    I like the low end of them 4 blade props on outboard motors and they also fly better then a 3 blade over the shallow waters

    I miss my 40hp 2 stroke. My 4 stroke is a dog. Here in California they won’t let you use them on most lakes anymore.

    I just saw this vid or I would have hooked you up sooner. The "right propeller" is the prop that allows you to attain 5,500rpm's,trimmed up, wide open. That engine (Yamaha 3 cylinder 2 stroke}, makes it's horsepower at 5,500 rpm. If you have too much pitch, you won't be getting 40hp. 3 or 4 blade isn't critical in your application. It very seldom is.

      the carbs also have to be retuned when you prop swap.

      maybe the idle mixture would need tweeked, but, the standard jetting is what allows the engine to produce it's rated horsepower. stock engines just need to be propped for the application. big horsepower on little boat, high pitch,low hp on big boat,low pitch. if you use the correct prop for the combo you will reach the rpm's that the engine is rated at. compende? I have 32 years on marine engines of all makes and I have my a&p licences. I repair and maintain aircraft too.

    how to get a smooth gear shift on a Yamaha 40 outboard motor 2stroke

    • @keje45
      @keje45 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Never shift your cable operated outboard slow. When you shift it move the control lever briskly. If you shift slowly you will hear the clutch dog hammering the gear face. This will leave metal chips in your gearcase. Not good. Make sure your shift cable is free.

      @Tony Barber no way that motor is 100:1 it could be ? but I wouldnt. 100:1 is newer motors with metered oil injection. Running synthetic oil made for 100:1 use. And they only do it for EPA Reasons. Thats only an ounce and half per gallon. Not much lube at all. I'd run 50:1 and be happy with a touch of smoke

      Weighton a boat isn't alway bad. Makes them ride smoother. How slow can you go and still stay up on plane? I have a 30hp mariner (yamaha built) but i can't find a 10 pitch 4blade to try on it. Im running a 3 blade 12 pitch and its ok but I want to sacrifice some top end for staying on plane at a lower speed. I have a similar boat to the one in the video. I get about 30mph wide open. And cruise nice between 18 and 22. Falls off plane about 14mph maybe 16. Idk depends on water condotions.
      But I would like the boat to have a better attitude at lower speed that way i can.cruise. and sip fuel

    • @RustyShakleford1
      @RustyShakleford1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jerk Ass I don’t think you’ll be on plane at less than 14 mph tbh I think 12mph might be the lowest depending on hull and weight

  • @srdjan272able

    3 or 4 blade is a same. If you use 4 blade and 14 pitch, try to use 3 blade and 15 pitch, they will be same, tottaly same performace. The rule is to go down to 1 pitch down with 4 blade propp if you use 3 blade propp. Then, they will be indentical.

    • @MrMijnaccount1
      @MrMijnaccount1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think so, maybe the rpm's wil be the same but with a 4-blade you will give you better holeshot, more bow lift, the boat will stay at plane with lower speeds/rpm's and a little less mph compared to the 3-blade. Because you have more blade surface you'll have more 'grip' in the water. With the 3-blade you will have more top speed because of the higher pitch you can run without dropping to much rpm's. So when you have the best 3-blade prop for your boat/motor combination and you switch to the optimal 4-blade you will definitly feel the difference. When you have just some 3-blade prop on the motor and you switch to some 4-blade prop and you're using your rule then it's possible you can't tell the diffence.

  • @alphacapo
    @alphacapo 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you tuck the motor in another hole the prop should bite better in turns and on holeshot. You will lose about 2mph on top end tho
