That small talk bullshit is so incredibly accurate... it is almost a horror show.
hahhaa yes!
Definitely!! I hate it specially with in laws. And my boys have ADHD so this is a reality check what others might think 🤣
Mike Palmer who are you talking to 😂
GET OFF THE DAMN SHED!!!
@ClintDempsey76 No doubt. I can't imagine the pure hell of living in the city.
This was one of Will Ferrill's own skits he performed while auditioning for the show. I'm so glad he made it!
He didn't. Eric Bogosian did.
@@Brutus0710 what
Eric Bogosian wrote and performed the Monologue "Rash" as part of a compilation in "Pounding Nails in the Floor with my Forehead" that premiered in New York a year before in 1994. The entire premise was the the same as this sketch. Guy at his grill talking about everyday life with his colleagues then suddenly snaps at his children. Eric's is longer and gets more vulgar, but the likeness is uncanny.
@@Brutus0710 So did Will Ferrell steal a joke to get on SNL?
@@grezdaed Read it yourself and decide.
This was Will Ferrell's first episode ever, and I think this might have been his first sketch. Classic! I was a fan immediately.
meowlina this was part of his audition as well
meowlina this was one of his audition skits too. On the 40th anniversary it shows Will Ferrells audition
Yep this was a very sharp transition period, this was the first episode of SNL after Sandler, Farley, and Jay Mohr had all been fired behind the scenes. This was the first show for all the performers you see here. Will Ferrell absolutely saved the show, if he hadn't come along I don't know where they would have been.
Ah! I just commented about this asking if it was his fist sketch! Nice!
meowlina really? wow 😮
"I'm gonna give you the beating of a lifetime in front of these people" always gets me rolling

