Artena looks like a place that rains a lot because of the green on the ground. Makes me wonder if it's slippery to walk when the ground is wet. As always, a wonderful insight to one of the many beautiful towns in Italy. Although I'm more of the type that loves the big city hustle and bustle, I look forward to quiet stays where I can clear the mind and re-energize myself. Good job!!

I thought this was a lovely Italian town, and I couldn't help but again feel captivated by its beauty. Every turn unveiled an array of charming sights - from the characterful, rustic buildings to the picturesque valleys nestled in the surrounding hills. The town indeed seemed to be built like layers of a cake, with its various levels that must have challenged the legs but perhaps rewarded the soul? I am wondering out of all of these little villages if you have favorites? I kept a record of my favorites for a while but eventually gave up since almost all of them ended up on the list. 😀
CIao Deana! Always a pleasure to see you back. The correlation about the town being like a layer of a cake is so spot on. It wasn't an easy task to reach the top before starting filming to say the least, it was quite a breath-taking event (in the painful way of course:)) Hard to say which are my favourites... but surely, amongst the latest ones, I must say Picinisco and Navelli; I truly loved Labro for instance... and it's not a famous walk or town, but surely.. it's hard to say. Every one has its own charme, and I'm not writing this to appear a kind of naive or "too kind dude" - some are more favourite than others for sure, but it's hard to say which)
@@StillWanderer Thank you for your dedication and all of your hard work. I hope you give yourself a rest in between walks. This one did look quite difficult! We so appreciate it, though, as you take us along on your journeys. I will go back and watch Picinisco and Labro. All of the small towns are so beautiful. Thanks again.
Ciao Arturo, I must say that up in the old village I didn't see them actually (in the old town per-se). There are a few a little further from after the filming was finished, in the square down below. I could see a small bar in the square near the end though... but the majority (restaurants, trattorias) are a little downhill from the old town. Still, highly recommend Artena, it's a rough diamond I reckon
I didn't think I would find a town as evocative and beautiful as Sorano, but I think this might be it. Gorgeous narrow streets with a story in every stone. I think the stairs would kill me, though!
It's indeed a stunning town, though quite different from Sorano, Ken. It's a bit more "gloomy" Artena, in some misterious way, while Sorano and its surrounding (especially those) are a little "brighter" and the area is less populated and more.... medieval. Just out of the historical town of Artena it's a rather busy and crowdy area :/ But stunning town indeed Ken
Bella Artena, forte e fiera. Ma sopratutto orgogliosa. L'hai saputa descrivere in modo magistrale Juan!
Italy is like a candy store, one never knows what place to choose, thanks again for making these videos. I'm wondering why do some people place bottles of water outside their doors?
During my walks in the villages of central Italy, I too have always wondered what the bottles on the doorstep were for. So I asked some ladies. It seems that the bottles are placed to keep the cats away, who sometimes mistake the doors of the villages for bathrooms!
Thanks for the answer, I had thought about drinking water for people passing by and perhaps some superstitious reasons, but not that it would keep cats away. Thanks again.
Ah Jeff, you're actually right there. I can imagine those few who don't have the access on the countryside are just the unlucky 2-3% of the population there)
The struggle between Hugo and Jason is starting to shape up as a titanic struggle :) Ciao Hugo) Back in my little town just yesterday evening. I was in north of Italy due to work and while going back I stopped at a little town in Tuscany and filmed it... Perhaps next friday I'll show it. A stunning town, so tiny it was almost comical (!) but absolutely stunning
@@StillWanderer dovrebbero sviluppare pure dell'artigianato locale che venderebbero online pure all'estero. A me dispiace vedere tali bellezze storiche cosi trascurate sembrano quasi rimasti al dopo guerra. Scusa il mio sfogo. Amo molto queste realta' medievali.
Hmmmm... this one seems a little... neglected? Of all the hill towns you’ve shown, this one looks like it could have those 1 euro homes for sale. The views are great, but it appears to be large enough of a town that when enough people leave (sadly), it really shows, because you have more obvious abandoned buildings. Still cool, but not « I want to move there » cool. That said, this represents, in a way, the « honesty » of your channel. Not every town is a gem in Italy (at least, not unanimously), and you show it all. I’ll say it again : Meloni should make you the minister of tourism my friend. Say goodbye to over tourism that’s ruining the Cinque Terre, and say hello to responsible tourism in Tuscany, Lazio and Umbria!
Ahh but Hugo, I just loved Artena instead! It must be my character perhaps, but I adore these kind of towns. Surely not so posh.. and not so polished as many others but with a strong character. . It's like one of those old rough man with a story to tell, as I imagine it. But of course I know what you mean by that. And always glad to know these kind of towns are enjoyed as well, as they are basically the ones that I started with 3 years ago. I took your suggestion by heart and will now ask Mrs. Meloni for the role that I correctly shoud I aspire to... I will let you know. In case, be prepared to be my Vice-Minister my dear Hugo :) We should also draft a plan and an economic aid for Panda 4x4s for these rural towns actually
@@StillWanderer I totally get what you mean, and this is why your channel is great : something for everyone. Mind you, I didn't say «eew, yuck, what a shithole» and turned the vid off! But in the end, this was a bit less to my liking. Likewise, a few months ago, you featured another old town that was almost too perfect, almost as if it was a NEW town, made to look like an old one. That wasn't awesome either. I prefer a happy medium! Either way, it sure beats the run-of-the-mill bland suburbs that popped up in the 60s to 80s here in Canada. And yeah, when you become a minister, I'll gladly play a supporting role. Being Canadian, I'm used to being part of a country where the government spends money it doesn't have, so buying a Panda for every rural family in Italy shouldn't be a problem for me to implement.
@@hugolafhugolaf lol Hugo, being an Italian I can wholeheartdly understand this and also I am quite used being in a country where the governemnt spends money it doesn't have,... But it's even more "artistic" here compared to that, trust me: here sometimes they spend money on things that aren't just...needed. (I was reading the news days ago... and something like this popped up - there was a big uproad as someone found out that some money sent because of covid will be spent on.... stadiums and flowers. Sometimes I just want to pretend it's part of a theatre and a nice funny plot)
@@StillWanderer Sleep easy my friend. Canada is giving incentives for drag-queen summer camps. Yes, for kids. We're fucked. I'm not joking. «A Vancouver theatre that receives taxpayer funding from provincial, federal and local governments is hosting a drag queen camp for kids as young as seven where adults groom them to become drag performers.»

