    Hi John. While I am deathly sick and tired of hearing the title track BOTR, for some reason I can never get enough of "Jet".. a great rocker which painted my childhood so acutely in the early '70s that I always am brought back to those innocent times any time I hear it. The Dustin Hoffman story is much better than the track that resulted from it (meh). I love "1985" and "Let Me Roll It" (while the latter has become so overplayed in concert these days, thankfully the album version sounds different enough to distinguish it and keep it from sounding like overkill whenever I play the LP). "Bluebird" is cute, but oh so twee. I really like "Mrs. Vandebilt".

      MeanMrMayo My favorite tracks are BOTR (probably because its still fresh for me), Jet, Mrs Vandebilt (What’s the use of worrying?), and Let Me Roll It (Paul’s vocal is incredible).

    Universally and justifiably seen as his best solo work. Some of the lyrics are a bit nonsensical if being critical but sonically this album is superb. No weak tracks , beautiful production , McCartney doing what he does best and producing brilliant pop . Bluebird is my favourite , like many of his great songs its a simple acoustic number but beautifully sung by Paul and Linda,
    .

    Hi John. I love every track on this album and for me it never gets tired. For me it's the one album that comes closest to matching the Beatles at the top of their game. I think like London Town it is a great example of what a great team McCartney and Laine were. Love the poster too. Have you heard what's happened in recent times with Clement Freud?

      I think he passed away...like Christopher Lee. But he told an amusing anecdote in the 30th anniversary edtion on the bonus disc...some guy in Latin America recognised him from the cover 20 odd years later! I picked up a Beatles covers album in Manchester the other day and there was a version of Misery by Kenny Lynch!

    Great review and great album John. Agree with you about Jet, heard it so many times I have jet fatigue! Less so with the title track. I adore Bluebird and Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five. Bluebird I think is one of my favourite McCartney tracks of all time. Good work John and enjoy the sunshine.

      Thanks Tim. No weak links here just some overexposed. Something that Back To The Egg hardly suffers from :- )

    This is the album where it all came together for Wings. Paul's best songs since the Beatles, the band performs their best in the studio and overall it's a strong album with no duffers, and it silenced the critics of Wings. 1973 produced some of the best albums of the era and this is one of them. One of my two favourite Wings albums along with Back to the Egg.

    hi John great review as usual. just another point on the difference between the UK and USA copies. On the back cover the pictures of the 3 are in a different order. Linda and Denny are swapped. The iPhone thing i think is an ink pad for the passport stamps. This is one album I don't skip any tracks. while I agree about jet being over exposed, I love hearing the 3 different parts of both and how he weaved them all together. I have never seen it on a proper apple label. I have only just discovered that jet had a different b side in the USA.

    Paul's bass playing superb all the way through as good as on Pepper and Abbey Road. Rickenbacker Macca!

    Not sure if this is accurate but I have just seen the green apple on Indian and Swedish pressings, plus - intriguingly - an orange apple on a New Zealand pressing!! Nice one NZ!

    I agree with John that BOTR is a great album, but I rarely reach for it anymore due to burnout. I have listened to Ram and V&M as many times as BOTR, but I don’t seem to suffer the same burnout.
    I love the hidden gems, No Words and Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five.

    My favourite Macca post Beatles album, and the only album he`s done that`s as good or almost as good, as the classic Beatles albums.

    I saw Macca live in '17. I was hoping he would play Jet - he didn't.

    Pós Beatles considero o trabalho de Paul fraco. Agora George Harrison sempre esteve bem acima no seu trabalho musical. All things must pass de 1970 e Brainswasted de 2002👏👏👏👍🙏🇬🇧.

    Absolutely agree with you on the bonus tracks Helen Wheels and Country Dreamer ( bonus tracks on the CD) these are inferior to the album tracks and do not sit right with the album.

    I didn't like Band on the Run at first but it's sort of grown on me quite a bit. I was disappointed that I couldn't find a place in New Zealand that has the Archive edition since it's the one I'm interested in but I'll probably try and get a copy eventually.

      Thanks Craig. Keep an eye out for the 25th Anniversary edition too, it comes in a neat little box and has great interviews. Meantime I will keep searching for a copy of this album on the Apple label!

    I always wondered why Helen Wheels was missing from the British version. What's too bad is that its lyrics are missing from BOTH versions. Also, the name "Sailor Sam" connects it with the title song in a way.

      @johnheaton5667  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oppeldeldoc1 good point about sailor Sam...as for HW not being on the uk version I guess Paul wanted it that way...but now it’s good to have both versions also with their alternative album covers!

    Band on the run album is so strong I can listen to it end to end, as good as any Beatles album.

    Hey John love your channel I subed, have you ever thought of doing a Moodies album? Would love to hear what you would say. I'm of course talking of everything up to seventh sojourn or any solo stuff. Thanks for your attention to details.. You have wonderful insight!!!

      L. E. Thanks for your comment and sorry for the late reply. I don't really feel qualified to review the Moodies but have respect of course. Need to get more familiar with the albums first!

    John, what's your ultimate wish-list of Wings songs that Paul should do in concert?

    • @johnheaton5667
      @johnheaton5667  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      James Griffiths too long to mention...girls school, little lamb dragonfly, cafe on the left bank, warm and beautiful, eat at home, anything off Back to the egg....so there's a few....although not sure his voice could handle all these anymore :- (

    • @jamesgriffithsmusic
      @jamesgriffithsmusic 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, good choices. There are a few B-sides I'd love to hear him do...Daytime Nighttime Suffering, Flying to my Home. Also some absolute rank outsiders which I don't think he'd ever do: Big Barn Bed, Something About You. If I was him I would be constantly seeking to surprise the fans....imagine starting a stadium show with Bip Bop, played on the ukelele, how cool would that be. Has he ever performed Wanderlust? If not I can't think why he wouldn't.

    • @johnheaton5667
      @johnheaton5667  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      James Griffiths well one is tired of wishing for such things! He is often quoted as saying if he was a fan he'd want to hear the hits..think he is catering more to the casual fan which is a bloody shame

    • @jamesgriffithsmusic
      @jamesgriffithsmusic 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's a lot of it about. Unfortunately there are indeed lots of people who, if they pay big dollars for a concert ticket, feel short-changed if the hits are not delivered.

    • @johnheaton5667
      @johnheaton5667  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah but they would be satisfied with say 5 well known Beatles classics surely (it's not like some artists where the well known tracks are just a handflu)....we really don't need to hear Let It Be or Hey Jude live again
