I'd love for you to break down more of mateus asato's riffs and techniques. I loved your learn that lick breakdown you did of rainy days in LA. Honestly you turned me on to him and I haven't been able to stop learning his licks! Or trying at least ha. Great lesson though once again though my friend, I probably spend like 60% of my time on youtube watching your channel 😂
Love how you’re always able to analyze and boil a riff down to its essence, then build it back up. This is why I fell in love with the classical guitar style of playing in the first place, it often sounds like multiple guitars.
I've always felt this is mostly due to the tonal differences between the wound lower strings and the nylon upper strings, meaning you effectively have to treat a classical guitar as two instruments in one, especially if using orthodox classical technique where the thumb plays bass notes on the lower strings while the fingers play melody on the upper strings. If you're simply strumming full six-string chords, it tends to mask and blend the contrasting tones of the different strings.
I have tried and failed many times over the years to learn this song. After seeing you break the song down to its basic elements, and slowly build it back up to its full force, I finally understand how to play it. Within about 15 minutes I could play the song slowly (except for the solo). After an hour of practice, I can now play it at full tempo. No one has been able to do it that clearly before. Thank you. I have never once in my life thought about paying for guitar lessons, as there is so much free material Available to the public. Fleetwood Mac is blessed with two of the greatest ever: Peter Green and Lindsey Buckingham. Speaking about guitar parts who are difficult to analyse, what's going on in the rhytm guitar section of Everbody's Talkin', performed by Nilsson? Are there two players? Can you break that down in an upcoming vid? Thanx and greets from 020 :-)
I think I saw it transcribed years ago as 2 guitar parts, both playing finger-style which creates the amazing texture and subtlety of the combined guitar parts - also making it fiendishly difficult to play as a one guitar version. I find it works best in DADGAD tuning - which I think Stephen Stills uses on his solo live cover of the song on the album: Stephen Stills "Live". Can you do a whole video series about Peter Green? The sheer lack of YT videos covering his music and teaching people about his playing is a crime against the Guitar.

This to me proves that you are a true guitarist in your own right.

My favourite Fleetwood Mac song. I fell in love with it the very first time I heard it. I'm a pianist, only know the very basics of guitar playing,, never saw a video of this song, and would never have believed there's only one guitar playing if it weren't for your video. Thanks so much!
I love that you uploaded this. I just saw this. This is that song I can’t get myself to play. One year ago , after 3 months of playing every day , I was finally able to play cliffs of dover , cleanly from start to finish (at least in 4 of every 5 attempts , it sounded clean ) wich was my biggest milestone as a guitarist yet , my previous biggest milestone to that , was :Asturias by Isaac albeniz , a beautiful classical piece. After cliffs of dover I just felt like , okey throw anything at me , it might take longer Or shorter It might take many months of daily practicing , but in the end , everything is playable. Well after nearly 4 months , I gave up with the live version of big love. I don’t know what is it . But I don’t even feel like I’m making any real progress with this song man.
@Paulonbass75 Right, which is why it required two guitarists to play this when Lindsey quit. I'm not an amazing guitarist by any means, but I have played pretty casually for a long time. This most certainly is not basic. It's a lot of unintuitive complex finger work with both hands. Basic is like...Smoke on the Water. Calling this basic is just elitist bullshit.
@@danielbass1234 Talent is an inherent ability to do something well. Skill is the result of years of practice. For example, I am an *awful* singer. If I took years of lessons, I could gain a reasonable amount of skill in singing, but I would never be talented. The best of the best in any field are usually both talented and skilled.

Lindsey Buckingham is so fucking underrated. He is literally one of the best guitarists of all time. His unique picking style and tone is incredible. Big Love and Go Your Own Way have such an amazing sound and tone.
There's video someplace of the band talking about recording Go Your Own Way. They'd got it all written as a regular power ballad and it was mostly recorded then Lindsey pulled a late shift alone and came up with that amazing syncopation on the intro that defines the song. You can see their noses are out of joint a little, it must have been tough to compose alongside someone with such drive and talent.

