, Superglue breaks down over time so is never a permanent solution. It's easier to apply in situations like this, though, as epoxy resins are to thick to place as precisely. I bought a second-hand one which has worked well. They're used across several Volvo models. You've nothing to loose by trying to repair your broken one, and it can be a good learning experience.
My understanding is that VOLVO launched the V70, followed by the V70 series II and then the Volvo series III which was a completely new chassis, engines and drive chain.