Good job!!
Haupia, very glad to see you back; indeed, some part of Artena are more in the shadow compared to others parts: I sensed that the sunshine didn't light much some parts. while others near the main church are more blessed in this. Another jewel in your crown of beautiful towns in central Italy. The drone footage just took my breath away, as you can see the other towns down in the valley. Thanks for another great work. I enjoyed the tour. P.S. I saw your video last week but just forgot to leave a comment.
Dear Esther, always a pleasure to see you enjoyed the last addition. Artena is indeed in such a position to command all the valley there, even though I found out that after 3 pm the sun doesn't light it very well and it can be a little gloomy, perhaps only in winter though. In the morning it's instead very well lit. A gem of a town indeed... truly liked it , although reaching the top before filming from down below was quite a struggle)

It wasn't an easy task to reach the top before starting filming to say the least, it was quite a breath-taking event (in the painful way of course:))
Hard to say which are my favourites... but surely, amongst the latest ones, I must say Picinisco and Navelli; I truly loved Labro for instance... and it's not a famous walk or town, but surely.. it's hard to say.
Great video! Are there many places to eat out? Cafes, trattoria, etc?

Ti mando un caloroso abbraccio

Italy is like a candy store, one never knows what place to choose, thanks again for making these videos.
I'm wondering why do some people place bottles of water outside their doors?
During my walks in the villages of central Italy, I too have always wondered what the bottles on the doorstep were for.
So I asked some ladies.
It seems that the bottles are placed to keep the cats away, who sometimes mistake the doors of the villages for bathrooms!
Thanks to you dear Asbjørn and glad to see you back here. Stefano actully explained the reason which was rather obscured to me as well!
Thanks for the answer, I had thought about drinking water for people passing by and perhaps some superstitious reasons, but not that it would keep cats away. Thanks again.

Ciao Hugo) Back in my little town just yesterday evening.

Hmmmm... this one seems a little...

Bellissima davvero Artena, Sara.
Totalmente d'accordo Stefano...
