Well alright then! I got a couple of videos planed (Don't worry they're gonna be fun.), but after that, I'll do a Hollow Knight Video! Probably gonna be a thing on the Trial of Fools some time early next month! Then sometime after that I might do some Grimm Troup!
Yeah! I looked them up trying to figure out exactly how many and I saw, in their "The Team" part of their website there were only two people listed. I mostly just assumed there had to be more and didn't want to be wrong.
@Javione Woods well just because they're different genres of games doesn't at all mean they can't be compared, wanna know why? Because unlike *most* any game, both of these games have painstakingly hand-drawn animations for EVERYTHING in them, aside from particles/effects (some effects are also hand-drawn though), so it is absolutely fair to compare them, considering almost NO games today (or really ever) were completely hand-drawn in the same fashion.
@Javione Woods Cuphead is a great *looking* game yes, but that does not equate to *great game* overall. Hollow Knight however is not only hand-drawn like Cuphead, and it is also a great looking game, but more importantly it's an AMAZING game overall, so Cuphead really doesn't compare whatsoever to what Hollow Knight is.

its a 10/10 in my opinion but all ign like reviewers are 8/10 to 9.4/10 yet fortnight is an instant 9.7? im mean fortnight isn't bad but its not that good
I played the first hour and it seemed very basic and limited. Looks can be deceiving though, and I quickly found it is actually remarkably deep in a number of ways. I'm still finding out more about it and frankly I'm amazed at just how incredible it is.
This game... Its just... on another level. Every single piece falls into place. The combat, the music, the lore, the atmpsphere... My friends think I'm annoying because I just cant stop talking about Hollow Knight! Its one of the best *things* I have ever experienced. Theres no words to describe the magnificence of this piece of art.

PREACH. It's my favorite game of 2017 for all the same reasons as well. The craziest thing? 2017 is a god tier gaming year. And this little indie game came in and blew me away like no other. It's amazing.
Yes. Recently a new edition of the game has came out on ps4. It's the "Voidheart edition" and it includes the base game plus all the additional contents that have came out until now.
@@jasondp3546 it's better on Switch, unless you have a solid 2 hours or so to sink every time you play the game... It's a metroidvania so of course you've got a lot of exploring to do... I like that I can take it with me and play for 20-30 mins and sleep mode my Switch and just pick right back up where I left off a couple hours later for another half hour or something.... It's way convenient.
hollow knight is probably my favorite game ive ever played. im absolutely the worst at platformers but ive the course of playing ive gotten so much better!! and man the atmosphere in this game is ridiculous!!!

In addition to being all up in any Hollow Knight content, I'm starting to recognize so many people in the comments as well; especially after I started making content of my own. So far, the community is really consistent and stable!
This game getting overshadowed is one of the biggest travesties in gaming. I’m not a supporter of IGN, but it’s worth noting that they didn’t even review it. That baffles me to this day, how a game so amazing can just be ignored.

It's really shocking that your videos don't get more attention. All your video's I've seen look very professional and are honestly funny. Your last hollowknight video poped up on my recommended list, and liking it so much I wacthed like 10 more of your videos. When I finally when to subscribe thinking your vids would be in the 100's of thousands of subscribers I was taken back; 300 subs?!?! It's criminal how small that is. Your videos are still consistently great, and I hope you keep making content.

I'm with you and, to quote Myla, "It's one of my f-f-favourites!" Along with Celeste. Both games are surprisingly similar, yet also vastly different. I'd place Ori and the Blind Forest up there too.
8:32 Except the fletcher style isn't necessarily better looking, it's just a different style. I never liked that style, and hollow knight looks better to me.
I was more talking about the amount of work that they put into all of the animations, not to mention making the models for rotoscoping the backgrounds, using the exact same techniques Max Fletcher used which take a stupid amount of time and hard work.
Ahh that' s a very good point I hadn't thought about. Anyway, I'm really glad to see you giving Hollow Knight the love it deserves. I've seen a lot of youtubers obsessing over the AAA publishers and basically just dismissing great indie games like this. I enjoy seeing EA take a hit as much as the next guy, but if you only ignore the people who are doing things right, then you're just going to keep getting bad games.
I just watched this video and the flower one, and I am absoloutely astounded that you only have around 400 subs, I mean with this type of quality in your video I automatically thought you were in the 100.000's department, so all in all, keep up the amazing work my dude.

