I watched this and felt like I was at home in New York with my Italian family. Loved this!!! What wonderful people. Just darling!!! Reminded me of my grandmother, who I loved very much
Oh my goodness i love this!! I wish i was born into an Italian family. Growing up in Jersey I stayed at my Italian friend's home. I love how close Italian family are and their great interactions!!
This film makes me sad and happy that I had Italian grandparents, gone now. But my childhood memory of the accents, the stories, the good, the days. A kuppaah coffeee for uh dime!
This was a very nice video, brings back memories of my growing up in an Italian neighborhood and my admiration for all the influence of the special Italian people in my life over the years.
I haven't seen this in years. SO great. I also learned to put a little cold sauce in the meatball mix. I'm watching this now as my sauce is going. Catherine also wrote a very hard to find small cookbook that came with stories like you see here.
It "pulls you back in" from the first moments. I especially love the way SHE'S directing HIM ...meanwhile he'd recently finished making the brilliant Mean Streets. What an engaging woman and certainly not shy of the camera. Dad warms up after a while. An absolutely wonderful gem with lovely insights into a family's social history. Thanks for posting.
I was ten in 1974 Italians make.fantastic food iam not Italian but love Italian food I grew up in new jersey.and.was.this.italian.resturant and they made the best Italian food and made by real.italians.the pizzas.where fantastic.the.best food that I ever ate and.that.was.over forty years ago up the irons maiden manic🎵🎵🤘🎸🎸🇬🇧🇬🇧🎶🎶
@jackofclubz Absolutely. Also look out for her in 'The Godfather: Part III' (1990). Catherine Scorsese and Ida Bernardini plays two elderly women who ask Vincent Mancini (Andy Garcia) to rid the neighbourhood of Joey Zasa (Joe Mantegna). Great scene.
After ten years of marriage, I’m sitting with my wife, and I already don’t have much to say to her. To which she says, (I kid you not, just like Mrs.Scorsese,) “Just talk to me!” Sheesh!
@topmoviemafia ... pls hav some respect for the great director ... its in every family ... n he has shown it without hesitation or shame ... thts y he is called an artist
I miss my family. Only the few oldschool is left. youngest just turned 90 (my grandmother) Aunt Tess is 97. I wish I was brought up back east to be closer to my family. Past is drifting away. Our family isn't the same since life moves forward. I watch these videos and get teary eyed. Today people don't have the family connection.
Exploitation? The documentary was made in 1974, in their apartment on Elizabeth St., just after Scorsese finished his first film as writer and director, long before his ascent.
What a gem! Anyone from that generation can appreciate the banter between husband and wife!
What a lovable pair of human beings.
Catherine Scorsese was a terrific lady! RIP, signora.
I watched this and felt like I was at home in New York with my Italian family. Loved this!!! What wonderful people. Just darling!!! Reminded me of my grandmother, who I loved very much
The plastic on the furniture. Classic Itlaians

+DAttGuy 87 My Irish grandparents did the same in Scotland.
My aunt did they same and we're hispanic.
+Onlylettuce92 I'm putting plastic on my sofa right now, and i'm in the Caribbean. Everyone should do it, it gives the living room a certain look
Irish people have more similitaries with the italians than english people.
"Heey Vinnie Don't Put Too Much Onions In The Sauce"
I Didnt Put To Much Onions In The Sauce!!!
I can't, LOL the plastic on the couch. Love this.
Plastic cover on sofa, this shit always cracks me up.😂😂😂
Oh my goodness i love this!! I wish i was born into an Italian family. Growing up in Jersey I stayed at my Italian friend's home. I love how close Italian family are and their great interactions!!
"They say as you get older your love grows stronger, right, Daddy? He's bashful" I just adore Catherine Scorsese. Rest In Peace, Mama.
Mama Scorsese is great! From Amsterdam
This film makes me sad and happy that I had Italian grandparents, gone now. But my childhood memory of the accents, the stories, the good, the days. A kuppaah coffeee for uh dime!
I love how you can see both sides of Martin in his parents.
What do you want me to say, that my wife two times me?
+lanlodger Shut up, your always talking...
To say I love this film is an understatement. Thanks for posting this. I could watch it weekly and never get tired of it.
I love this film. Thank you very much for uploading all the parts of it.
Oh my gosh!!! Edith and Archie......the Italian version! This reminds me so much of my grandparents. Man I miss them. Thank you for posting this!
She's feistier than Edith, though, and he's not caustic like Archie.
This was a very nice video, brings back memories of my growing up in an Italian neighborhood and my admiration for all the influence of the special Italian people in my life over the years.
martin's parents are great. loved the documentary :)
I would've loved to have dinner in this house.
Lovely piece of footage. It's almost like scene from one of his films. His parents are such characters.

