    Bought RPG Maker MV like an hour ago and started to watch your series :D Must say i love your humor :D And it totally surpised me that after I watched your last tutorial another just poped out of nowhere :D

      My two cents: it's a lot easier to make a practice game and add elements to it as SRDude covers them in the tutorials. There is a ton of information and actually doing it yourself and seeing how it plays out does wonders for helping you remember it for creating an actual game.

    4:49 If you set it to Wait for Completion and don't turn on Skip If Cannot Move you can actually softlock the game by speaking to the NPC from the left since he won't be able to move and neither will you

    This was awesome, THANKS!! I have just been using "ITEM" conditional situations (i.e. if player has X item then this happens, ELSE, etc). But this makes so much sense and makes things much easier! Also, that Second Event thing is BOSS! I always wondered about putting more events in the same place. Huh. Brilliant!! Thanks!

    yay i re learned how regular switches work!
    they just need to be careful about setting it so the event moves in a direction they are standing in the game will freeze if it doesn't go through you as it can't complete.

      I dont know if this is still helpfull but I created another switch and I activated it after the blocking np moved while deactivating the other first switch after that I made a condtitonal branch for the first npc that checked if the second switch was on . If the second switch was off it would activate the first one and if the second switch was on it would do nothing

      If you click on the gear icon in the corner you can change the speed of the video and make it slower or faster!

    If I want a main quest to be completed before the player can leave the area.
    For example the quest is in a town on one map, while the area the player can't leave yet is on a different map.
    How would i go about that with switches, does it have to do with region IDs?

      Or just make sure there are only a few ways from where players can leave the area, and block them similarly untill the main quest is completed.

    Nice video. If possible could you make a tutorial on how to make Weapon/Armor to have randomly generated stats. And if at all possible Traits as well.

      Thanks. I'm not good with Java. Also, Every time the weapon with the random stats is equipped again the stats randomize themselves again. I tired fixing it so they wouldn't change but like I said I'm not good with Java. Do you think there's a way to fix this?

    What happen with events, is that they will reset every time you reenter to the map zone where they appear, so the only way to
    prevent it is by creating a new event page with NO content, and as for CONDITIONS, you must set true a switch that must become true once your desired event has been completed
    For those that want to permanently turn off the event once the switches have been triggered, here's something I discovered after an hour of testing:
    1) Create the event, with all it's aspects.
    2) Select control switches, and name the switch to create.
    3) Make sure that the switch is ON or OFF depending of
    convinience.
    4) Create the desired conditions to turn either ON or
    Of the switch for convinience.
    5) Prepare the event to make it dissapear in order to not
    repeat itself.

    5.1) Create a switch to set the event as off.
    this switch must be ON.
    5.2) Set the condition to turn ON a new switch to
    confirm that the event is over.
    5.3) Create a new event page.
    5.4) On the conditions tab, check the switch that
    is activated to confirm that the event is over and must not
    repeat herself.
    5.5) Make sure that there is no image nor content on
    the new page, so the event will be technically erased.
    6) If required, create a new event with identical appereance
    to the previous one, on the desired location.
    With this, I was able to permanently 'set' Bob next to the door once I reentered to the map.
    I hope I was able to explain myself accurately.

    Can you help me? So, I created an event that checks for 6 control switches. The names of said switches are Forgive, Kill, Kill2, Kill3, Kill4 and Kill5. When I play-tested the game, it thought that Kill5 was turned on even though it wasn't. How do I get the event to work the way I want it to? It's for a game I'm making called Project Chibi.

    I am trying to make a dating sim using RPG Maker MV. I can draw the maps, do basic dialogue and am still learning about switches and variables (your tutorials are great by the way) But i'm not sue how to go about doing these things. I would also love to know how to make certain tools do certain things to the map (like cutting down a tree or mining, and farming) If i manage to get this game donw i will definantely give some credit to you for the tutorials that have helped me actually be able to do anything. Here's hoping you're able and willing to help :) (i'm still working my way through your tutorials by the way)

      I'll take the offer for credit :).
      First off switches are used as a means to progress, Meaning you use them as a sort of key to get past points. Say you want to cut down a tree you would have your first event page asking if you want to cut it down, By selecting yes you can run "turn switch 1 on" which on page 2 should be the trigger for the event loading, On page two itself you can either not show a graphic which is to show the tree is gone or you could make the graphic a stump. Now if you wanted it to be played out as an animation of the tree being chopped you wouldn't need to even touch the switches or variables, just change the movement image setting but by using switches you are locking the event to stay changed on page 2 even if you leave the map.
      Now variables are like switches but with more added in, say you wanted to have a event only work by saying the same thing three times, Well with variables you can set the option to +1 on variable 1 every time you pick the option and have a "if command" set to read the condition of "if variable 1 >= 3" then you could have a new event play, You can also use this to count how many items you are holding matches the quest by making the item value equal the variable.

    Hi sir I have 1 issue that I'm facing right now and im not sure whether it's related to this video's topic, but here i go.
    So I set my character to talk to a specific npc, and that specific npc will give GOLD to my character. BUT if I keep talking to that NPC, it'll keep giving me GOLD.
    So my question is this, how do i set to once my character recieved the GOLD and even when I talk to that NPC again and I won't get gold from that NPC again?

    So I did a similar switch with a knight allowing entrance to a forest guarded by an ogre. Is there a way to get the ogre to stop saying the same thing and moving the same direction every time you talk to him? Initially, it works great and he moves out of the way to let you in the forest if that switch is on, but afterwards, if I talk to him again, he says the same thing and moves the same direction again, and this would happen as many times as I talk to him.

