I actually love that this guy spends mosy of the final fight getting his ass kicked. He isn't dangerous because he is untouchable, he's dangerous because he won't give up. And as the guy who didn't have the physical gifts that others had growing up, I appreciate seeing that in a hero

The film is Finnish and tells about the word SISU, what is SISU is persistent, unrelenting willpower, perseverance, indomitability. The concept is part of Finnish national identity

That is so over to top movie, which have made so well in all aspects. Kind of ticks in same box with Tarantino, Sergio Leone, Aki Kaurismäki and all the Rambo movies. Good fun to watch.

The story told in Sisu has common threads in the mythological tales in Finland. Two similarly vengeful characters would be Kullervo and Ilmarinen.
Another northern European story (Germanic) of tragedy and revenge is that of Weyland the Smith.
Weyland is particularly vicious. When he's captured and made a slave, the king orders him to make jewelry. Weyland kills the king's two young sons and turns their skulls into goblets which he presents to the king as the "gifts" he was ordered to create.

Loved this movie. I think it could have been more than 6.9, like 7.5 at least.
    Thanks for the reaction.

Here in Finland we had a guy who had over 500 confirmed kills during the winter war. In real life. Check out Simo Häyhä :)
    Sisu is an awesome movie!

@@cinemamosaic about the movie Sisu. It is not just an action movie, all though does good for that. It is also about how 'legends are born' aka by re-telling the story which always will grow more and more amazing. Sure there were soldiers during WWII like Simo Häyhä, A. Koivunen or Lauri Törni aka Lary Thorne (cause he fought first for Finland, the Germany, and eventually became US green beret - the later one, that is. But anyhow, Sisu is obviously movie to check your brain with the coat at the entry - but a top of being cool action, it does make a kind of 're-telling of a legend in building up the legend' -kind of a note to it and thus can be interpreted to have bit deeper traits to it than only action.

Simo, the White Death. He chewed snow to mask his breath while sniping. Kills in the multi-hundreds. Refused to use a scope. The Finns can be very bad-ass, hence this movie.

Sisu is a word that is hard to define, yet defines a nation (Finland). I guess balls/guts/strength/fearlessness. Some combination of those. Our dear brothers in the east (I am a Swede)

@@cinemamosaicif you want to see other finnish movies, I would suggest for example Rare exports (a dark Christmas movie from the same director as this one), Hevi reissu/Heavy trip (comedy) and Tuntematon sotilas / Unknown soldier 2017 (war movie)

The comment that he needs the gold for something is probably true. It is in Finn culture that if you promise something, you deliver. Come hell or high water.

Just to clarify, I am proud of the Finnish soldiers of that time, who even sacrificed their lives for my country. There are still some of them alive, but they are not as bitter as many others, and this also includes those who, unfortunately, do not understand anything about patriotism.

A horrendous watch. It plays like a cartoon, yet tries to take itself seriously. I dunno, man. I can't understand the positivity around this movie. Even you commented about the plane crash scene. It's just plain ridiculous, yet not a spoof comedy.
