The iPhone 5 is arguably one of the most beautiful iPhones ever made, it was also my first smartphone! So when I found a sealed, new in box iPhone 5 on eBay I simply couldn't resist the urge to unbox it. I had to have it. In this video we'll see if the iPhone I bought was in fact real and unbox this brand new 9 year old iPhone! We'll also get to explore iOS 6, run some old apps, and admire the wonderful design of this iconic piece of history!

That B-roll at 9:27 just brings me way back in time, back when the iPhone and the iPod Touch (still running iOS 4/5/6) became affordable and popular. Around 2011/2012, almost everyone in high school, had one of these two devices (at least, here in the Netherlands). Everyone had those silly apps like iBeer, and fun simple games like Fruit Ninja, it was so cool back then, it was a time where (apart from Twitter and Facebook) there just wasn't really anything else interesting. The iPhone 5 running iOS 6 feels like the end of an era for me, the end of the Steve Jobs era. After Steve died and the release of iOS 7, they changed the UI designs of iOS and OS X, to a material/flat design, leaving Apple's characteristic skeuomorphic design behind, changing the way Apple devices look. I really didn't like it at first, but after a few years, after all the little changes every new iOS version, they really improved the overall look, and it grew on me, I'm really liking it now. But it still doesn't have the same (almost homefeeling) aura as iOS 6 had. But I guess that's just the nostalgia, of a time, that's now, long gone.

I have always enjoyed Retro tech over current tech even though I use stuff from today as well. I think because I'm closer to 45 Years old (2 years away) that looking back to stuff I grew up with just means more. Most YouTubbers I see are half my age, if not younger, and while they can do research and get used devices and still try them out. It's different using them at the time they were current. Another example I'll give is gaming, I'm not a hard core gamer, but IF I do play, I'd much rather play old DOS, or Windows based games, or old classic Mac games over current stuff (unless you're talking console such as Nintendo, etc.) I grew up with the Atari 2600, and 5200 as my consoles.

My first one was the 3G...wow what a big thing that was back in the day. But my first "love" was the iPhone 4 with the introduction of the retina screen. Oh boy....now I want one again.....

I remember getting an Black iPhone 5, and I was so amazed that it had 64GB, so huge coming from my 8GB White IPhone 4S. The black design with glass and metal also amazed me, especially how light the device is

I remember when the iPhone 5 came out like it was like yesterday for real, but before I can buy the iPhone 5, then the iPhone 5c came out at the time, so my first IPhone, was the iPhone 5c.

This was my first iPhone too! (though I'd had a couple generations of the iPod Touch before that) I got mine secondhand though, and it was already on iOS 7.
I also stayed with that same form factor all the way until 7 months ago, as after the iPhone 5 I had the 5S and then the original SE. Finally switched to the new SE just last year

I loved my 5 so much! I still have mine, never dropped it or anything. I ended up going with the 12 mini recently switching up from a 7 Plus. Big phones just don’t make sense. Using my 7 Plus was getting really annoying because of its size.

I still keep my silver iPhone 5 by my bed to listen to music and podcasts. It feels so tiny as all my phones since have been pluses. I used it for awhile and probably would have kept going but the battery life was getting short. Do love it though.

My first iphone and my second ever phone was the 4s so I can definitely relate with you on the nestalgia. One day I accidently dropped it and the screen shattered into a thousand and a half pieces. The funny thing is, even after the screen was filled with cracks, it still turned on. After a few weeks, I finally upgraded to the 5s, then 6s, then SE first gen, and now I have the 12 mini. My 2 favorites were definitely the 4s for being my first iphone and SE for just how long it lasted me.

First iPhone wasn't a 5, but I do remember it being one of the first iPhones I was acutely aware of. I remember walking into Target and seeing adverts for the 5, then the 5S and the 5C.

The iPhone 5 has always been my favorite. It was my first new iPhone. My first iPhone it all was the 4 that was when it came out on Verizon so I never got it the day it originally came out in 2010 like most people. But the 5, I was there day one and it was wonderful.

Actually my first iPhone was the 4S when I was 14 years old. I bought it the July of 2012, but next year, when the iPhone 5 was released, I wanted it a lot, It was the first iPhone with a larger display etc, so I was blown away with it, and I bought it at 31 December 2012! Today looking back I think that move was a mistake, because I wanted an iPhone like crazy from the 3GS era, and I got only the iPod Touch 2 and iPod Touch 4 by that time, so when I finally, after a lot of patience got the iPhone 4S, it would be the right thing to keep it at least for one year!
After all, the iPhone 4S was an amazing phone at the time, and even today the design is fantastic! It screams quality! I shouldn't act like a greedy kid and just sell my first ever iPhone 4S to buy an iPhone 5...
But yeah, when I got it, I was again blown away with it! I vividly remember the feel of the larger display, with its more deep colours, and the thinner and lighter design! Also the speaker was much better! Ah.. Good times...

Yep, my first iPhone was that very same phone. Slate has been my personal favorite of any color on an iPhone. Love my iPhone 12 mini, but wish the colors for the 12 were identical to my original 5. That would great!

I stood in line for 6 hours to get that phone on release day, while on vacation in Hawaii! During that 6 hours in the heat I started talking to the guy in line in front of me, and we traded phone numbers. We have been friends since, and my wife and I are going to grab lunch with him when we head back over to Oahu next month!. I still remember seeing the phone for the first time when an Apple employee brought the iPhone out in a little plastic box for everyone to look at. Such a fun trip!
