And a very merry Christmas to you all too. Thank you all for the effort and enthusiasm that goes into the Hutvent calendar. It is appreciated and enjoyed 😉
Wow, top that Jerry ! What a fabulous series, so enjoyed each and every one, but what a finale. Well done GWH Team, truly first rate stuff ! HAPPY CHRISTMAS to you all and thanks for sharing this.
Terrific talk on the iron ration. When I was a deck officer in BP Tankers in the 1970s, part of the tinned rations in the lifeboats were biscuits very similar in appearance to the ones in this film. They were soldered into tins to protect them from water damage. I know what they tasted like because we saved some tins of the biscuits when exchanging them for some more modern emergency rations.
Thank you very much indeed, and how fascinating. It makes perfect sense to have them as lifeboat rations. In fact the biscuits on the plate in the final scene were all biscuits that had come from a tin just as you describe and we had suggested that they were lifeboat biscuits. Roughly what size were the tins?
Thank you so much for the Hutvent Calendar - I'm a little late catching up with them all, but it was definitely worth it. It really brings the items alive to hear you all so enthusiastically describe the stories behind them and how they were used. Please keep up the good work.

Fran P The subject is, but finding 25 different, interesting objects which tell a story is not as easy as you would think…
