I always wonder when did kerala become so regressive that we have to say girls need to be educated snd get a job . There was time I used to admire the ladies who would travel 2 hrs in train to Trivandrum for work and come back . My dad used to set them as example for me . Now when I see dowry cases and so , I feel terrible and think is it the same kerala that I grew up it
I came out if Kerala after marriage 38 years back. I think we females had better sense and wisdom then than now. Now the habit of reading and high thinking had dimished and the so called educated girls make an ass of themselves by showing off so much jewellery and spending more than what they can afford during their wedding. 40 years back I insisted on simple marriage so that my parents could live peacefully post retirement. My father had guided me well and gave complete freedom to choose my career. I chose a responsible jolly partner and life so far was quite entertaining. As we are in North India even our son is also not bothered about gold, dowry etc. As you correctly pointed out Kerala society has not changed, their outlook is still narrow and shallow😞

The bad side of social media has more influence than the good. Couple that with the media programming that shapes people's behaviour and attitude towards women and we get girls obsessed with nothing other than wanting to be famous and beautiful.
