Thanks man for everything you do for us beginners... I'm following you from Romania. Can you please make a video with the chrome skin because I honestly can't make a nice edge. Thanks
Great video will buddy you can also use a pigmented primer and then a dense edge paint ! Normally about 3 coats with a light sand in between and you get a really smooth round edge 😊
Homie if you adjust the "aperture" or f-stop of the camera (increase to bigger number) more of the frame will be in focus and changing focus near-to-far and far-to-near will be a lot faster. I think. You'll have to adjust other settings to match the brightness of the frame, but you might find it helps... I love my suspenders and radio strap! I ordered chin strap and glove strap DIY kits to give it a try myself! So glad to have found your products and channel.
True on all accounts. I know all of these things. I was just too lazy to edit. 🤣. I saw that you ordered. thanks bro. I threw in a little extra for you.
I use a small wool dauber to dye my edges but the dauber has to be burned off way more than just the fuzzys and I use and reuse them until they are pretty small and pretty firm. If they are too soft they'll cause the dye to go off the edge too far. I like to use black dye for edges with brown dyed sides, therefore the dauber has to be firm and then you can cut a perfect crisp line on the edge with a little practice.
Hi I am just beginning leather work. Is it ok to put neetsfoot oil on my leather first an then follow the step you're giving. In a word will neetsfoot will interfere with your direction. Thank you I am learning a lot from you guys!
Me: 1. Permanent marker on the edge or dye 2. Burnish with a burnishing wheel 3. Apply fiebings bees wax 4. Burnish again with wheel. 6. I finish using an italian product similar to acrylic resolene, which is alot better in my opinion. Very hard and protect the edges extremely well.
Great training video! Using your technique, I've gotten the best edges ever for me. One question. I purchased the resolene using your link and it was gummy with solid clumps which just sat on the edge, so I wiped it off. Did I get a bum batch which had been frozen along the way or do I simply need to thin it down with water? If I need to thin, what ratio of water to resolene do you suggest? Thanks for any help you can give me!
@@SofieldLeather Ah ok, thanks! I already used Tokonole to burnish on the project I am working on, and I already own some edge kote so maybe I will practice on a few pieces, and give it a try. But your edge methods looks awesome, I will be ordering some Glycerin Saddle Soap for sure 👍
I just picked up a few little things from your Amazon contact. Hope it helps. Love the video's!!! One thing, you were so careful to use clean canvas and burnisher but you used water that had brown stuff in the bottom of the jar. Misstep?
how can i get aging effects like an affliction leather jacket. There are aging effects only on contours or edges of jacket. Can i give link, i think youtube deletes them. I have a simple black leather jacket but i want it to look like an affliction jacket.
Hi there! Wanted to see if you could possibly help? My husband took his cordovan belt to a shop to get refurbished. It is not cordovan anymore but now a muddy brown. Any advice on me dying it back to cordovan? We know nothing about doing this. Thanks!
So I have quite a bit of beeswax. Where does one get bees wax mixed with paraffin wax? And if I did it myself would it be 1 to 1. What are the ramifications of using just pure bees wax
I don’t know if there is a way. Best practice is to prevent it from happening. I’ll have to look into repairing cracked leather. Never had to do it. Good question though
Made a mistake on my first project and put beeswax on and burnished edge prior to dying. Realized my mistake after attempting to dye the belt and edges. Should I just sand the end off and dye, then burnish? How do I fix the issue.
That applicator looks like a Montana Acrlylic Marker. You can buy them empty or filled and they are used for a Arylic Montana Marker art usually used in graffiti and graphic illustration.
Up until the resolene, we do our edges exactly the same, even the same top middle bottom process with the Montana marker. Instead of resolene (I've just never used it), I have a bench polisher with a thick felt wheel that I lean the wax\paraffin Reese cup into, then apply that onto the edges, then final burnish with the cocobolo burnisher in a drill press to "melt" it in. I do this for belts and holsters mainly, and they really never fuzz up again. Great video man.
make pattern so I cut the edges off, sand paper (180 grit, 400, 600, 1500) tokonole with wood slicker, then cloth. then re-sand 600, and 1500. tokonole with cloth. then columbus wax and cloth.
Listen, i appreciate the video - it's very informative and good so thank you for that. But this damn auto-focus made my eyes hurt. I think i'll need to go to the doctors tomorrow and get my eyes checked. Jesus. Sometimes less is really more..

