    What he means is that this tube amp is a traditional tube amp with passive controls.. Ashdown has the ABM line that is more about a stronger EQ section that does more on the eq knobs..

    that's the best overdrive/dist there will ever be, tubes driven to the max.

    Never really gave much thought to tube amps or ash down amps in particular, but that was an excellent demo and it definitely piqued my interest. I must stop by next time I'm in Chicago.

    The overdrive “grind” and third harmonics is where these tube (or valve) amps really shine! Ashdown is one of the companies that does this best (Mesa Engineering is right there with them). If this is the sound that you are looking for from your basses, and why wouldn’t you, this is the type of amp you want!!! I know that I do, which is why I always have at least one all-tube bass amp in my arsenal.

    I am getting a CTM 300 and 810 with the Blue Line Drivers in Tweed and have been talking with Mark and what a change to talk with the man in charge and I am looking forward to it. I have owned Ashdown in the past and the 410 combo was great.

    Thats the most SINISTER sounding and looking thing I've ever seen!!! If I can successfully pull off this bank robbery, I'm buying it!! Just kidding I'm too fat and I'll get caught. But I do want it!!!!!

  • @dougmael
    @dougmael ปีที่แล้ว

    By the way, when I want maximum sound, I opt to put my all-tube bass head through a combination of one 2x10 and one 2x12 bass cab. When I was younger, stronger, and had roadies, I played through an 85-lb tube head driving (2) 8x10s or (2) 4x12 cabinets which provided a 2-Ohm resistance. Talk about knocking down walls and rattling the glassware within a half-mile radius, that did the job!!!

    Does anyone know how the CTM 300 compares w an SVT or Super Bassman which are both 2/3 the price?

    • @anthonycampbell2408
      @anthonycampbell2408 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They're completely different animals. The Super Bassman is a jack-of-all-trades head that excels in dishing out thick lows, but ultimately makes every bass sound the same. The current SVT is a piece of junk and not even in production. If you've ever played any of the old Trace Elliot VA series amps (which most folks don't even know existed), the Ashdown is similar to them. Its sound is slightly less thick in the extreme lows, but they have the same basic tone-shaping capabilities and midrange complexity. If I could make the analogy, the Super Bassman is like a P-Bass, very useful and very familiar. The current SVT is best avoided, but an old 70's one is like a Jazz Bass: bigger bottom and more snarl. The Ashdown is like a Thunderbird, very snarly and present but with a solid low end.

    What strings are being used on the bass?

    • @krismichalsky
      @krismichalsky 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +67Stu Bass strings, duh....

    • @67Stu
      @67Stu 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wow, that was an intelligent answer.
      What maker? Round? Flat? Steel? Nickel?

    • @krismichalsky
      @krismichalsky 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +67Stu Wasn't meant to be an intelligent answer, stu.... And for them to know exactly what strings are on that bass is a long shot genius. I guarantee you that if walked into any music store and grabbed a bass off the wall, started playing it, and then asked, what strings are on this bass, the guy is going to make a guess and tell you anything off the top of his head. And more than likely he will probably say round nickel, like most guys play anyhow.... And does is really matter what strings are on the bass? Is this guy some how achieving a tone that you like? Strings will make a slight difference but not like an amp will. Use what you like to use and be done with it. Get a coated string, they last longer.

    • @67Stu
      @67Stu 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually, most guys use nickel-plated steel or steel round-wound strings. You are correct in saying that strings do not contribute to the tone as much as an amp will, but they do make a difference none-the-less.Especially between round and flat (or wire and tape).
      For the record, I happen to be a vintage string collector.
      No, it is not "a long shot genius." Simply ask the person who owns the bass, the shop it's in, or check with the manufacturer. If you don't know or don't care, that's fine, but then say so instead instead of being a smart-ass pompous prick.

    Dear Mr. or Mrs.
    Hello, I am your customer in South Korea, who purchased the Ashdown vacuum-tube Amplifier BTA400 in October, 2015.
    Actually there is a problem with this Amplifier, and that is the reason I write this mail to you directly - for I want a clear answer with the solution about this.
    Firstly, the Amplifier that I'm using now is connected with the woofer of the REAL cooperation (which is made in Japan), and expectively connected with the main system speaker.
    When there is nothing wrong with the woofer, I mainly use the one for playing, for it has gorgeous base sound. While I use it, I set the main system stay almost silent instead.
    I usually have warmed-up for about 5~10 minutes before I use it.
    However, this amplifier haven't been activated since somedays ago, Even though I had warm-up with this for 5~10minutes as usual.
    At first, I just thought it needs more time to be fully warmed-up, so I have tried having warm-up for 30minutes, sometimes for 1 hour.
    Oddly to say, After the warm-up, occasionally this Amplifier worked well, and sometimes it didn't worked at all.
    When the woofer doesn't work, I have used the main speaker instead with the higher volume, and played the music with the sound coming from the main speaker. Sometimes when I use the main speaker when the woofer doesn't work, It made an interfering sound and the sound blasted from the woofer.
    When the woofer is activated in sudden like this during the play, the main speaker make a terrible blasting sound.
    For this kind of interference could induce serious problems with the main-system, It is desperate for me to find a resolution about this.
    Until now, I have suspected several possible-causes of this problem:
    1. After the purchase of the Amplifier, there was no Bios setting. modification.
    2. When I plat the base guitar with it, I occasionally played it to the extend that exceeds the 'Red, warning point' which was mentioned in the manual - it said "keep out! do no set any tube this high". For I bought this vacuum amplifier through the recommendation, I have no basic informations about it at all. Actually there are only few experts about it in here, South Korea, so I needed an direct contact with you.
    Here are my question after all :
    1. What could be possible causes of this problem?
    2. And what could be the proper solution?
    3. Although I'm not an expert with these machines, It is also not preferable for me to believe the experts in Korea, about the repairmen of base guitar Amplifier and Vacuum-tube. So actually I intend to fix it on my own, and I want to ask you "How I can repair it safely and properly by myself.”
    It's very desperate for me to handle this problem, And It would be grateful of you to give me a help.
    Thank you.