People say they're sad because 2017 (the great year of games) is over. A year is just a title we give 365 days. There's no reason for the holy times of games to end. cmon my boys lets keep this up for another decade
After having played this game, I've been seeking so many reviews and comments to see if anybody else agrees with my enthusiasm for this game-- it's become my favorite. Alas, the world is silent and this game is just another "good indie game..."
Yeah, It does fall into that hugely broad category doesn't it. All the Shantae games fall into that too, and you look at the massive difference between these to and it's a little sad that this game doesn't get put in this big category of "Oh my god it's incredible" indi games
AristotleXraven Don’t know if you see this, but I think I know. Cuphead was one of the few Xbox exclusive, and Hollow Knight came out between Horizon Zero Dawn and Breath of the Wild, so it got painfully buried
Aaaaand this is all made better knowing that this "Company" is two guys. Ari Gibson and William Pellen. Plus the composer, Christopher Larkin - but that's, well, contractual work, he's not actually part of Team Cherry. Speaking of composition, that transition you did between City of Tears and the Soul Master's theme? Brilliant! It really outlines both the extremes of the atmosphere Larkin managed to create, but also his smart use of leitmotifs.
Oh yeah, the use of leitmotifs in this game are wonderful! the title song can be heard everywhere in the game. There's a bit in (one of the) the ending cut scene where the title song starts out as a quiet piano and then builds with the fuckin' violins and the chimes. The music in this game is beautiful!
It's really nice to see people express their geniuine love for Hollow Knight.It's my favourite game of 2017 too, it just shines in every aspect. I'm hoping your channel gets way bigger, because this video is absolutely fantastic!
Honestly I didn't know about this game and didn't play it even when my brother got it however after see the Grimm Troupe DLC; I got interested and decided to play it..... I wished I played it earlier and honestly is a game that I actually want to 100%. Most games I played; I never was interested in the sidequests / collectible (in fact Kirby Planet Robobot is the only game I have 100% on) because I just felt like it wasn't worth it. Meanwhile this game is just so much fun especially exploring the world.

It is a map made for some of the backers of the game's kickstarter. You can find it on the Hollow Knight wiki in the Areas section in glorious 4k resolution.
I really cannot compare the two, I like both for completely different reason. Ori's Music was mindblowing during epic encounters and moments, and the fairy-taleish look and story brought back so many childhood memories. Meanwhile HOllow Knight was this baddas game where the main antagonist is the LIGHT side and the DARK side is merely a tool summoned to defeat it! Also NO REUSED ENEMIES!
I like both, hollow knight is a way better than Ori, it has everything that cativate the player passionates for the gameplay, for the music, for the strategy, the rewards, this game has an excellent story same as Ori, but Hollow Knight is GODLIKE I 100% loved it than any Indie game!
I still think Ori has the best soundtrack than Hollow knight cause it is much much longer of peaceful music, but the rest Hollow Knight in a blink of an eye!
Surprised you didn't throw the best song: the rise from the abyss. That whole scene literally had my jaw on the floor, in stunned silence, and when it was over I just sat there, in the dark, for 2 minutes, contemplating thr meaning of life. What an amazing game

Favorite game of 2017. And considering how good 2017 was for gaming, that's saying a lot. I've bought the game three times just because I felt they deserved way more than $15.
Wonderful analysis of such a great, great game. Honestly, this is probably one of my favorite games of all time. The design, the art, the music, the gameplay, the story, the lore.... all wrapped up with a silken bow of free DLC. I'm so absolutely excited to buy this game on Switch just to support Team Cherry, not to mention anticipating the Hornet DLC and the DLC on another character (since they hit that stretch goal on the game's Kickstarter). This is one of the few games that I've actually decided to go for 100% achievements in, since the gameplay is interesting and varied even then.
My favourite game of the year also, and favourite music in a game in years too. Eagerly awaiting for any new dlcs to come. And to you sir top video, editing and writing were very professional. Congratulations :)
See, that's another thing I love: There were so many characters in this game that I was genuinely interested in, wanting to learn more about them and their stories (and the game even provided exactly that with the dream nail) to the point that I wanted to hear the stories on bosses. What other game actually makes you care for a dung beetle that swims in shit because they are genuinely so interesting?
This was my game of the year for how dense and engrossing the entire experience was. Fantastic music, fantastic world design, a good story, challenging but fair, a great and consistent art style, the ease and fun of exploration (when you get all the tools). It was really a masterpiece.
We only started up recently, but the more subs we get the faster we get subs... or something... I don't know how youtubes algorithm works. But that's okay fucking _nobody_ does!
Love this game sooooo much but more so, wanted to say really enjoy your channel man. Really got into this game after putting 33 hours over the past few days and getting the first ending. Going for 100% and couldn't agree more with the vid. Got this in my recommended after looking up some guide stuff towards my 100%. But cheers man, I hope you blow up more. I'm just so dumfounded by how great this game is still, especially coming from someone that hasn't really ventured much into the metroidvania genre.