Thanks for the tips!
No problem. 👌🏼👌🏼
I literally took a pair of channel locks to my marker before I learned it was left hand threaded. It’s a life saver though for sure!

Nice tips brother. Thumbs up and a new subscriber.

What was the name of the aplicator u add the dye to
I think it’s called Montana applicator. Should be a link in description
I use a small wool dauber to dye my edges but the dauber has to be burned off way more than just the fuzzys and I use and reuse them until they are pretty small and pretty firm. Hi I am just beginning leather work. Is it ok to put neetsfoot oil on my leather first an then follow the step you're giving. In a word will neetsfoot will interfere with your direction.
Thank you I am learning a lot from you guys!
Yes, absolutely. Not a problem so long you let it soak in and dry. I do it all the time. 👍
Thanks
Anytime. 👍
What is the link or name of that applicator u said u posted the link but I can get it
Something kind this. amzn.to/3TnkzYB
Me:
1. Permanent marker on the edge or dye
2. Burnish with a burnishing wheel
3. Apply fiebings bees wax
4. Burnish again with wheel.
6. I finish using an italian product similar to acrylic resolene, which is alot better in my opinion. Very hard and protect the edges extremely well.
Right on. 👍. Thanks for sharing.
Is this for all leathers or just veg tan or chrome tan?
I only use vegetan. Can’t speak on anything else.
When you finish a belt do you also use a critical resolution for the final step?
I always finish with a light layer of Acrylic resolene
Great training video! Using your technique, I've gotten the best edges ever for me. One question. I purchased the resolene using your link and it was gummy with solid clumps which just sat on the edge, so I wiped it off. Thanks for watching. Other guys have the same problem. I think once it freezes, it spoils.
Thanks for the word. The good news it's that it was a small bottle. I'll get some more.
No problem. I never had that problem but I do know it gets ruined if it freezes. I hope the new one works.
When do you use Fiebing's Edge Kote? I bought it thinking it was the edge dye, but you mentioned that it's more of a colored acrylic finish?
I never really use that to be honest. I like to dye then use resolene for the finish. Or tradition beeswax and burnish.
@@SofieldLeather Ah gotcha, thanks for the reply. If I were to use Edge Kote, when should I be using it in the process?
I would apply after I burnish. Should be the last step. 👍
@@SofieldLeather Ah ok, thanks! I already used Tokonole to burnish on the project I am working on, and I already own some edge kote so maybe I will practice on a few pieces, and give it a try.

Hmmmmmm. 🤔🤔🤔. I don’t have any experience with this specifically. I do know that you can get it darker but never lighter.
So I have quite a bit of beeswax. Where does one get bees wax mixed with paraffin wax? And if I did it myself would it be 1 to 1.
What are the ramifications of using just pure bees wax
Yes. 1 to 1. No ramifications at all. Just preference. Try them both and see. Thanks for watching.
How do you repair cracked veg tan?
I don’t know if there is a way. Best practice is to prevent it from happening. I’ll have to look into repairing cracked leather. Never had to do it. Good question though
I sand, burnish, dye and burnish again sometimes more dye and burnish
Made a mistake on my first project and put beeswax on and burnished edge prior to dying. Realized my mistake after attempting to dye the belt and edges. Should I just sand the end off and dye, then burnish? How do I fix the issue.
Hmmmmp. Sounds like a good idea to me. Thats exactly what I would do.