      Make a second page with a conditional switch that's added on the first page, it always checks if the highest number page can be run so it'll only run the second page after the switch is set.

      They are meant to push progression in the game, say you want to enter this awesome ship but the ship has high levels the player is not ready for, if you set the entrance so that it can only be enter if switch 1 is on then you can stop the player from going into that area at the wrong time. Another example is chaining events, say you want a character to say something but right after you want another event to pop up, make it so talking to the person activates the switch and then the other event will appear, this is great for making side quests.

    I can't turn off a cutscene. When it ends it'll restart when I re-enter the room. How do I fix this? These switches are so confusing. I've re-watched this video a few times and I still don't understand. The cutscene videos didn't say anything on how to stop the cutscene from starting again upon re-entering the room..

      I think you can set up a switch that activates when the cutscene is over that will permanently de-activate the cutscene.

    Also how to install plugins or how to make randomly generated dungeons (for the mines and the likes) so that its different every time they enter, also how to randomly spawn objects in said areas would be great, sorry for posting so much, but i have so many questions and i really want to make my game :)

      If you want random items lets say in a chest you can give the chest a if command for a variable set, say potion is 1, Box of Fly's is 2, Donkey is 3. For this all you need is the if command and setting the variable to a random variable before it reads which one it equals (Just put that at the start of the event, it's under the variable tab).

    I placed a sunbeam picture and changed the screen tint in a certain map... problem is - the picture and tint persists when I leave that map? how do I fix this? I have tried "erase event" at then end of the Event Editor

      Erase event only gets rid of the current event that it's linked too from the map until it's reloaded, meaning it can't be read until you have re entered the map, however this doesn't get rid of anything that has changed the map. What you'll need is either to add the correct tint setting and delete picture () on all exit panel events of the map or set up some x and y variables to the players location and run a if command on the distance you want, you'll also have to have the event run on parallel as well for this method.

    I'm running into a bit of a problem with this tutorial. My setup is a little different however. I have My character, an NPC, and a door. I want my character speaking with the NPC to trigger the door opening. I've tried using the rules of this tutorial to try getting that door open but I just can't seem to do it! Any suggestions?

      Make a second page for the door event that is an auto event that activates after talking to the guy (Switch 001:Door Guy ON) then put a self switch on that event, then make a third page that is just the transfer event with a play touch trigger that turns on through that last pages auto event, both the door pages should have a sprite to show that the door is open.

    Is there a way to use if statements to check the position of the event to decide what it says?
    Ex: If event1 is at 2,3 then (...) Else if event 1 is at 4.5 then (...) Else (...)

      I want to say yes but I can't check right now, go into the variables tab and check if there are any options for setting the variable to an event X and or Y position. I know you can with the player but that's a bit irreverent.

      Okay so I've check and; yes you can. Control Variables - Game Data - Character/ set it to the event you want and set the two variables as X then Y, these two will now act as tracking points for that event as long as you have a event that's parallel with them in it running.
      Example (Used Player for this but you can use event);
      ◆Control Variables:#0001 X = Map X of Player
      ◆Control Variables:#0002 Y = Map Y of Player
      ◆If:X = 36
      ◆If:Y = 49
      ◆If:Player is facing Left
      ◆Set Movement Route:Player (Wait)
      : :◇Jump:-4, +0

      :Else
      ◆If:Player is facing Right
      ◆Set Movement Route:Player (Wait)
      : :◇Jump:+4, +0

      :End

      :End

      :End

      :End

      Consider this, you'll only need to use those variables in that one map, then you can use them for other events later for whatever.

      Okay a number of issues could be the cause but what I'm thinking is that you might have set page 1 to a condition that has not been met, or you have another page that's empty past page one that has no condition.
      The way the pages work is it reads through them backwards, starting from the newest page it can find, if the condition for that page is invalid it'll check the previous page until it finds one that has the conditions all checked.

    Thanks for the series of videos, very very helpful. Switches and vars were a problem for at the beggining. Does anybody knows if I create a custom "public status" for an actor? Example: according to responses in dialogues, his status like "brave", "smart", "thug" will change as people perceive him.

      You'll have to set each of them as an individual variable, if they select a option that raises said stat; you add a point onto the variable and have "if" commannds that check if the variable has enough points to activate the option you want or to level up (Which will require another variable check, these should be running as parallel common events). As for a custom menu; you should be able to set that up using the settings tab.

      Adding a switch should fix that, first off make the first page of the event for the exit's condition blank then only have a player touch event that says "you should put some clothes on" or something like that, then on the clothes event add a switch and call it something related to the clothes, after that make a 2nd page on the exit event and make the condition "if switch clothes" is on. Remember the events that have a condition that has been achieved go by the highest number, ergo if event page 2 has it's conditions met then page 1 is no longer active.

    These switches, are they carried over the next map also? For example Joe gave you permission and now your switch is ON, you went into this house, is this switch still on in this house?
    If when you leave the house, will the switch still be on?

    What if I wanted to make an NPC have a conversation with a character, then leave and disappear?

      FlippyIsKing18 the end event/ or destroy event trigger will get rid of the character having the conversation with you.

      Like sloth said, you could use "erase event" but that'll make it respawn next time you enter the map so I recommend putting a self switch at the end of the event and then making a second page that is blank that requires self switch a to be active.