I freaking love how your passion for the guitar comes through in how you analyze some great acoustic guitar.
love this " why is so hard to play" series. keep doing them please
Franco Felix I love it too!
Finally I can understand the "I'm so afraid" solo.
The live version is unbelievable. Thanks
Magician!
Yeah, that song gets incendiary sometimes. Here's an early example. th-cam.com/video/v5kOzGwsHXw/w-d-xo.html
Lindsey is one of my absolute favorites. His arrangements and production are incredible.
The live version of Big Love is one of my favorite songs ever. Linsdey is so underrated for his technique and skill. So glad you made a video about it!
Mine too and the tempo is genius with the overlapping drum beat . Takes me on a urgent ride on fast horse.
The first time I heard Lindsey playing this it changed my outlook on the guitar and I spent a few months learning Big Love after only playing chords for years, thanks for this awesome video!
I saw Fleetwood Mac live some time around 2015, his playing blew my mind. Such a good guitar player!
Saw Fleetwood about 10 years ago and he was the best guitarist I've seen live hands down.
Very very well done. I have been watching him play that live for many many years, and every time it gives me goosbumps. And yes, on top of doing all of that, the vocals - so POWERFUL and explosive. Thank you so much for your dedication. Great great job!
When I play it sounds like Two guitars.
Two really bad ones.
Lmao
Awesome
Im Dead! LMAO!!
Same.
Oh shit that was funny as hell! I wouldn’t even attempt to try it.
Thanx and greets from 020 :-)
Robert Corel I don’t know, you may want to add another notch, now that they’ve got Finn in the line up, too.
@@matte6352 thanks Matt, but I mean Nilsson and his song Everbody's Talkin'.
Check out the last track "Word Games" if you can find it, Stills at his finest...
@@akimbo139 thanks! I will check that out.

For years I haven't been able to wrap my brain around playing 8th notes at the same time as doing the rest. But your Big Love video is a huge reason for the progress I'm making. Thank you!
Never going back broke my heart and my confidence on my skills
@@nsh4146 Small hands shouldn't be too much of a barrier for Never Going Back Again.
I've seen it in tabbed in lots of different tunings and they make a lot of difference. In a Guitar World Acoustic interview he said it's in dropped D with a capo at the fourth fret and the chord shapes aren't too stretched.
Thanks for breaking it down, this is one of my all-time favorite guitar parts that I have listened to for years never fully understanding how it was done - until now.
My feelings exactly !! I first heard this tune as part of "The Dance". I was stunned by his virtuosity. An incredibly difficult piece to play ....all while singing with great passion. Thanks for breaking this down.
Remember watching the live version of this on 'the dance' years ago, and just being in awe of Lindsay's playing, one of my favourite live performances of all time. Amazing to see it broken down this way, brilliant job. Way beyond my ability though, maybe one day.
The album version sounds almost nothing like this version, so this video is definitely about the one from The Dance. I could listen to it on repeat all day. Jaw dropping performance
It is one of my favorite...but I can’t find the ‘song go insane’he followed with on stage that night anywhere in TH-cam 😔
4:52 I see what you did there

I'm sorry but I've never heard of that chord before... 😂
Most people are so mesmerized by Paul's playing that they missed it!

