Awesome..my Grandmother is from Sicily and she came over here to marry my Grandfather who was from Lacedonia, Avellino, Campania. Now I know what she must have gone through to come to America. Thank you for making this film. How you have honored your Mother and Father.
I love the Scorsese family. It's like listening to my family in New York years ago around the table, just like this. Great memories, Martin! I love your work!
I CAN WATCH THIS DOCUMENTARY OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND NEVER GET TRIED OF WATCHING MR . MRS. SCORSESE .WHAT A BLESSED MARRIAGE. AND WHAT A MAGNIFICENT AND HUMORIST, LOVELY COUPLE THEY ARE . THEY SET AN EXAMPLE FOR ALL PEOPLE'S . AND I 👏👏👏👏👏 YOU . GOTTA LOVE THEM SICILIAN 💋 ❤ I KNOW ONE THING ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS 🎅 IS A MRS. SCORSESE RECIPE BOOK. BUT WHERE CAN I BUY ONE ???? R.I.P. CATHRINE AND CHARLES .YOU ARE SURELY MISS AND LOVE 💖 TONI TOMATOE SAUCE FROM BROOKLYN. 🍕🍕🍕🍕
oh my gosh! these two talk EXACTLY like my Grandmother and her siblings, minus the NY accents. SO funny. That generation were like little gems, all of them. Such beautiful people. They got to experience such a specific time in the Italian American experience. Thank goodness Martin Scorsese had the mind to record them. They represent an era that is truly gone forever!
What an amazing documentary. Marty looks like his father but seems like a mix of his father's sly but passionate story and his mother's loquacity. Thanks for sharing.
If they were speaking Spanish they would pass as Puerto Ricans. The way they banter and the storytelling sounds like any Puerto Rican grandparents, in New York or the island. Remembering on the hard times but highlighting the joys its so identifiable of their generation. It's such a great documentary, priceless.
Wonderful. I've enjoyed every minute. Besides being an authentic source of the Italian American experience in NY, it's also a great lesson of documentary cinema. I don't know how much editing Scorsese did, but it's been a brilliant idea to include the "making of" sections, blurring the line between what's scripted and what's not. His parents look so natural.
His name was martin but lots of ppl called him phillip. I dont know why. Stuff like that you cant write, its impossible to write lines that good, it has to be real and genuine. Thanks for uploading, loved it.
There is something about the older generation of people, inparticular those from certain parts of southern and eastern europe, who had a great ability to tell stories. I guess there was a bigger sense of exteneded family and togetherness back then and telling stories was a large part of family bonding. Sadly it is becoming a lost art today amongst the new generations. Possibly because the role of new and fast interactive media has detached the individual from the family.
I now live in Eastern Europe and know so many families that still are like this. They are Romanian and Hungarian and I am an Italian American, but the dinnertime, stories and togetherness are still there as in days of old.
It's his movies like IA that set Scorsese apart from his movie brat brothers, his humanity, but more, the insight to capture this extremely valuable information. My g-parents came over on a boat too - from Japan - separately. My g-ma was a mail order bride, I think about 18, didn't speak a lick of the King's English. Went on to have 8 kidss, almost 30 g-kids, helped settle down California after WW2... my uncs were in the 442nd infantry, liberated Jews in Italy... WHAT A GENERATION, "The Greatest" as Brokaw christened them, and it's no joke. Was just telling my gf that it's a crime the digital world missed them, I'd KILL for the ability to have recorded my g-ma, but it makes me appreciate what Marty's done here all the more. Got to meet him once - I'm from LA, real Angelenos of a certain age, we notice but don't get starstruck, what with Hollywood in our back pocket. But that time, I was tongue-tied, which is a feat, just ask my gf. Marty, you're not a wise guy, but you sure are a nice guy! Salud!
Ha!!! She said gravy and macaroni! I thought only Philadelphian Italians such as myself said gravy and macaroni instead of sauce and pasta. Now I don't feel so crazy after all these years!
Love good fellows.cathrene she made food for the cast.and crew and she had a cookbook as well she.was very nice lady good people martin had great parents sad that they are no longer here with us up the irons maiden manic🎶🇬🇧🇬🇧🎸🎸🤘🎵🎵🎵
WOW this was mesmorisingI couldnt take my eyes away. At first I wasnt sure if it was real or something fake. The culture that is presented as the steriotypical AmericanItalian culture is actual quite accurate. It really is the way they say it is. It seemed familiar to me even tho I dont really know anything about the culture I recognised it from portrayals. Great documentary. I wish it went on more. We've lost all this stuff, there wont be much documentation I believe this be valuable in future.
His mother is a fantastic story teller. I could listen to her all day.
"My father's name was Martin but they call him Phillip " omg I laughed so hard that was classic!!!!
It has to do with the name of the saint on whose day you were born. They forgot so much, coming to America.
Martin is eating dinner during this scene. Talk about a relaxed and confident director! He is at home in more ways than one.

Reminds me of my Sicilian Grandparents, how I miss them and theses times dearly. What happend to the world the last 30 years
I love the Scorsese family. It's like listening to my family in New York years ago around the table, just like this. Great memories, Martin! I love your work!
The simple things in life are the best
They are his parents, but it's incredible how much Martin looks like them now!
She is a👌😌 real mother's mother. Love her to bits. I would have called her mother myself if I had met her❤
Gotta love Mr and Mrs Scorsese.
Mrs Scorsese reminds me of my Nan.
A great raconteuse, and a powerfully magnetic presence.

I love his mother, she reminds me of a very close friend's mother who has gone now. She was like a mother to me.
Beautiful stories from an adorable lady, & terrific man, RIP Catherine & Charles.
What an amazing documentary. Marty looks like his father but seems like a mix of his father's sly but passionate story and his mother's loquacity. Thanks for sharing.

How the hell could you dislike this?
Ha!!! She said gravy and macaroni!
I thought only Philadelphian Italians such as myself said gravy and macaroni instead of sauce and pasta. Now I don't feel so crazy after all these years!
I remember one time, we had a fig tree...I died! We all had a fig tree in the backyard. And that was that!
This is my parents, they are such lovable and charasmatic personalities.
