Hi my dear Nina ❤️ These are fast growers, too bad their flowers are so short lived but they are very satisfying. I almost fainted when I saw so many buds starting 😄 and I had much pleasure watching them grow for weeks, getting fatter and fatter. I have other species that are Queens of the night but although they have gotten huge, still no blooms. I need to find them a more sunnier place as they need more direct sun. Very comprehensive care on the Queen of the Night. I love how you captured the time lapse on the flowers, too. You did a great job making it bloom so much flowers! This made me think, are all night blooming cacti white? Seem like all that I know are colored white. 😉
Hi Ana, I hope you are fully recovered although I know hard it is the last bit... Yes, all night bloomers are white or very close to white, best color to reflect the moonlight and therefore atract polinators. I find that this one has a very similar scent to Echinopsis subdenudata. Oh the time lapses always 😌 calms me! We have them growing wild in Sri Lanka. Found in the most unexpected paces like roofs, roadside trees and abandoned houses / buildings as they can take over any place. Do you know these are used for worship of Lord Buddha? The fragrance though is quite overwhelming for me Fernanda 🤩
They must be quite a sight growing and blooming in the wild. But then again, nature blesses us with such beauty in many ways. I happen to enjoy this scent but I quite understand you. Hi Teresa ❤️ I have noticed that 90 per cent of the time one healthy mature plant does not bloom that is because she is not getting enough light even if they grow lush. I don't know how you are growing yours but maybe it will help if you give it some hours of direct sun, early morning or late afternoon, getting the plant used to sun light gradually not to burn. Mine got used to direct sun for most part of the day. Some leaves even got a bit crusted. However I must point out that my summers are not really hot although the sun is strong. I hope this helps. WOW!!!! Those are stunning. I used to have a Selenicereus grandiflorus, which is another queen of the night cactus, as a child/teenager but when I moved out my parents got rid of it. I think it pricked my mom really badly so she trashed it haha.
In fact I have others, including Selenicereus grandiflorus but they never bloomed. They are huge but no blooms so far. I have to.put my thinking cap on and find them a place with more sun, it is time they earn their keep. Too large for you are the moment, right? Would you like a cutting of a hybrid epiphyllum, one of those that do not grow giant?

@@MattbyNature Yes, maybe they need more time to mature. I have have had them for 3 years already. The Selenicereus is not that big yet but it will grow longer stems. But all of them are getting huge. My hondurensis has stems that are over 1 mt long... They also grow wide, not easy to accomodate 😁They are not difficult to grow, just water and give them good light and let them grow 🤣
@@FernandaNascimentoOrchids I remember seeing on at a botanical garden that was twice as tall as me with very dense growths. Luckily, you can maintain them outside!

Yes, they bloom once a year. The flowers are so short lived but as I get several flowers and they do not bloom all at the same time, I get flowers for a couple of weeks. Have a wonderful weekend 🌷😍❤️
Hi !!! I do not fertilize much, usually I use slow release fertilizer for cactus. And I water everytime the substrate is getting dry. Which is about once a week and rarely during winter 💖💖💖

Hi again!!! I Iive in Portugal on the west coast 1 hour north of Lisbon. In my particular area the climate is mild with cool summers and not getting to freezing in winter. Having enough light is essential to make it bloom. My plant was not blooming until I stressed it out a little bit by giving as high light as it could get without burning. I can get away with giving it direct sun during the afternoon because I don't get high temperatures where I live and I got the plant used to it, gradually. This plant likes to have the substrate moist but not soggy during growing period. Do not let it dry out completely but water less during the cold of winter as they don't like wet feet when they are cold. I give it slow release fertilizer in spring and that is all. They like some feed but not too much. If you give it regular fertilizer, use it at half strengh and only during spring and summer. This plant comes from tropical Rain forests where it grows epiphytically on tree trunks. Although growing differently from desert cactus, it is still a cactus. So, try to give it more light without letting it scorched. Morning sun is better and safer if you can give it to the plant ❤️❤️❤️

Having enough light is essential to make it bloom. My plant was not blooming until I stressed it out a little bit by giving as high light as it could get without burning. I can get away with giving it direct sun during the afternoon because I don't get high temperatures where I live and I got the plant used to it, gradually. This plant likes to have the substrate moist but not soggy during growing period. Do not let it dry out completely but water less during the cold of winter as they don't like wet feet when they are cold. I give it slow release fertilizer in spring and that is all. They like some feed but not too much. If you give it regular fertilizer, use it at half strengh and only during spring and summer. This plant comes from tropical Rain forests where it grows epiphytically on tree trunks. Although growing differently from desert cactus, it is still a cactus. So, try to give it more light without letting it scorched. Morning sun is better and safer if you can give it to the plant ❤️❤️❤️
