Learning how to change a spare tire is one of those things you need to know before you actually have to do it. It’s not fun to be on the side of the road and be trying to learn it. In this video I’ll show you all you need to know about getting your spare tire off and back on. It’s a very simple process and can be done in less then 10 minutes. If you ever have a flat just make sure to try and get the original tire back on ASAP. The spare tire is not made to be used for long distances.

At 3:02 he turns the rod Counterclockwise to lower the spare tire. At 3:45 he says you're going to REVERSE IT and twist Counterclockwise to pull tire back up. If you reverse it, you would be turning Clockwise. Make up your mind.

Very helpful video, and thank you so much for making it short and to the point. Luckily I did not end up with a flat tire in the middle of nowhere without youtube access -- I would never be able to figure this out on my own. And to the engineers at Ford who thought this mount is a good idea - screw you!

Now that I've gone out and done this in my driveway, I have a 'tip' or two that may help some....keeping a short block of wood (2X4 six" long in the truck) which is helpful I found, getting one edge of the tire lifted once it's on the ground, so you can wiggle with apparatus at the end of the winch! An easy way to pull the tire out, is using the tire iron (under bottom of tire) and hook it to the rim, and pull the tire out! I also cut four 1/8" thick rubber pieces, which I sat on the tire in the four locations the tire hits on the frame, so any rubbing won't affect the tire once it's in place...as it IS the outside of the tire showing once it's on the truck, that gets rubbed. Again, this is up to the individual, but I found rather than using the tire iron to lower and raise the tire/winch, a 14mm socket fits the end and I have a 1/2" universal that fit's into my drill, that I can put the 14mm onto, and it lowers and lifts nicely...just don't tighten the winch too tight at the top...as I brought it within an inch, then used the tire-iron to finish the tire lifting procedure! I pulled my tire out and gave the tire a good wash! This is on my 2016 F150 XLT with 133K, but the tire is new...and oddly, a different sized tire & rim than what's on the truck! I have 275/55R 20 on the truck, and the spare is a 265/65/18 and the circumference IS a little different, but I assume it would be fine still, as a spare...but I didn't know this, as I've never had the spare down...as it's a metal rim unlike what's on the truck. Also, take the time to check the air pressure, as mine was down to 20 psi, so I put it up to 38 psi, to last for some time with any possible leakage over the years! Unsure why, but I had a heck of a time, getting the 'lock' device that plugs the bumper hole, so if your on the road with a flat, wait until you get home to put the lock in place!

I have a 2017 f-150 lariat push start and the key fob that i have doesnt have a key on it to unscrew the back part out. And im trying to lower my tire. Heres the second part my truck didnt have a jack or anything in it would i be able to use a different jack to do this or does it have to be a specific jack for the truck?

I should of seen your video FIRST. Good video. I just dropped mine to see how it works for the first time and to check the air on the tire. I took me a while to do it but the next time will be quick (hopefully I dont have too). Air pressure was like 20 lbs, washed tire and put back up. also have a extra cable lock on the tire (wrapped up lock with plastic lunch bag and zip ties - lubed lock). I didnot use or play with the jack the tk came with. I have a floor jack that I would rather use but I will test that too since all this stuff has been sitting there since 2017. Again good video and I would of saved a lot of time if I saw it first.