"Vinny, don't put too many onions in the sauce" - Big Paulie to Vinny played by Martin's father in Goodfellas
Fantastic. Loved this. I was 18 in 1974.
omg! I have been looking everywhere for this. I have the catherine scorsese cookbook (hard to find too) and they mention this. Thank You!
I haven't seen this in years. SO great. I also learned to put a little cold sauce in the meatball mix. I'm watching this now as my sauce is going. Catherine also wrote a very hard to find small cookbook that came with stories like you see here.

LMAOOO @ 9:48.. Marty's dad sarcastically repeating his wife "You thought they were great?!" referring to the nude statues.. loll they're hilarious
Omg the plastic furniture and that horrible wallpaper..brings back so much memories lol
Yes !! She also played in Casino and many more movies !
Mrs. Scorsese is so adorable in this interview.
Sweet lady. Lots of respect.
Anyhow... The man has been surrounded by storytellers... Who have a beautiful poetry to their speech.
The most charming film ever made
I love the Scorsese's stories!

Those parents are the most charming couple I think I've ever seen.
Why don't ya ask me the question?- love her!
I always got kick out of people talk and say “see”. After sentences. Cracks me up
@jackofclubz Absolutely.
His Father says "see" in between sentences too...
Oh my god! This like a scene from GoodFellas! Thier influance on him is very clear!
Ohh Yea dats da Flava. On a side note I love how he just decides on an answer instead of explaining that it doesn't matter. I do that
I know it's available on VHS My Italian professor has it. But I doubt it's on DVD... You could always transfer it, though...
After ten years of marriage, I’m sitting with my wife, and I already don’t have much to say to her. To which she says, (I kid you not, just like Mrs.Scorsese,) “Just talk to me!” Sheesh!
"One dog goes one way and the other dog goes the other way"
What he was saying at 7:25 is pretty funny when you consider he was doing the cooking in Goodfellas. I wonder if MS did that as an in-joke.
Italian-American🇺🇸🇮🇹
wow this is great. 'What can you say to someone after being with them over 40 years.'
Any idea of the music used? Impossible to see it in the credits...
I like that. one dog goes one way one dog goes da otha
💖
These two are exactly like my grandparents
"Ma its a sin"
Thats really how it is hahaha. My best friends Italian-American and I'm German-American and his family is just like that. hahaha
Martin sounds just like Pacino.
She's just like my nan God rest her.
Marty's father was in Raging Bull in that scene when deNiro knocked a guy out
I wish I could have been invited for dinner over at the Scorsese's!!! Could you have imagined the great conversations???
Is it just me or does it seem like she didn't change one bit between this film and her cameo in Casino? ;)
Omg. I thought first guy was scorsese. That freaked me out!
Does anybody know if there's a copy of this on DVD? I would love to own it!
Of course, Mrs. Scorsese got more form her Mother In-law. Martin's Nona S. did not want her son to starve.
I'm from an Irish family but they kind of have the same warmth as the Irish.
"extra! extra! and you buy the paper and there was nothin' in the paper...." lmao. This is pure old school gold. I love it.
What's the song in the intro?
the dad sounds like Jr on Sopranos
one bite everybody knows the rules
Plastic covering the sofa is omnipresent in Italo American homes. You never know when someone is going to pee on themselves.
me imagino que son personajes de una pelicula, que son los padres de un importante ganster italiano
@topmoviemafia ... pls hav some respect for the great director ... its in every family ... n he has shown it without hesitation or shame ... thts y he is called an artist

The father sounds just like Lou Costello to me. :)

so Italian. My grandpa didnt lift a finger after work. Same attitude
This is not the full documentary. It ends with Scorses's mother's Italian sauce recipe.
martin scorsese is only 32 here! basically a kid! 😃😃
Famous people's parents are often more entertaining.
