I know one of the things you don't want to do is tell a person he's doing a good job job when he's slacking but you also don't want to beat down a person when he's working his butt off. I think you need a combination of both, which I think chris Saber does. Lmao, I can't imagine constantly getting yelled at the whole time. I'm sure most of it is more of pushing you.

The turnaround Nick Saban made as soon as he went to Alabama was probably one of the biggest and most consistent in the history of sports. Alabama was a mediocre program my whole life until Saban came. Won a championship in his third year there, then was the favorite basically every year since then.

That's why college coaches don't often translate well to the NFL. In college, they can be a dictator. Do what I say or you're off the team. In the NFL, every single player makes more than you, even most of the people who don't start. They have contracts so you can't just cut them half the time. There's ownership and GMs who want to keep that player even when the coach doesn't. You just can't be a dictator/micromanager in the NFL. At least not as the coach. It's easier as the owner but even then it backfires. i.e.Jerry Jones.
Makes sense why the patriots had such a run. Obviously Brady has a lot to do with it but even he admits that because he chose to take that type of treatment on the chin from Belichick it resonated w other players and they all bought in and was a huge reason they won multiple chips cause no one was above the coaching and criticism that it really takes to make people better players. This type of behavior might not be “appropriate” but it’s effective and it demands results, often winning ones.
Cap! They can definitely cut you whenever. Only a small handful of players have that level of immunity. They don’t want to pay you dead cap space, so they’ll just *not* start &/or play you if you get uppity/underperform. That way, the front office will see you as trash and get rid of you. Contract or no contract. Those players likely wont be able to afford the lawsuit, & thus take the “L”.

That's why college coaches don't often translate well to the NFL. In college, they can be a dictator. Do what I say or you're off the team. In the NFL, every single player makes more than you, even most of the people who don't start. They have contracts so you can't just cut them half the time. There's ownership and GMs who want to keep that player even when the coach doesn't. You just can't be a dictator/micromanager in the NFL. At least not as the coach. It's easier as the owner but even then it backfires. i.e.Jerry Jones.
Makes sense why the patriots had such a run. Obviously Brady has a lot to do with it but even he admits that because he chose to take that type of treatment on the chin from Belichick it resonated w other players and they all bought in and was a huge reason they won multiple chips cause no one was above the coaching and criticism that it really takes to make people better players. This type of behavior might not be “appropriate” but it’s effective and it demands results, often winning ones.
Probably why he hates NIL so much. College kids making millions has to lead to some weird dynamics with their coaches.

Cap! They can definitely cut you whenever. Only a small handful of players have that level of immunity. They don’t want to pay you dead cap space, so they’ll just *not* start &/or play you if you get uppity/underperform. That way, the front office will see you as trash and get rid of you. Contract or no contract. Those players likely wont be able to afford the lawsuit, & thus take the “L”.