Sorry guys, but I don't get it. What's wrong hare ?
Watch 4:52 again...
Paul is putting subliminal messages in your head...
@@scottneufeld4977 nop, I don't get it
It's a mesmerizingly beautiful guitar solo that he does. Everytime I play it for someone for the first time (on CD playback) they like it, BUT when you tell them the whole song is just one man with a guitar they are blown away
This was one of the songs that inspired me to start playing years ago. Incredible.
*Witnesses god level editing*
- OK now you're just showing off
Very basic editing
Really well done and clean editing.
I love how you check all the boxes, very professional while maintaining a unique spark
This is one of my all time favorite songs. He's a freaking magician on guitar. Fleetwood Mac was one of the best concerts I ever got to see.
It seriously doesn’t even make sense sometimes. He’s so insanely good!!!
What song
@@erikawashington7718 Big Love. The song the guy is doing the video about.
Lindsey Buckingham is the most underrated guitarist of our time! There is so much talent in his playing. Even without Stevie and the band he is an incredible music stylist!
Your guitar playing and teaching style is not just about how to play guitar, it’s also about using guitar to tell interesting stories. Thank you so much
I could learn how to play like that easily in about 90 years.
lol, im not even gonna say i could learn it. period.
Well its not that hard at all, a simple fingerpicking pattern with an easy chord progression, don't mind the tempo, it would take less than 10mn.
@@Bsafe07 lol i understand its very easy for some people, like real musicians.....lol but for me, im almost 50 and very late to learning guitar...its taken me almost a year just to learn wish you here and i understand its rated as very simple to learn. so watching the lindsay buckingham song just is out of my league. but ive no doubt i would have no troubles if i had been playing guitar since i was very young.
@@Smickster01 you make a good point, our brains learn best in our first couple decades. Pink Floyd is my favorite, keep rocking. Learning new things is gonna keep you young !!
Dan Kelly either you can do it in two weeks or never
I was always mesmerized by Lindsey's playing ability and creations. One of the great underrated players of all time.
This video is like one of those movies where somebody is telling a story about a legend that happened in Mexico and you temporarily forget where you are and what you're doing. Great video and great editing 👍🏾
When I was growing up I used to hear this song echo from my parents room and I would run to see my dad playing it note for note while singing it. After he put on The Dance on VCR and it blew my mind. I really wish I picked up Lindsay's picking technique lol one of a kind song by one of a kind player
@Lucas Carvalho de Aquino Big Love (live - the dance)
Thank you. This video led me to finally getting a guitar and desperately wanting to learn more about it. Whether or not I’ll ever be able to play this song doesn’t really matter to me. Your passion and love for this is what drove me to learn. Keep it up Paul.
I've always wanted to hear a broken down explanation of this riff! thanks Paul. Magnificent!
as soon as you see fleetwood and difficult in the same sentence you already know its big love
I'll never forget when my mom played ther live recording on tv and I was just so mind blown I believe I was like 3-5 yo and I was just amazed and ever since then lindsey has been one of my most favorite guitarists hes just out of this world..also you left your the part wer he starts to flutter or flamenco playing it!!
Lindsey Buckingham is one of the must underrated guitarist ever. The videos I’ve seen of him playing this song live are almost hypnotic. Great video!
I was lucky enough to see Lindsey play it in 2015 when Fleetwood Mac came to western Australia. Sounded awesome in the stadium during his sound check and during the show!
Apart from the rain during the show..... last time I was that wet was when I saw the Genesis and Peter Gabriel Reunion Concert in 1981...
@@handyandy9x yeah, got wet as well, lol.
Great examination of a usually unappreciated technician and artist. I saw him in 69` with a band called Fritz. They backed up Traffic and Big Brother. They really sucked. But as I was walking home, there was something in my head that had never been there before. Turned out to be a kid by the name of Buckingham. Thanks, as always.
Great job on this Paul .When i was a younger man , i built my own motorcycle and drove it to Israel from the uk in the year this was released. No social media or internet then-the world an exciting, friendly place. You heard the album in every country i went through- and i went through a lot.It was a brilliant album and you paid it great respect-well done to you!
Lindsey started off at a young age on banjo and that style never left him.
yes indeed most people wander the Lindsey Buckingham finger-picking style and that's exactly what happened..
A great player, a great teacher, and excellence in a wry, subtle sense of humor. Thank you Paul!
Cheers!
What is great about your videos is the lack of arrogance. You play amazingly, but at the same time you’re just as fascinated as the rest of us at the phenomenal talent that is Lindsey Buckingham. It’s like watching a kid hear it for the first time. Thats exactly how I feel every time I listen to him.
Excellent video! 👍
This is so good. Love the video. Paul's playing is impressive, but can we all agree that Lindsey Buckingham isn't just great.. he's a genius!
I had the exact feeling you described when I first heard this song. It was when the cd was released I rushed out to buy it and could not stop playing this song over and over. When I got the dvd I could not stop watching him play this and was completely awestruck by the performance.
The way you broke this down and explained it was perfection. Thankyou!
Don't suppose you can share a full performance of the song?
Before I even clicked play I was like “Bet it’s Big Love”
Same!
Same lol
Same too.
Didn't know it, and I was looking for the name! Thank you ^^