Thanks for the recommendations. I've really liked Dead Cells and similarly, Rogue Legacy was also pretty good. I believe I have one of the Shantae games from a bundle I bought long ago but I feel as if Hollow Knight has treated me too well to appreciate other games. Nonetheless, I'll definitely try others once I get 106% completion and appreciate the reply man.
If all games were of this quality, we wouldn't need many games released each year. Damn, this game is good. It was unfortunately drowned in a wave of good games though, so it hasn't gotten the attention it truly deserves. One thing I love about the game is that it has some pretty damn creepy moments. I'm not a fan of most horror games, not because I dislike horror, but because besides horror, the games are often complete garbage. Meanwhile, a game like Half-Life 2 has you grabbed by the balls in some parts of the game, despite not being a horror game. Besides that, the game is great, and while it has odd physics that you can abuse to basically run on water and walls, and jump infinitely on things you hold, it's just really solid. What I mean is that the framework is simply good, and horror elements are secondary. Horror is often just cheap thrills. It's better to add horror into a game rather than making a horror game. Oh, and horror movies are garbage, I don't care what you say, I fall asleep like a baby to them.
I first found this game from a comment on an article about Shovel Knight somewhere, and it's easily become my favourite game of all time. I currently have over 200 hours of playtime and the only thing I regret is that I accidentally got some spoilers for the story beforehand (damn you, TvTropes!). It really is unlucky that it kind of went unnoticed what with all the other games that came out in 2017, but it does add to the feeling knowing that I was lucky enough to find out about it relatively close to its release.

This game makes me want to spend time on it. And out of all things to urge the player forward it was the story which a lot of times is shadowed in the industry. Maybe that's why even compared to the other games that I'm playing like Breath of the Wild or even Super Mario Odyssey I actually want to go back to Hollow Knight more then those two (Probably just personal taste). I'm so glad I listened to all the talk online about this game because it's been a long time since I enjoyed every step of the way.
Idk, I guess it's my personal taste too then, because as much as I enjoyed BotW my first play through on Wii U (only like 30 hours maybe) and I've beaten SMO main story, and need to finish everything else now, Hollow Knight is the only one *truly* keeping my attention currently, and it sucks me right into the world and before I know it my Switch is needing recharged because I've just sat and played for hours lol... I love both BotW and Odyssey don't get me wrong, even Spla2oon and MK8D and DKCTF as well, but Hollow Knight is the one that kinda wins GOAT for me... It's so intriguing and I always want to see the next area, figure out the next challenge to get out of say Deepnest, it doesn't matter how many times the boss is killing me, I will persevere and continue to move forward because I need to see what's next lol.
It's easily my second favorite track in the game (first, being the final boss fight because of how it moves from incredibly intense to deeply tragic) I love that sense of calm, especially the mix that sounds like it's coming from an old radio, like on the tram on in Queens Gardens!
When you finnally beat the soul master then see this video and see the map and then look at your map you have so far "welp ima be here awhile" great video btw
I deliberately put off getting this on PC because I heard/hoped it would come to switch and waiting, patiently, then it hit in E3 there and was the best news of the show for me, within 5 mins of hearing, I was playing it.. 30+ hours later, I wish I'd got it on PC, I absolutely would have double dipped and played through it again, outstanding game!
They must have used magic to make this game because I felt the exact same way you described how you felt. You can’t stop playing the game and you always want more of it. It truly is one of the best games I’ve ever played

finishing up my Steel Souls run and my 5hr speed run...this game is so F'ing amazing. It reminded me that not all of gaming is shallow and empty; so dense and so beautiful
Yup! Just like any art form, you may need to push aside some of the surface dust to find the really good stuff, but when you find it, you'll be happy you took the time to look!
After finding isma's tear I got more confident and found ways to get through the pools in green path without actually falling in the pools maybe once or twice. Now I'm just jumping around the upper levels like I'm some kind of bad ass.

