Ni hao Henry! Nice fix, welding that thin metal is a challenging. The location of the deck wash insert is most likely the culprit, and homeowner lawnmower abuse, chargeable in Podunnk Indiana.

Wow, that sure came out a lot better than I expected! BTW for future reference Rustoleum REGAL RED is the exact balls-on perfect match for Toro red. Sunrise is kinda close but it’s just a little too hot (sunrise is actually good for Troy-Bilt). Good job and cool to see the inside of the gear box.

Put some duct tape underneath the holes and then use JB weld and fill it in and let it cure, sand and paint.
I would do the same to that cub cadet powernomore engine rotted deck.
I would only say something if someone else brings it up. It's functional, that's the main thing.

This video came up on my feed. I recently did a deck switch on my tractor due to rust out. I had some metal welded on 4 years ago, but it became Swiss cheese. I switched most of the parts from the old to new deck with new hardware, except, I did buy new spindles. Rot is rot...

trying to hide a repair, means you, yourself is not convinced that it is a good repair, which it btw isn't. you should have cut out the rotten piece, welded in a new peice, that actually fits, and not a piss poor welded overlap. it's nothing else than scamming people. make yourself proud, and fix it the right way, so you don't need to hide stuff.
It’s a jack job, sold it, told customer, he didn’t care. Even your suggestion would still look repaired one that you couldn’t hide either
@@MowersNBlowers there would be no need to hide if you do it right. But, you can infact hide it, but not easy when using a stick welder. Mig/tig would be my choice
