    i like that background, the witherbloom student can be revamped/skinned into something like a shaman background, where a undead warlock or necromancer wizard could use to flavor their role play potential even if you dont get the feat the expanded spell list is truly good for all of them.

    Liliana doesn't have amnesia shes in hiding, running away from her past and the events of the war of the spark where she was about to die as her final sacrifice and act of redemption as she turned on nicol bolas but Gideon had sacrificed himself to save her from here sacrifice, which had really messed with her

    I think you are the first person that I have ever heard referring to druids as fragile.
    I've always heard that they were one of the heartiest Full-caster classes and annoying for most DMs to keep down. Can you explain?

    • @RichMerry
      @RichMerry  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Compared to martial classes, clerics and hybrid classes they are fragile. No metal armour can be a challenge to overcome but when they finally get a stronger wild shape at level 4 and 6 it helps a little bit with the HP pool. If you compare them to wizards or sorcerers they are more sturdy but thats just two classes out of 14.

    I can imagine a build I'd use for this, I'd go Moon Druid for 5 to 10 levels and then dip one level of Witherbloom Warlock.
    The Warlock level would give access to Armor of Agathys and one other spell (Most likely Hellish Rebuke) as well as Inflict Wounds and Spare the Dying. AoA would boost the effectiveness of your wildshapes in melee, HR would give you something new to use your reaction on and Inflict Wounds will be helpful if you own a familiar or have Tasha's druid familiar feature.
    Essence Tap is basically an improved version of Combat Wildshapes healing and the level 6 Druid ability to deal magical damage with their claws. Turning all damage you deal either with spell or claw into necrotic that can't be resisted is a massive boon, and using your hit die + spell modifier is much more effective than just 1d8 per spell level. At least you will have an option to not waste resources.
    My question is this: if you are in wildshape and use Overgrowth; can you use the beasts Hit Die or your own?

    • @RichMerry
      @RichMerry  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure about the ruling with regards to wildshape and overgrowth to be honest. You might have to ask one of the developers on twitter.

    Withebloom can also be a nice artificers subclass. Considering they are all about brewing potions and posions, but I guess they need to all properly fit into the level tiers. Otherwise we would see cleric class in there too.

    I've been on the wiki pages for a while now, you know... there's witherbloom as a class, but there's also witherbloom initiate as a background... very similar but different, maybe picking a different class and this as a background might solve some of your problems

    Currently building a Bladelock with Witherbloom Pact, multi in to Kensei Monk also to make, effectively, a terrifying melee death dealer.

    IMHO witherbloom would have been amazing for the wizard (healing wizards are always strong), but since it's only warlock and druid, it kinda falls out, I'd rank it as the second worst out of the 5 UA strixhaven subclasses, only better than the prismari.
    I particularly dislike that essence tap overgrowth is a hit die based heal, meaning you eat your short rest resource for that, and you only regain half the hit dies per long rest, so it feels weird to use that for anything else. Too limited of a resource. Also withering strikes is really strong, but I don't see it as game breaking - I don't know if I'm not seeing something.
    The brews are really really cool, but they are straight up magical items that cost an action to use, so they are better out of combat. At least you get multiple potions AND you choose which one you get, unlike the alchemist artificer.
    I'd actually make a melee range druid focused on melee spell attacks with this subclass - get that vampiric touch upcasted and get feats like tough and war caster or resilient or eldritch adept (eldritch mind) - together with maybe a human variant or hill dwarf.

    • @TheApolloOnTheMoon
      @TheApolloOnTheMoon 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dunno man, with the new Tasha's feat for Druids to be able to use wildshape to cast Find Familiar, all of a sudden the Druid is VERY powerful with the additional healing and buffing. Having summons out too, Witherbloom Druid seems VERY strong.

    • @dilsoncamacho4100
      @dilsoncamacho4100 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheApolloOnTheMoon What ? how is having a familiar or summons good with this subclass ?
      It doesn't add anything special to pets - the whole subclass is dedicated to blasting with necrotic damage and healing a bit more (but it's a bit heavy on action economy).
      Base druids that want to use pets are better off using shepherd or wildfire.

      In the MTG setting the mechanics of Withebloom where focused on making lots of pests and sacraficing them for abilites/lifegain. The D&D setting could lend itself to a Mechanic of destroying summons for extra abilites/more powerfull spells, but like you stated they have opted for a more damage dealer archtype with a splash of healing. Hopefully there will be some changes from the UA to the printed book, because they do need some balancing.