Same. It took me 48+ hours to complete 100% include dlcs because I felt so left out after finishing the final true boss and it makes me want to explore the full content of the game. In this year I also finished ori and cuphead but those does not really motivate me that much. What I love the most is the sad and dark atmosphere of the game and how they tell you the story by you playing through and explore it but not they tell you with a bag of plots. Journalist putting soul-like tag in every single game is funny to me, but hollow knight, really remains me the great time I had in dark soul series

After having played this game, I've been seeking so many reviews and comments to see if anybody else agrees with my enthusiasm for this game-- it's become my favorite.

Yeah, It does fall into that hugely broad category doesn't it. All the Shantae games fall into that too, and you look at the massive difference between these to and it's a little sad that this game doesn't get put in this big category of "Oh my god it's incredible" indi games

AristotleXraven Don’t know if you see this, but I think I know. Cuphead was one of the few Xbox exclusive, and Hollow Knight came out between Horizon Zero Dawn and Breath of the Wild, so it got painfully buried

Aaaaand this is all made better knowing that this "Company" is two guys. Ari Gibson and William Pellen. Plus the composer, Christopher Larkin - but that's, well, contractual work, he's not actually part of Team Cherry. Speaking of composition, that transition you did between City of Tears and the Soul Master's theme? Brilliant! It really outlines both the extremes of the atmosphere Larkin managed to create, but also his smart use of leitmotifs.
Oh yeah, the use of leitmotifs in this game are wonderful! the title song can be heard everywhere in the game. There's a bit in (one of the) the ending cut scene where the title song starts out as a quiet piano and then builds with the fuckin' violins and the chimes. The music in this game is beautiful!

Honestly I didn't know about this game and didn't play it even when my brother got it however after see the Grimm Troupe DLC; I got interested and decided to play it.....
I wished I played it earlier and honestly is a game that I actually want to 100%.
Most games I played; I never was interested in the sidequests / collectible (in fact Kirby Planet Robobot is the only game I have 100% on) because I just felt like it wasn't worth it. Meanwhile this game is just so much fun especially exploring the world.

I really cannot compare the two, I like both for completely different reason. Ori's Music was mindblowing during epic encounters and moments, and the fairy-taleish look and story brought back so many childhood memories.
Meanwhile HOllow Knight was this baddas game where the main antagonist is the LIGHT side and the DARK side is merely a tool summoned to defeat it! Also NO REUSED ENEMIES!
I like both, hollow knight is a way better than Ori, it has everything that cativate the player passionates for the gameplay, for the music, for the strategy, the rewards, this game has an excellent story same as Ori, but Hollow Knight is GODLIKE I 100% loved it than any Indie game!
I still think Ori has the best soundtrack than Hollow knight cause it is much much longer of peaceful music, but the rest Hollow Knight in a blink of an eye!

Wonderful analysis of such a great, great game. Honestly, this is probably one of my favorite games of all time. The design, the art, the music, the gameplay, the story, the lore.... all wrapped up with a silken bow of free DLC. I'm so absolutely excited to buy this game on Switch just to support Team Cherry, not to mention anticipating the Hornet DLC and the DLC on another character (since they hit that stretch goal on the game's Kickstarter). This is one of the few games that I've actually decided to go for 100% achievements in, since the gameplay is interesting and varied even then.
My favourite game of the year also, and favourite music in a game in years too. Eagerly awaiting for any new dlcs to come. And to you sir top video, editing and writing were very professional. Congratulations :)

See, that's another thing I love: There were so many characters in this game that I was genuinely interested in, wanting to learn more about them and their stories (and the game even provided exactly that with the dream nail) to the point that I wanted to hear the stories on bosses.

This was my game of the year for how dense and engrossing the entire experience was. Fantastic music, fantastic world design, a good story, challenging but fair, a great and consistent art style, the ease and fun of exploration (when you get all the tools). It was really a masterpiece.

