- Today we share our best health insurance options for full time travel (early retirement). We go over Affordable Healthcare Act options, IMG Expat insurance and Med Share insurance options.
So very helpful, thank you both for all you do!
I am reading some terrible reviews about IMG and Cigna on reddit, not sure if these are just disgruntled people due to not understanding the policy properly or if these companies are overly zealous about denying claims using frivolous reasons. A lot of reviews mention claims being denied due to the "Pre-existing" condition clause which makes no sense unless a prior physical actually showed the condition to be "pre-existing". "Pre-existing" cannot be ruled after the fact.
I have been on the gold chm for quite a few years. Back in 2019 I had to have brain surgery. We had to pay up front but CHM ended up covering it all except our $500 deductible. It was super great to be able to schedule imaging when it was convenient for me, not waiting for a prior authorization. Very liberating!
You have no idea how much you have just relieved my health care concerns. I'll be around age 48 when I begin this lifestyle in 2.5/3 years, and I'm quite healthy so to hear how affordable these plans are was another tick of my list of FT "retired" life travel concerns. For what the expat rates for a couple around age 50 would be, I'm being charged similar to that through my government employer. Another great piece of info to log into the spreadsheet. Now if there's a way to find cheaper international flights, I'll be set! Thanks again for premium content, Allie & Rob. 🙂
That's great! If you haven't seen the hospital video yet, we go over what actually happened when we needed to use it, it's on this channel from November.
@@GroundedLifeFinancesevery sentence you guys speak in all your videos is valuable information. My FAVORITE new channel, by far. Congrats on your lifestyle, and thank you for the useful info.
I love you guys 😊.. just thankful for you two and the info you share
Thank you- this is a great breakdown of the options.
Glad it was helpful!
So informative! Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Pre-existing condtions, anyone?
Love the channel... thank you for sharing all your insights. What do you guys do for health insurance for your children in this situation?
We are of a similar thought. We are not living outside the US but will be spending months away at a time. So we will get ACA for when we are home and buy nomad insurance while away. Most of them do not require a physical to have temp insurance for a few months at a time. So that works out.
I appreciate the knowledge I gain from the video & I appreciate the relief of knowing CHM exists. And I have done research on CHM and I have come to learn they do not cover preventative healthcare. How do you handle preventative costly healthcare procedures?
Your channel found me today. Finally! Do these plans cover prescription drugs for say, cholesterol?Thank you so much!
❤ wow great information. Save to folder. Thanks for sharing this.
You are so welcome!
A comprehensive ACA plan for someone in theIr 40s costs 1100 per month. Even after applying a full subsidy of 500 to 600 dollars, you're still looking at a 500 to 600 dollar a month premium. Better to save that money and have cash to pay for small emergencies in cheaper countries.
❤
Have you ever submitted a claim for the Medshare? I've not personally used it but have heard horror stories of them denying claims for fairly frivilous reasons. Was just curious about your experience.
Yes I'd like to hear your experience with this too.
Do you need to be Christian to join/sign-up CHM? If so, do they require proof such as written document from your pastor? Thanks
Do you guys know anything about Cigna Global or Allianze Health insurance ? Im making my plans for full time travel.I have 4 and a half years until retirement and Ive been doing my research already.I recently found your channel and I appreciate the information you guys put out.
We have not used those, only IMG
I was looking into Cigna myself but it has absolutely terrible reviews online so got scared away by that
If you have international travel insurance or a medical savings plan, don't you have to advance your own funds when you have a medical emergency abroad and hope to get reimbursed later? If this is true wouldn't someone need 10 000 saved up to cover this or have a credit line of that kind of money open?
Being Australian health insurance isn't such a major focus, free medical when home is just a given. So I would be looking at travel insurance more. Do you guys have travel insurance for those 'just in case' moments? Lost bags, stolen documents, cancelled flights, loss of income, sickness or (goodness forbid) death when getting to your home country is required. I would feel uncomfortable not having something in place in case of one of these eventualities.. what do you do?
Tax payers money
@@davidhosking436Some people's countries of citizenship hold their hands out for taxes even when their citizens live abroad...the USA being a notable example
Wouldn't u need a US address to use the ACA? How can u do that iur overseas year round?
you have to keep a usa address no matter what if you go live abroad or just travel extensively abroad... that is for banking, investing etc...people use their kids' addresses if they have grown kids, or parents', or best friends'... it's a big hassle and a big stress for anybody that moved outside the usa (cause you still need to use the banking system, 401Ks etc)
Never mind previous question you’re not old enough for Medicare yet but I wonder how that work if you’re 65?
Use Medicare in the US only. If you don’t take it you get hit with steep penalties when you try to get it after 65. You still need expat insurance.
Medicare doesn't cover you outside the U.S. (and probably territories)
What has been your experience with filing a claim with Medshare?
We never filed one. We recently switched to the IMG insurance.
I did a quote on img & it is significantly more than chm. Why did you switch?
Do you guys keep Medicare since your are still US citizens?
They’re not old enough for Medicare
Can recommend a reputable health insurance please
I am an Australian
Lots of people use IMG global
What the heck is wrong with usa Healthcare? Why do expensive?! 240$ for full body in malaysia? That's unreal in usa
