Kody is a narcissist. It was always going to end this way. He has been slowly pushing his wives and his children out of his life. Every episode, he always says Janelle’s kids, Christine’s kids, Mary’s kids, when he speaks about Robin, he says our kids our family. The writing has always been on the wall. It was always supposed to end this way.

As far as birthdays go... My husband was adopted by a wonderful family. But he decided to try to find his birth parents in the past couple years and he did that. He has built a relationship through Facebook and email with his bio mom and actually met one bio brother. He has 4 bio siblings. She of course knew his birthday, but she asked for the kids and my birthday, too. And he told her, and she sends a card to all of us without fail, every year. At the time of his death my Dad had 9 children, 7 children in laws, 20 grandkids and 10 great grandkids. He didn't just remember birthdays, he went to games, watched practices, went to concerts and even recitals. When he went into the ICU unexpectedly and we found out he was dying, every single child and grandchild came to see him. Some from across the country. Just dropped everything and left within a day or 2. He managed to talk with each of the 20 grandkids privately before leaving the hospital. He died surrounded by all 9 of his children and his wife. The thing about it is even though there were many factors that contributed to Garrison’s death, a normal parent feels terribly guilty whether they’ve actually contributed to their child’s unhappiness and depression or not. It’s just how parents think. We can look at what we saw on tv since Garrison talked about his dad and made it clear that he was terribly hurt by him, but Kody can easily pass the buck, and take no responsibility for his actions.

I cannot imagine what will happen on the day Robin's kids discover how much they missed out on forming relationships with the other siblings because their parents sheltered them from the entire world and kept them inside a small self imposed bubble. To not give permission to visit their sister and for these adult siblings to obey their parents, shows how emotionally stunted they have been raised to be. I had a situation yesterday where a friend of mine called for help as his adopted nephew had been kicked out of the home of his adoptive parent because he turned 18 and he ended up leaving school a month before graduating to find a job and survive on his own without telling anyone out of embarrassment. Had been couch surfing. We helped the young man find a job yesterday and my friend took him in to get on his feet. What is wrong with people in the world...

I’m not convinced that Kody’s behavior is caused by the show. He’s pretty much a perfect example of a middle aged narcissist. I believe when you have problems with family, you should try harder and for longer to make it work but after years or decades of not being treated kindly everyone reaches their limit and for your own health it’s ok to go no contact. You can not live your life to its full potential if you are constantly being mistreated.

Being in the spotlight is not a valid reason to neglect your children. It all boils down to one tjing Kody hates above all else, and that is making an effort. He will not do it. When Jeanelle & Christine stopped making everything easy for him, he claimed they kept his kids away from him. That was a lie, Kody just did'nt want to make an effort, like reaching out to his kids, bothering to make sure to remember birthdays. He openly admitted last season that his favorite thing about plural marriage was that if he had issues with one wife, he could just leave, and go to another wife, instead of making an effort to solve the problems with the one he was with. His whole adult life Kody has been on the run, running from the law, from state to state, from wife to wife, declaring bankruptcy to run away from his bills. Running away & not making an effort is his MO

That's a pretty extreme retaliation for what really sounds like relatively minor human failings in the grand scheme of things! We're all human, even your parents, surely they did many good things for you. They are your only parents and grandparents and those are not good reasons for ending your connection with them. Not to mention, your children may grow to resent you for keeping them from them. Children are not delicate flowers who need to be protected from every human failing, and over-sheltering them will ultimately lead to more harm. You need to look in the mirror and question who is really being the bad guy here...

@@rlperry0She (I'm assuming that the OP is a 'she') will never be able to replace her children either. The same way her parents are her "only" parents, her first born is the *only* first born she will ever have. Her second child will *always* be her *only* second child. Her third child will *always* be her *only* third child. Her children are as irreplaceable as her parents. The difference is that her children are children and are not responsible for the experiences and hurt that can be caused them by adults. But her parents *are* adults and are capable of correcting behavior that hurts her and that hurt her children. If they choose not to, then the consequences of not being as close to her are the result of their decisions. Is she supposed to allow her *irreplaceable* children to potentially be hurt, feel insecure, feel less than , feel less loved and potentially endure experiences that she herself knows can hurt for decades for people who are adults and had the ability to change but decided to act in ways that hurt her and could potentially hurt her children anyway because they are also *irreplaceable*? Which relationship is more in need of protecting? The ones she will have for a lifetime with innocent children she brought into the world, souls who could not have done anything to deserve being hurt or neglected or cut off? Or the relationships she has with people who *know* their choices hurt her as a defenseless child, but are still *choosing* to make those same decisions, knowing that not only will they hurt her, *their* child, again, but also *because* they *know* those decisions hurt her, *their* chid, that they are making choices that show that they are *willing* to potentially hurt their child's children, too or potentially make her children feel that they are not important to them? I'm sure she knows that her parents are the *only* parents she will ever have. But Her parents *also* knew that they are the *only* (biological) parents she will ever have. She or he knows that she is the *only* mother (or father) that her kids will ever have. The difference is that she is using her knowledge of that fact to protect her children from mistreatment rather than allowing mistreatment just because the people mistreating her and potentially her children are her *only* parents. And, you cannot determine what for her is major or minor. Even if it hurts her, she is the adult, she is the parent, and as she should, maybe she would rather feel pain than allow her children to, especially since in her case, she knows just how much that particular pain can hurt. And her children are far more likely to *appreciate* her for loving them enough to protect them from that than they are to, as you suggested, "resent" her for not potentially exposing them to it. Again, you cannot determine for her what is major or minor, but it is obvious to me her love for her children and her commitment to parenting them *is* major. I can tell that the person you are replying to is a wonderful parent just from reading what she wrote, and I commend and salute her for it.

I was the firstborn and was Daddy’s girl for the first 8 years of my life, my sister 15 months younger than me was Mommy’s girl as a child my Dad meant everything to me. Unfortunately, after my brother was born when I was 8 the day trips running errands for car parts and time spent with my Dad basically ended. He had his Son, the person who would carry on the family name and I was not forgotten but pushed to the side. I no longer went with Dad for the day, my brother did. I’ll admit it broke my heart, life went on and everything is fine but I have never been able to forget that heart hurt. I know that my Dad didn’t do it purposely or with the intent of hurting me he is just from a time when Sons were looked at as being more important than daughters. Times have changed and my Dad has changed to some extent, he now shows some emotion and love things that men just didn’t do back in the day. I’m 65 by the way and am blessed to still have both of my parents with me and my siblings.

The problem for North & South Carolinians is what has happened to Colo, Austin TX, Florida etc., people have found these little gems and brought big money from the states we know most of them come from -
It destroys local economies, raises property taxes, home values and rents become so high that locals can no longer afford to live. I’ve watched it happen in several states, it’s sad that people on fixed or lower incomes are being forced out of their homes and hometowns.
I get people should go where they want, but I saw on the local news that N&S Carolina are the #1 for relocation. The next ticking time bomb.

@@QueenofAwkwardness my maternal ancestry came from Scotland to SC in early 1700s, mom was born in NC - I know or knew beautiful spots in both states that haven’t been exploited. Yet.
I remember when my other grandparents lived in Cody, Wyoming - broke my heart when Ye discovered it. Some places I really hope don’t change, but it sounds inevitable now..sending good luck to you

You would think, that after the loss of his son, he’d make an effort to reconcile with his children. This shows the type of person Kody is.

I bet Robyn’s older kids don’t even know they were invited to spend time with their siblings. They need to get out of there asap. Are they chained to their beds or locked up in their rooms? They must have desires to enjoy life.