Love this game sooooo much but more so, wanted to say really enjoy your channel man. Really got into this game after putting 33 hours over the past few days and getting the first ending. Going for 100% and couldn't agree more with the vid. Got this in my recommended after looking up some guide stuff towards my 100%. But cheers man, I hope you blow up more. I'm just so dumfounded by how great this game is still, especially coming from someone that hasn't really ventured much into the metroidvania genre.

Thanks for the recommendations. I've really liked Dead Cells and similarly, Rogue Legacy was also pretty good. I believe I have one of the Shantae games from a bundle I bought long ago but I feel as if Hollow Knight has treated me too well to appreciate other games. Nonetheless, I'll definitely try others once I get 106% completion and appreciate the reply man.
If all games were of this quality, we wouldn't need many games released each year. Damn, this game is good. It was unfortunately drowned in a wave of good games though, so it hasn't gotten the attention it truly deserves.
One thing I love about the game is that it has some pretty damn creepy moments. I'm not a fan of most horror games, not because I dislike horror, but because besides horror, the games are often complete garbage. Meanwhile, a game like Half-Life 2 has you grabbed by the balls in some parts of the game, despite not being a horror game. Besides that, the game is great, and while it has odd physics that you can abuse to basically run on water and walls, and jump infinitely on things you hold, it's just really solid.
What I mean is that the framework is simply good, and horror elements are secondary. Horror is often just cheap thrills. It's better to add horror into a game rather than making a horror game.
Oh, and horror movies are garbage, I don't care what you say, I fall asleep like a baby to them.
I first found this game from a comment on an article about Shovel Knight somewhere, and it's easily become my favourite game of all time. I currently have over 200 hours of playtime and the only thing I regret is that I accidentally got some spoilers for the story beforehand (damn you, TvTropes!). It really is unlucky that it kind of went unnoticed what with all the other games that came out in 2017, but it does add to the feeling knowing that I was lucky enough to find out about it relatively close to its release.

This game makes me want to spend time on it. And out of all things to urge the player forward it was the story which a lot of times is shadowed in the industry.
Maybe that's why even compared to the other games that I'm playing like Breath of the Wild or even Super Mario Odyssey I actually want to go back to Hollow Knight more then those two (Probably just personal taste). I'm so glad I listened to all the talk online about this game because it's been a long time since I enjoyed every step of the way.
Idk, I guess it's my personal taste too then, because as much as I enjoyed BotW my first play through on Wii U (only like 30 hours maybe) and I've beaten SMO main story, and need to finish everything else now, Hollow Knight is the only one *truly* keeping my attention currently, and it sucks me right into the world and before I know it my Switch is needing recharged because I've just sat and played for hours lol... I love both BotW and Odyssey don't get me wrong, even Spla2oon and MK8D and DKCTF as well, but Hollow Knight is the one that kinda wins GOAT for me... It's so intriguing and I always want to see the next area, figure out the next challenge to get out of say Deepnest, it doesn't matter how many times the boss is killing me, I will persevere and continue to move forward because I need to see what's next lol.
This is precisely how I felt about this game, so glad someone shares the same emotions to it as I do.

God, I love the bench song, it let's you know you're safe (except that one in deepnest)
It's easily my second favorite track in the game (first, being the final boss fight because of how it moves from incredibly intense to deeply tragic) I love that sense of calm, especially the mix that sounds like it's coming from an old radio, like on the tram on in Queens Gardens!

I deliberately put off getting this on PC because I heard/hoped it would come to switch and waiting, patiently, then it hit in E3 there and was the best news of the show for me, within 5 mins of hearing, I was playing it.. 30+ hours later, I wish I'd got it on PC, I absolutely would have double dipped and played through it again, outstanding game!

Yup! Just like any art form, you may need to push aside some of the surface dust to find the really good stuff, but when you find it, you'll be happy you took the time to look!
After finding isma's tear I got more confident and found ways to get through the pools in green path without actually falling in the pools maybe once or twice. Now I'm just jumping around the upper levels like I'm some kind of bad ass.

It truly is a masterpiece, better than anyone could expect.

Same. It took me 48+ hours to complete 100% include dlcs because I felt so left out after finishing the final true boss and it makes me want to explore the full content of the game. In this year I also finished ori and cuphead but those does not really motivate me that much.
What I love the most is the sad and dark atmosphere of the game and how they tell you the story by you playing through and explore it but not they tell you with a bag of plots. Journalist putting soul-like tag in every single game is funny to me, but hollow knight, really remains me the great time I had in dark soul series
