    Interesting comparison. Not to get too nerdy, but I would point out that decibels are logarithmic. So a 10 decibel difference between two vanes means the louder one is 10 times louder. 20 db is 100x louder. I think the biggest spread you recorded was 17 db, so that's quite a bit in absolute terms.

      Talk to pewscience, he's the most knowledgeable man to talk about sound but he's focused on rifle and pistol suppressors mostly. Would love to hear his opinion on these@@extremeoutfitters

    I shoot heat vanes in a 4 fletch with a slight right helical, absolutely love that setup!

    Im torn between tac drivers and max stealths. Love how quiet drivers are but stealth adhere way easier and put out a nicer helical. I love mine looking like some boat propellers 🤷‍♂️
    Great video 👌

      I got those tac vanes looking like propellers too. We should have gotten a closeup of the arrows maybe. Biggest thing with the tac vanes is to make sure they are primed and take your time. They really are a great vane. It is hard to beat the max stealths tho

      @jroutdooradventures Yeah, I'm a fan boy of both. They're both great vanes. I'll take the advice and have to take a little more time with the tac vanes to get them just right how I like.

    Please do an out outsert/collar/sleeve durability test. Easton has several in .204 as well as Victory, Iron Will, and Sirius.

      I do some of that for fun, but at 80# there's not a lot that survive lol. You'd really need to pick a draw weight category for it to be fair.

    I've done some downrange Heat Vane tests and it's wild how quiet the vane is. The Max Stealth are heavy, but still one of the best overall vanes

    Hey Extreme Outfitters can you do a comprehensive video on FOC? Many people put 50 grain inserts in the front to help the FOC but does that extra weight even help? Or are you simply slowing down your arrow? And if it actually does shoot better how much better is it? Is at an actual verifiable difference? Thank you so much!

    Another video I would like to see, is the db from 20 yards of the same bow shooting a 400, 500 and 600 grain arrow. Curious how much the heavier arrows would/wouldn’t quieten the bow?

    The DCA minis might be louder but as for as accuracy goes, I find them to work best with both my fixed and mechanical grim reaper broadheads. For me, the accuracy out weighs the noise difference (plus I JUST finished making arrows with them on them!)

    Now what I would be really interested in is how does velocity correspond with DBs. For instance if you were to take the results in this video which I am assuming the arrows were close in weight and shot with 100gr points. And shoot each arrow with say a 200gr and then a 300gr point and record the DB change. I know there is all the talk about deer jumping the string but have seen deer directly under me never move when I took a shot at a deer 30 yards in the other direction with a very loud crossbow. And ever since I went heavier in my compound, which is also slower, I have seen minimal to almost no reaction from the target deer I have shot at.

      I agree. Animals don’t like to waste energy. A snap in the woods will make them look but that may be it. Add a sound headed at them and they are going to run. It’s like one of those whistling footballs coming at you. You duck on instinct. If you could launch an arrow at deer without the launcher making noise, I bet the deer would still react.

    IMO the stiffness and smoothness of the vane determines it’s noise. Surface area honestly hasn’t made a difference in my testing. I run the Heat vanes for hunting for 1. clearance 2. Steer well 3. Quiet 4. No prep required for adhesion….YMMV, but they’ve been very good vanes for me

    TAC Vanes are VERY quiet. I switched to them for this very reason. I used to use AAE Max Stealth and being a whitetail hunter I like the Max Hunter. Max Hutner perform great but are VERY loud. TAC are about the quietiest and lightest as well out there.

    Why don’t the bow shops ever push the HEAT vanes? Been shooting them for 3 yrs and they are VERY stiff & quiet. I used the Arizona EZ fletch max left helical on VAP SS Elite 1 and have had zero issues with fixed and mechanical broad heads.

    How comes these weren’t shot out of the same bow with same arrow length and all? Poundage and draw length matters when it comes to testing vanes like this. Besides that great video! I would like to see the bohning X3 3 inch vane get tested in another video

      It’s funny because I shot the heat vane and I have a higher poundage bow with more draw length as well and it is the quietest out there. Kinda proves that it really doesn’t matter as much for being different. But I do agree and I know we will do more testing for sure.

    Speed is noise and more drag Shoot heavy. Quiets bow and shot. Heavy FOC so there is less vane in the back...so less vane noise

    Just one BIG problem you don't know what a deer hears. All you are checking is decibels. What range of frequency can a deer hear that you can't hear. Kind of like a dog whistle.

    There is no way that cheap meter has a high enough sample rate for this test to mean anything.

    • @extremeoutfitters
      @extremeoutfitters  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Can you recommend a better meter option?

    • @josephr1198
      @josephr1198 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @extremeoutfitters I can not, ideally you would wand something taking samples in the 1mhz range I would think, the meters you can commonly get for around $500 from companies like B&K sample around 1khz, at that speed you would be getting a reading at every 4 inches of movement of an arrows flight path with a 300fps arrow.
      Problem with that is you wouldn't know arrow to arrow when that reading starts, you might have one arrow right next to the meter, one in front, one behind.
      Which is why 1mhz would be ideal then your taking a reading every 1/3 of an inch. But I don't know of any meter that does that. They have them, they use them to test suppressors on firearms, don't know how you would get one or hpw much they cost.

      @@josephr1198 thanks for all the info and your input. We really appreciate it. We will look a little deeper into this so that hopefully we can have some more accurate testing in the future for you guys. Thanks again.

    • @josephr1198
      @josephr1198 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @extremeoutfitters if you do continue this, it would be interesting to see what happens with a broadhead on the arrow. With some broadheads I don't think vane choice will matter big vented heads.
      But with some smaller fixed, or maybe some mechanical it might. But some mechanical have holes and are probably louder than most vanes.
