I love this, and the fact it came out the year I was born…fantastic. How I love older movies, NO CGI, or AI intelligence to foul up the story, just pure awesome scenery and great action without all the distractions. Today’s films seems to lack the reality of what makes a film great, they rely too much on the artificial world instead of focusing on what makes films spectacular. This film 🎥 is underrated and has a good story, writers, actors/actresses, great action and directors….great sword fights, my type of movie, a good wholesome movie without all the foul language and sexual overtones which seems to dominate today’s movies, and which also detracts from the story and does NOTHING to enhance it at all. Thank you, hoping to find more like it…..👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🏼🇺🇸🥰
I can't believe I have never seen this film! What a fabulously clear, crisp, beautiful copy, too. Great audio and the cinematography!!! Great story, R&J revisited in Scotland. 😂 Thanks ao much for this upload! 🎉❤😊❤😊
I agree with everyone. A beautiful movie, great acting, Scottish language so pleasurable. The countryside was lovely and reminded me of our trips to Scotland
This is a beautiful movie, so rich in color. It was filmed in Southern California but it was amazing how they made it look like Scotland. So glad it was put on here.
I don't think Scotland has such a high mountain ranges like we have here in California or in Oregon. But I guess the studio couldn't afford to film in Scotland
@@monicaclark9581 you are absolutely correct,,while we have mountain ranges all over our beautiful country, our highest is Ben Nevis at 4,409 feet .. Steamboat Springs,Colorado sits around 7,000 feet. back in the 40s and 50s,,people probably never even noticed where it was filmed and were that entranced by what they were watchng that it never crossed their minds.
Exceptionally entertaining film. Superb horsemanship throughout. Larry Parks and Ellen Drew had nice chemistry between them. Fine supporting cast and cinematography, even though it was shot in California, not Scotland. Thanks for sharing a rare movie gem from the past !!!
I had no idea how much Scotland looks like the High Sierras of Californy!🤣 BUT! This IS a really good movie, and I heartily recommend it for the entertainment value. The video resolution is excellent, as is the acting. While the set design may be geographically lacking, I love seeing all that plaid!
"I had no idea how much Scotland looks like the High Sierras of Californy!" --- I never been to Scotland, but I thought it looks awfully familiar - apparently I'm not the only one.
Heh, when I saw all the horse-riding scenes, especially by the lake under the trees, I thought it looked just like a couple of scenes from The Kissing Bandit. Looks like some production locations were within twenty miles and shot in the same year, so I was close! I was really surprised by how many lovely shots of the countryside this movie had, and all the beautiful horses and frequent galloping about the actors had to do. I've enjoyed getting to see so many old swashbucklers with lavish color and cinematography on TH-cam.
For a "B" picture, the production values, cast and script are all top-notch! An action-packed 80 minutes. The mountains of northern California may stand in for the Scottish Highlands, but the horsemanship is particularly impressive.
An American dream fantasy of how they imagine Scotland! However they missed out that it rains a lot and shy haggis wander about on the moorland. Super old fashioned fun adventure film.
nice job, i really like introduction of the sound, I like classic movies like these when I watch when I'm sick or bored. Anyways great job on the video keep up the good work.
There are pintos in UK including Scotland. If you search for "Appleby Horse Fair" yoi will see photos. It is a national annual Romany gypsy event in Cumbria. Romanies here have horses of all colours and markings - it is part of their culture - and a lot of those are pintos, black and white and brown and white.@@michaelkohloff
haha - First let me say: my heritage is Choctaw. I thouroughly enjoyed this movie but I kept waiting for the "Native Americans" to enter a scene in kilts with South Western designs! This movie was really fun, fictional, entertainment. LOL! @@michaelkohloff
I am neither a scot nor an english. I don't have the slightest knowledge about their ancient cultures, life styles .This movie has told me enough and much more.
I agree. Scotland is super green and I don’t know how many pine trees there are, but they’re definitely isn’t great big stretches of just dirt with no grass.
Must confess all the way through I kept thinking Cowboys in Kilts!!! Been to Scotland many times and cannot agree they made it look like Scotland, Especially the Highland's Overall a decent film though!!
And that white Dancers Tartan -The White Stewart. The Highlands are more green than that. All the same, not bad for Hollywood. At least the didn't muck up our History, like some of the recent productions. Enjoyable movie.
Most Tartans are a 19th century invention. Apparently we have a book published back then to blame for it. The writer used the Tartan patterns he could find and made a few up himself.
I was born in glasgow lived their till I moved to California I have never seen a dust cloud in scotland no even driving down a dirt road. Never dries out enough.
Suddenly everyone is a geography major! It's a movie from 1948 folks - they didn't fly around the world filming "on location" in those days because it was too expensive and added too little to the story for audiences of the time. These days, everyone is more focused on how a movie looks than on the story, which is why most movies suck today. Congrats to you all for your keen eyes though! 😂
addendum to why movies suck today; overpaid wannabe actors in stories written by politically correct writers who aim to please the woke audience of which there aren't enough who are willing to show their support🤑😉
I understand they can't go far away but why did they always have to shoot in the same "Parkland" environment ? Instead of looking for a place that doesn't look like typical California.
This is a handsome film and was made in the attempt to build up Larry Parks career after his success in "The Jolson Story". It is loosely based on the historical feud between the Campbells and the Macdonalds. Columbia spent money on the picture; original tartans were created for the Gowans and MacArdens and a wonderful fake castle set constructed. The lovely scenery, costumes and sword fights add to the show, but Scotland it ain`t ! Never mind ! Hollywood wins out !
A different twist on the "Upstart Crow's" Romeo and Juliette. Movies were so much better without green screen and AI. Edgar Buchanan and his Scottish brogue.
Were there a lot of what we 'Yanks', call 'paint' saddle horses in Scotland? Or is the black & white horse Mr. Parks is riding in this movie, supposed to be a Gypsy Vanner horse.
Just finished watching. So crazy. 4 sons all wiped out. Just the first death was confusing because he rode away out of the water. I was sure it was the black haired murderous brother who did him in. Then turned around and got rid of the only apparently good son. Ugh. Sad story for gowan clan
The Scottish Highlands are a barren, rugged country with hardly a tree around. The movie was fil,ed in California, which spoils the illusion of Scotland.

Yeah I wish we had the same climate too.
Be glad they didn't replace woodlands and hills by a desert. Not mentioning a certain 1965 film.
Great entertaining movie! I had never seen it before. Thank you for posting! ❤👍🎥🍿

Only at the very last minute was I able to breathe a sigh of relief. Passions like those of the Montagues and Capulets in the Scottish style

The story goes that the director received a script for a Western movie involving 2 feuding families. He asked, "can I swap the guns for swords?"
Filmed just up the road from Brigadoon.

Echoes of Romeo and Juliet!
do you have gallant blade 1948 with larry parks ?
Hey, surely this is better and more historically accurate than having John Wayne play Genghis Khan or Anthony Quinn playing an Arab? 😁
As a Scot🏴 living in Scotland 🏴

Entertaining though 👍

Enjoyable movie, but soundtrack was a little much at the end.
These movies are not fantasies at all. Most of these films originate from the ark of the covenant itself

Hollywood in Scotland or is Scotland in Hollywood ?
And filmed in the usa! …odd!
Scottish version of Romeo and Juliet! Excellent movie,
