Zion, Tre, and Barrett for the most part did their thing (though Tre struggled last game, Barrett missed some crucial clutch shots, and even Zion bricked a clutch free throw) but the biggest disappointment has to be Reddish who was a complete no show all season. I’m not sure if Reddish is anything but someone like Otto Porter, which is solid but not near the hype Reddish was getting coming into the season smh

Zion appears to be a great player with a special future. Coach K also carries himself with a lot of class. The media gets a little carried away sometimes. Yankees, Red Sox, Cowboys etc., if a smaller market team does well the sports media seems disappointed.
You know how people talk about basketball as a guard’s game, this game exemplified it. Cassius Winston made his team go, and while Tre Jones is noted for his defense, he wasn’t as consistent on offense.
I expected Michigan State vs Duke to be a great battle and MSU emerged the victor. I'm glad the Big Ten is in. GO MSU.

Damn Steven A. they were freshmen. If that same squad played for years together, then yes this would be a disappointment. It’s more disappointing that other teams weren’t able to better handle them. Many of us may have wanted to see them win it all, but this was not a failure of a season. Those guys did very well for Duke and themselves.

I think Cam Reddish never understood how to move with out the ball because he dominated the ball so much in high school. I believe Coach K could never figure out how to use Cam. I do think Cam is inconsistent but the duke offense never ran plays. You got to run plays for Cam. If he were to come back he'd average 16pts to 18pts. Cam should have went to some were like Villanova, Seton Hall or St. John

E Boogie no that wasn’t defense that was terrible coaching on Coach K’s part and inexperience by the freshmen. If they are fronting the entry and clogging the side, you swing the ball and enter on the back side. You set a down screen and flash the free throw line. It was a total fail as if the coaching staff was sleep. How doesn’t Zion run the point in the last minute of the game?? State played great defense but it wasn’t defense that stopped them from getting the ball, it was inexperience. They had 6 players on one side of the court and was forcing the ball in the paint...terrible.
Sure Zion feels bad but this is nothing being picked #1 overall can’t fix.

Zion choked badly in that previous game, missing a freethrow. Thankfully, RJ WAS clutch, got the offensive board and they advanced thanks to RJ being clutch.
My theory is that Cam Reddish wasn’t hurt. He was benched by Coach K for some reason. It just looked that way. I’m a duke fan. From a strategy standpoint, Coach K is becoming more like Dean Smith at the end of his career. Got all the talent but is losing his ability to strategize. I noticed that they didn’t allow Zion to post up nearly as much as they should have. Honestly they should have done it every time down the court. The ball would swing away from Zion and I couldn’t understand why. K didn’t teach Zion to insist on posting up. And yes I know he posted up a lot but watch him just give up sometimes. Sometimes Zion would post and then come out of it when the defense would push him. This tells me that Zion gives up the post when he finally runs into someone willing to fight him for it or that he wasn’t told to impose his will to be on the block. RJ would impose his will to score and fail repeatedly, and he is less talented than Zion and Cam. Poor Cam wouldn’t impose his will at all. Maybe he tried and got benched. Can’t believe I’m saying it but Coach K failed them. #1) He didn’t correct RJ from being a ball hog. In fact looks like he encouraged it. 2) He didn’t develop a true offense off of Zion’s post ability 3) If Zion wasn’t in the post, K didn’t make him develop face up jumper inside the arc. 4) He hurt Cam’s confidence by making him a distant 3rd option. Cam is a far better offensive weapon than RJ. But his confidence was shot. 5) Trey Jones wasn’t a consistent shooter by tournament time. Confidence was shot too.6) Here is a big one!!! He didn’t develop or even use Bolden enough!!! You would think that K would have insisted on using Bolden vs MSU after dealing with Tacko Fall. K’s obsession with Small Ball killed them. He could have played Cam, RJ, Zion, Delauria, and Bolden and easily won using the rest off the bench. MSU had guy out there who are grown men. Meet them with force or lose.
Cam Reddish was underperforming almost all year. He was hyped up to be a possible top 10 pick in the draft, but from what I've seen I wouldn't waste any first round pick on him. People focus in on Zion and RJ, but if Cam did half of what he was hyped up to do, Duke wins. Just one 3 or mid-range jumper...

Duke fan here. This loss compared to last year with Kansas falls on Coach K. I've been watching Duke for over 20 years and K isn't great at adapting or adjusting in game situations. We ran the same play for like 7 minutes straight: DeLaurier screen for Barrett, Zion post up. The issue is that no touches for Reddish and Jones was getting worked like a mule guarding Winston. Switching every screen was bad. I agree 100% with Smith, and I called bullcrap on Reddish "knee" as well. Hell I even said on Twitter that it was a Scottie Pippen "migraine" thing. I didn't believe it for a second. Honestly I feel that he might have skipped curfew or something and K punished him. Barrett free throw percentage for an elite guard is bad. I don't blame MSU to pack the paint on Zion. Also, we have beaten MSU two years in a row and guess who were on those teams?? Cassius Winston. Redemption game for Winston who earned it and deserved it. Congratulations to Izzo and Michigan State making the Final Four.

Tre lost the game for Duke plain and simple. But the biggest story is Coach K keeping Bolden, Connor, and White in for wayyyy too long. Those guys provided no energy and did not contribute at all to the game. I would've ripped their damn scholarships up in their faces. Izzo out coached Duke and drew up plays that worked.

I believe this season wasn't a disappointment. The media has been overhyping this team as the next Team USA since Zion's first alley-oop as a blue devil. It's impressive how these Freshmen almost reached the Final Four while handling the pressure from the media. Sure luck was on their side but the fact that they were able to make it to the Elite 8 when 3 freshmen are starters is amazing. Also, they lost to a great Michigan St team that has been "slept on" because of ESPN bromance with Zion. If any team was a disappointment it was UNC.

It was a disappointing loss but as a whole I can never be and will never be disappointed in how far a young team like this one got. Michigan states win wasn’t anymore impressive than the wins Duke had. We would all be saying different about Duke if Barrett hits both free throws and they won the game in over time. Let not even talk about how there were many fouls committed by both teams that were not called that could have also changed the face of this game.

Duke never used cam right. Some games he was inconsistent but last night they went to Rj every play. And during the last minute Rj basically choked the game. Taking bad shots and missing free throws. It was some plays Cam never even touched the ball. Zions inside game should’ve made cam reddish so much better but they never gave him the ball

I saw Duke being in The Final Four, with all that talent, led by Zion. Michigan State was a better team that night, they deserved it. Cassius Winston was doing whatever he wanted in the lane and controlled the pace of the game. Duke should've been more agressive.
