I got my love for gardening from my grandparents who raised me. But as a kid, I certainly would have wanted to do anything else, but pick and snap beans. I'd complain and my grandpa would tell me, "when the snow blows up to the window sills, you'll be thankful for those beans". Wise worlds to me now as an adult. I'll always grow beans.

Amen! Our babysitter made us snap beans, shuck corn, shell pecans, etc. Our reward was the pool. How I would give anything for those days again.

Brings back memories of decades ago. My hands and fingers would get raw and painful spreading dewanner out of a bucket and stirring it around filling fertilizer spreaders. Besides using attached implements to spread fertilizer, had converted over walk behind "dewanner knockers" to pull behind a tractor to fertilize our big ol gardens after drawing rows . I love that Cub tractor, never owned one. My farmall small agg tractor experiences was a Farmall A, Similar attachment systems as your Cub. But for big fields I used three point drawn implements. Loved planting with Cole and Covington planters.. They were easy to adjust and "set it and forget it" Listen, I really enjoy ya'lls videos. Hopefully they will teach and pass some forgotten knowledge on to a younger generation(Lord knows they need help) Keep up the good work and God Bless y'all.

Good morning Mr Danny and Miss Wanda. Love hearing you talk about your Daddy, Mr Danny. Reminds me of my Granddad when you tell stories about your days growing up. I got to spend precious little time with him but he was a lot like your Dad
Waiting on a little daylight before we get back to stretching fence….yes, I’m STILL doing that….probably be at it till mid summer 🤦‍♀️
I was lucky to find a hay grower last year that also does not spray…so thankful for him…he’s a bit of a haul away but I’m happy to drive and haul the hay from his farm.
I well remember your Grazon debacle….I immediately started checking with all my hay folks, fortunately most of them don’t use spray for their hay fields but there are a few who are located close enough to commercial farm land that I was concerned. Blessed to have found a good local source.
Blessings from the river swamp ❤

Danny my husband and I farmed 1972-86. We had a farmall to turn our customers hay into rows to bale up. We had an old swather that had no cab and had 2 handel s to push right or left. Pull back to turn and push foward. Old machinery work best. Planted our garden just like you. Took string and short rebar and planted first flat. Then pulled dirt up into shallow rows. Could eye row crop when sprouted. To this day I have my great grandmother's cloth bonnet that I put on to shade my head with when gardening or outside work. Never could stand itching of straw hats. Bonnet or a bandana. Have a push style 1 row wheel plow for making deeper rows for watering garden. Use old to remember what came before me. I'm 69 blessings

Hey Danny, here’s just a suggestion on your home made bean planter. On the bottom of pvc pipe you could insert a small funnel upside in there , it may prevent dirt from clogging up into the pipe when moving to each seed drop. Just trying to help. Many Thanks with Blessings. Enjoy watching your videos over and over. 🙏❤️

I got very bad knees and lousy shoulders, but finally this year I’ve got a start on a “garden.” Planted some bad smallish russets that got green skin (old Wallyworld stock) about a month ago! I converted my Cub to 12volt using the one wire system. NAPA 4011 alternator if I remember correctly. An adaptor is available. Made it easy. The wiring was the trickiest part for me but worked out well. The 6volt starter works well enough but will get warm if you crank long and hard. Mine usually pops off first crank.
Have used my PVC seed planter which is almost identical to yours for years. I used 1 inch pvc which makes it easier to drop in the seed. Good luck with any future Cub projects and be sure to video it so I can learn something new. Not new to gardening but relatively new to Cubs. Thanks for everything!

Good Morning. I'm re-watching this video this morning and I assume that you've already by now gotten all the plates you need. The man I bought one of my planters (a POAX Single Seed Hopper) from told me he used the Peanut Plate to plant beans. It's about a quarter inch thick and I just used it yesterday for Green Beans. It seemed to work fine. Also another old Cub Farmer friend made lots of his plates out plexiglass with a drill and a jig saw and he showed me plates he had used for years, customized to his preference.

Hi Danny and Wanda. Yes those calves are wanting mama still but they'll get better.
Sounds smart to convert the cub when you get the kit.
Wonderful Keith and Joey sent you all those parts.
Those rows are looking so good.
I like what you've made for planting the seeds. I believe I saw you planting corn last year with that. Very
creative, simple and like that that you can adjust the distance you want to plant each seed.
I prefer to save my own seeds as it is getting harder to get what I want or their sold out.
My last frost probably won't be until May. So awhile before any outdoor planting.
It sounds like the cub is really good for planting and just what you need.
Your daddy taught you well, Danny and you've got his diligence and perseverance together with Wanda.
I appreciate you sharing all your doing. I learn so much. Thank you both and many blessings to you!

Old dog new tricks. I came up in the city. No one to teach me anything about gardening so I have had to copy other's methods and years of hit and miss experiences. Now I can attend YT University and learn lots of new skills.
Tried your method of starting sweet potato slips this year. Planted the potatoes last week and because of all the rain we have had, I decided to pull one up to check it for rot. One week and it already has roots growing out of it. Hasn't broke the surface but wow! Have to pull all my seedlings inside due to colder weather coming but have heat mats and grow lights at the ready. Thank you!

Since moving here, zone 8a, I've never even thought about planting our snap beans this early. The almost guaranteed frost, and potential freeze chance, up through early May, seemed like a bad idea. Except this is when any pods that got away from us sprout. I should yank some of those up and plop them somewhere not in the way. See how they do through this spring.
What I want is a manual carrot/tiny seed seeder. So far, the brainstorm idea is a 15 by 30 inch piece of lightweight acrylic or resin. Some sort of affixed, standing height handles to lift it along the bed, to new sections, with molding trim on the edges to prevent accidental seed lose. Drill small 3 inch spaced holes, marked with vivid paint, and drop those tiny seeds down the smallest diameter pipe length I have.
If it's 3 inch spacing, then drop a seed, no no no no, drop a seed, for the 12 inch spaced brassicas and similar. The tricky part would be stabilizing the pipe, rubber gasket or something at the base? Prevent fatigue bump misses. It's possible I could skip all the other stuff except the thin pipe, add a 3 inch corner, and just go from there. One row at a time. lol Hope that the seed somehow makes it all the way.

Great video! It has me wanting to go start planting but we have to wait a few weeks. last year I tried planting a few rows of bush beans with the planter on the cub and it worked beautifully. I used the large corn plate, size and feeding was great but spacing could have been a little tighter. I really think you are going to love that planter/side dresser set up. It's so nice to make your row plant and fertilize in one pass.

That cub is amazing! We did see the one Hollis made. I'm going to make one as well, it's getting more difficult for me to bend over. I'm a Army Green Beret Vet and you can see the scars on my arm I'm feeling it as I get older. We love watching yawl plant. We are thinking about moving on 10 acres 3 hours away from where we are. Thanks for sharing, God Bless.

What a fun way to garden. The older models of tractors are the best, there the real deal.

I've rebuilt many of those 6 volt tractors. The secret is the cable size andthe ground connection. Cables need to be O (otto or double ott) and the starter gets its ground path from the mounting surface. So make sure that's clean. Hope that helps. Oh and by the way. My latest cub wouldnt charge the battery and I found out the amp guage was bad

My gauge shows charging only when I turn the lights on. Plus it took weeks to get a battery in from being ordered. Nobody around here carries them.
