Introducing The Gorilla Troop From The Chessington Zoo

- Today a new gorilla troop series starts. The Chessington World of Adventure gorillas. Silverback Damisi has quite a big family. Shani is the oldest of the Gorillas and is easily recognized because she always holds one hand to her ear. The keepers told me that this wasn't because of earache but because she thought she was still holding her blanket for comfort. She lost her mum at an early age due to an Anaplastic malignant tumour of the spleen and had to be hand raised. Although she stopped taking a blanket she always kept her hand to her ear. Many did say she looked like she was on the phone.
Gorilla Asili is playing with the barrel. Next up mum Shanga and her baby Aarde on her back. Lots more of Aarde in the series.
Then you've got Mbula, Mwana, Kuanza and Kipande.
Silverback Gorilla DAMISI was born on April 14th 1997 father of Mbula, M'wana, Kuanza, Kipande and Aarde.
Gorilla Shani born on February 10th 1990 mother of Buu, Shanga and Kumi
Gorilla Asili was born on July 26th 1991 to mother of Mjukuu, Kumili and M'wana.
Gorilla Shanga was born on March 29th 2001 mother of Kuanza, Kipande and Aarde.
Gorilla Mbula (M) born on the March 10th 2009
Gorilla Mwana (M) was born on February 23rd 2012
Gorilla Kuanza (F) was born on July 16th 2012
Gorilla baby Aaarde (M) was born on April 24th 2022
Gorilla Kipande (F) was born on April 19th 2018

Yes I was quite surprised and angry with myself that I haven't visited before. As it is mainly a theme park and I'm at that age where I really don't fancy going on rides anymore, it never really crossed my mind. Then I found out during their closing season, the zoo part is open on weekends. So I took the chance.

Komomo (Haoko daughter) puts her hand on her ear and a female gorilla at dallas zoo does the same thing
That makes three now! Shani,Megan and Komomo. It seems as if Komomo does it less now that she’s carrying for baby Su. But Megan will cradle both ears sometimes!😊

Yes they seem to tolerate each other. Maybe because Mbua is neutered.

They all have a very intelligent look in their eyes- like they understand more than we know about them. ❤
I think for the younger ones being in captivity isn’t so bad, but for the older ones- they look bored 🥱😕
Will you ever film the Orangutans at Chester Zoo or Gorillas at ZSL London?
Chester zoo Orangutans: th-cam.com/play/PLXC1aShJSBiX7jXZQUQYMXoeND_Yg9sUM.html and very likley to get more footage. I'm due a visit to Chester zoo. I would love to visit ZSL London, but it's actually easier/cheaper going abroad then to go to London, but you'll never know if I get the chance I will do it.
