In our bike shop, we use license plate bolts with a bright led in the two top bolts. They look similar to a round style acorn bolt are inexpensive and durable.
So cool to see you working on the Defender. I've got a few 110's here in SLC. Yeah, parts are a joke in pricing. I've resorted to modding a lot of Jeep CJ and JK parts for mine. Also, concerning that upper air inlet on the hood, one side is blanked (covered) and the other allows air in, depending on if yours is LHD or RHD. I obviously bought the wrong part. Ended up cutting up a piece of a stainless strainer I got from IKEA. $8.00 and some fab work later and I think it looks better than most.

Completely agree on the $$$ issue. Nice to see Ian hold true to the principle value of "if it costs a friggin arm and a leg for something...you damn well better make sure the thing is perfect", which in this case it is not. But it is not his money to spend (customer gets to do that) so build away and have a blast. I just got to the part where Ian mentions where the Vehicle is going...Nantucket...MMM no comment on the cost of the build now. 🙄

I am building a buggie for crawling. I am using a 1.9 tdi with a 700r4 and a midnight metalworks transfer case. My question is, is there anything special I need for my auto trans so that at extreme angles I won’t loose fluid pickup in the trans? Thanks for you time. I enjoy your informative videos.
Land Rovers do seem to be pricey. I was actually wondering the other day what happened to that cab over Isuzu or GMC truck you were swapping a F450 front axle under to build a Dakar kind of truck. I think the last episode I saw you had gotten the 4wd front axle installed.
There is plenty about that truck that has been modified from the Land Rover original product. I suspect a frame lift is just part of the story. Thats why you have the gap at the bulkhead to fender. Rear tub is highly non original. Get the Standard Land Rover LED Number plate light.

@BigTireGarage totally agree with all of that, but still confused why he wants to retrofit it to look similar to the new gen. Definitely regret not getting my hands on one of the older ones when they were 15-25k 15 years ago. Now they are 60k plus, without additions, while a slightly used 90 is 67k and a 110 for as low as 57k.
@BigTireGarage and all of fancy gadgets will also be malfunctioning. It's just tough justifying the price most 80s/90s Defenders are running right now. Most are at or over 100k. If only I could go back 15-20 years ago 😂

They'll never be as cheap as Jeeps in the states just because there are far fewer, but this specific issue was down to the owner and his choices. Those parts were more of the 'bling' flavor than functional flavor and sadly there is a certain segment of the population who seems to equate more expensive with better. You can find it in every brand - you can't say you haven't seen ridiculously overpriced Jeep parts and thought 'who would buy that?' only to see some mall crawler throw money at them just so he can be 'unique' or as some sort of status display (look how I have such expensive stuff!).

@@andicog I always check LR Direct when buying Rover specific stuff. They usually have good prices and tiered options from Britpart to OEM to Genuine Rover badged stuff. For a while when they were trying to get more of a foothold in the US market even with shipping they were the best prices. These days it's only worth it on higher dollar stuff. And they usually get things to me in California faster than the companies on the east coast!
Fuck me... Coulda made those vents n stuff for $1k out of aluminum on a CNC mill... And $50 for the metal screen... As for the rear seats, full bench seats that wrap around those corners, then smaller bench seat all the way in back over the top of the tub.
Landover have many problems with reliability, working on them it is almost guaranteed. The head gaskets will fail and the air ride suspension. I like the body styles but I would swap out the engine, wiring harness ans suspension then it would be a reliable offroad vehicle.

I be damned if I would pay $3000 for a bunch of plastic when you can get them 3D printed out of the same material for a fraction of the cost and the worst part is if it's not made from good plastic then over time in the weather and sun it's going to make that plastic brittle and break and everything else the sun and rain do to plastic unless he plans on keeping that thing in the garage and the car trailer and just haul it to shows since he is going as far as buying a brand new aftermarket body and putting all brand new parts on it including a brand new plastic set that cost $3000 😂😂😅

This is sitting on a Jeep JK frame and is an aftermarket body so it really isn't a Defender
