The most pirate painting session on the tubes...

I love how you don't villainize charcoal/graphite transfers. Your confidence had me try it out, and I found my painting techniques improve SO much faster, because I wasn't so focused on the drawing! My colors are much more vivid, and my light and dark families highly contrasted.

    Yes!
Finally a video about composition and how much thought a good painter like you puts into his work before even starting to take a brush in his hands. As you said, those are things that a regular instagram or youtube user wouldn't suspect.
What about Blade Runner by Ridley Scott for your next movie scene? I figured you might like the movie.
Anyways, have a nice day and keep up the amazing work!

try a scene from the dark Knight, it'll be interesting seeing you work with a lot of black colour.

More artist should lok at movies for studies. The old Technicolor movies are perfect for composition and color studies. There is a scene in the movie Overlord i have been wanting to do for a while.

Hi Alpay, i’d love to see you paint an iconic sci fi scene from 2001 A Space Odyssey. Particularly, how to make a deep black ‘space universe’ look realistic with stars, and the Orion spaceship in the foreground. I’ve always been amazed at how Chris Foss, Peter Elison, and Chris Moore were able to produce such breathtakingly detailed, yet realistic images. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this medium. I know some of these artists used airbrush techniques, but many used oils and acrylics.

i just make a lot of sketches for a paint, most of the time i just cut and mix parts of my sketches into something more well composed... a hand in a diferent position, a diferent shape for a machinery can be the difference between "an ok painting" and a "breathtaking icon"

  • @artbypalehorse

Awesome video I do similar work in acrylics. I definitely would like to see more movie artwork. I myself have begun to challenge myself with getting out of my comfort zone. By choosing my reference in areas that I may lack experience. For example I haven’t ever painted a neon color image and didn’t have special colors in the tube. So I worked it out and ended up with a real awesome painting that gave me a lesson in trusting in myself and my experience to overcome unknown things.