Can you do a whole video series about Peter Green? The sheer lack of YT videos covering his music and teaching people about his playing is a crime against the Guitar.
His timing and phrasing is perfect.
I concur. Who doesn't love Green Mannalishi(sp?)? He made it look effortless. It's a shame he had such an aversion to playing in front of people, hated the commercial aspect of music. business
If you haven't, you should listen to Peter Green's work on his collaboration with Peter Bardens in "Don't Goof With a Spook".
Check out Dave Simpson's channel, a british guitarist who's a big Green fan and gave a lot of information about his playing and tone and even amp setting. Go check out his channel.
I am astounded my Lindsey's musicianship and talent, it's just amazing.
He's such an underrated guitarist.
To think he plays primarily with his fingers.
Fascinating as Mark Knopfler
Yeah most guitarists nowadays play with their feet
Lindsey is one of the best guitarists out there. It’s a shame he doesn’t get more respect
Maybe it's because he's reportedly a jackass...
Just generally, yes, but it’s an even greater shame that the members of the band he raised to superstardom don’t seem to respect him either.
I saw this when it was first released and had to share it a Lindsey Buckingham fan page on Fakebook. I don't recall if I commented here back then but it made me appreciate this channel. I've been a huge Lindsey fan since the 1st time I saw him live, July 4, 1976 at Tampa Stadium. I only know of one other guitarist that plays this as well, my son. No brag, just fact. This to me proves that you are a true guitarist in your own right.
Lindsey is an incredible artist. I've seen him play this live and he is amazing. He's pretty amazing in general, but this particular piece is just so incredible to watch him perform.
The craziest part to me is his fearlessness playing these parts live- night after night.
While singing
also watching a live concert on tv he doesn't leave the stage for almost 2 hours ! Gotta love him . Wales UK.
My favourite Fleetwood Mac song. I fell in love with it the very first time I heard it. I'm a pianist, only know the very basics of guitar playing,, never saw a video of this song, and would never have believed there's only one guitar playing if it weren't for your video. Thanks so much!
His editing is adorable for these videos
Same thing with “never going back again”
Ties That’s less of a mindfuck to play 😂
Aidan Millward
Nah never going back is harder
I clicked thinking that's what it would be. That song rules.
Yeah when I clicked on this I figured it was about that one
at first its intimidating but if you are not a complete beginner you get it in a week
After cliffs of dover I just felt like , okey throw anything at me , it might take longer
Or shorter
It might take many months of daily practicing , but in the end , everything is playable.
Well after nearly 4 months , I gave up with the live version of big love.
I don’t know what is it . But I don’t even feel like I’m making any real progress with this song man.
Jesus Christ, some people are just absurdly talented.
Talent is the end result of years and many hours of steady and regular focused practice ! It is a Beautiful Thing !
Your comment should have started with 'because of'
@@ianjones2731 As I am not religious, I disagree :)

Lindsey has fascinated me for a long time. His playing is exceptional. Thank you for this insight showcasing his talent, you're not too bad yourself Paul, thanks for what you do
Buckingham's playing on this song is only rivaled by his vocals on this song.
I am so sorry but i don't know the song... Can you please tell me the name?

Paul, please do a video on "Never Going Back Again", one of Buckingham's most challenging guitar creations.

Yeah that's what I thought this video would be about. I'd really love to learn how to play that one!

Very underrated because he was not a show off. When he joined he took them from underground blues band to a household name. No not Stevie Nicks but him.
This type of content is worthy of an entire Netflix series. It is magical.
Fastest I’ve ever clicked a notification I believe
The first time I saw him do "Big Love" live I yelled out loud "That's Impossible!"
My brother was OBSESSED with this on guitar for ages. Watching him play it was like when I first started watching ice hockey, my eyes could not keep up.
Lindsay Buckingham is one of the most underrated guitarists in music today. He has many crazy riffs, sometimes playing two parts on the guitar against himself at the same time.
God, you are a beautiful player. I appreciate that you pick these amazing riffs that don't appear commonly on any platform.
Thanks man!
Beautiful!
The ending kinda gave me vibes of "The song of the golden dragon" by Estas Tonne.
"I'm so afraid" is the best song that Lindsey plays, and I honestly don't know how he does it. "Big love" is okay, but "I'm so afraid" is truly a masterpiece
Live especially
He just use a banjo picking technics on a guitar but the rest is pretty easy to get with a bit of motivation
Agreed, “Big Love” is killer, but “I’m so afraid” (the live version from The Dance) is on another level.
Agreed!