@@PatrickWagz Genius Show.
They call it " chicken of the cave"
Champ Kind either
@@PatrickWagz hey Halpert. Still queer?
Will Ferrell is so good at playing that one dad that everyone was scared of as a kid😂😂
jack bauer I knew a kid with a dad like that. Dude’s name was Duncan. His dad wore a high n’ tight no matter what😂😂
😂 you wouldn't even be the one getting your ass beat and still be scared and crying
When he reached into his apron, I thought he was going to pull out a gun lol.
Haha... maybe in the 2018 version
Same lol
i thought it was gonna be his dick oops
JabberCT lovin that "A" symbol.
What is wrong with you demented people?!
The man literally never ages. He’s been 45 years old his entire life. I can’t believe he’s 28 here!
He's a vampire I mean seriously no way he's 28 here
@@sexycorndogeaterVampire? He looks 48 @ 28 lol..
Will was only 28 here but i swear he’s looked like a middle aged man his whole life lol
That can't be true....28 on each nut
Yes!!
Bahahahhahahahha so true
😂
Wow, that's amazing that his career took off here at 28
"I WILL PUNCH YOU IN THE FACE, IF YOU DON'T GET OFF THE SHED!"
jshudo44 “NOW, GET OFF SHED! GET OFF THE SHED! GET OFF THE DAMN SHED!!!”
Howling Burd19 classic Will Ferrell sketch, one of my favorites.
I read this as he said it!
Whammy!
I may be wrong here but it seems Will might want his kids off the shed. It's hard to tell with his subtle hints.
Part of what makes this so funny for me is I think we've all had this moments with our fathers in childhood. "GET OFF THE SHED!" has happened to all of us.
Dei H
Unless you're black and don't know your father
I don't think race has anything to do with it.
My dad died when I was 6, so nah...my life is sans shed talk
Also, one of the many things that makes this so funny is that you don’t actually *see* the kids on the shed; you only see the reactions of the adults xD
Mine was with my mom and it was a tree.
“Hey there’s gonna be a meeting with your ass and the palm of my hand if you don’t GET OFF the SHED!” 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
I am mesmerized by Will Ferrell flipping burgers that aren't there.
Colin Qu lmao!!
I just keep seeing that smoke by the grill and want to smell it.
D’angelos juggling routine is better
I bet you did mesmerised by bug lights too
Oh, they couldn't get actual burgers like they did for that Olympia Diner sketch? Cheap fucks.
my favorite will Ferrell episode of all time his delivery was priceless , " I will PUNCH you in the face" lmao, I love it! !!
This? Not the lovahs?
This was his first as well.
As a parent I can say I have utilized this technique...lol
When he said that I lost it 😂😂
Saw this as a kid and it was hilarious. As an adult with kids now, it's very relatable.
“I’m gonna give you the beating of a lifetime in front of these people” is such a beautiful line
Spoken by every parent to every crying child in every grocery store. Lol.
@@travis8850so true 😂
Will Ferrell looks the same from 20 years ago
New York Giants he doesn’t age
Dude has looked 40+ for over 20 years.
He has literally looked 40 years old for the last couple decades 😂
Black don't crack
So you're saying he's always looked 52?
Look, that's not nice to say, the rest of us noticed but we kept it to ourselves all these years...
(I looked it up, he's 51, I was pretty damn close ^_^)
Being threatened with a leather belt - that was life growing up in the ''70's
rijun14 Wooden spoon.
"Threatened with a leather belt?" In my upbringing, that threat was always followed up by action...painful, stinging strokes. Good means for parents to vent their anger.
when my kids get out of line, I eat one of their gold fish .... scares the shit out of them lol and they have like 15 of them so it's no big deal
rijun14 and 90s
I remember the words "go out and get me a switch"
“I’m gonna give you the beating of a lifetime in front of these people” LMAO
THANK you 🤣 This was my favourite line!
I started watching this at my office, had to stop it, I was crying.... It´s gotta be an all time classic, the way Will Ferrell´s yells escalate!!!
This and Dodge Stratus are hands-down my 2 favorite Will Ferrell sketches. 😂
Dr Beeman is a classic to me
oh my gosh, this was my childhood! my gram had a shed, and my parents were constantly yelling at us to get off it. lol
Lori Larson
Did you get punched in the face?
Liar
So why not stay off of it 😂
My grandparents used to have this old treehouse type thing in their yard, but the ladder was so old that by the time I was born (1996), that part was taken down so I had to climb up the slats on the side of it to get to the top as a kid. Then I got scared of trying to climb down so someone would have to climb up and help me. 😅
The funniest part isn't even him yelling, it's how defiant they are about getting off the shed
“Mmmmm, you smell good!” - Totally underrated line.
What does she mean
She’s just a creepy, weird swinger.
That's my pickup line. If it works, then your in for a wild night.
I need a shed.
And a fountain?
So you can say “get of the off the shed” that’s funny 😄
Then you'd be Arthur "One Shed" Jackson.
I litteraly burst in tears because of that damn shed😂
packer and carol ?!?!
Shannon L. And DeAngelo Vickers
another office fan here :)
All three of them were in The Office lol
Thank you. I swore that was Carol.
Who's the tall dark haired lady??
omg it's the character from Will's audition tape!
Poor Will. Had his dream realized with his own creation brought to SNL and it bombed. :(

Will Ferrell has always been a comedic genius!

I live this on a daily basis. Not the exact situation, but the general escalation from politeness to insistence to barely contained rage. JUST PUT ON YOUR SHOES!!
Today I learned this is Heidi Gardener's favorite SNL sketch.
FriedThrice Today I learned who Heidi Gardner is...crazy how the world works
Love that years later you see them all in the office. These Snl days were good times
This was Will’s SNL audition. He did the whole scene just by himself.
By himself? So the other people weren't there?...
1:40 when Will's face changes to angry I literally spit my wine out.
I love this skit... because it implies climbing on a shed is somehow a common thing kids do 😂
It is
I climbed on hella shit as a kid now all they do is be on their phones and tablets
He nailed what parenting is like. 😂
This is outrageously hilarious and now knowing this skit was an audition for Will, garners it priceless! As children, we would climb and jump off the shed...sooo out of control funny!!!
I remember watching it live. First time I saw Ferrell. He was the only cast member who really stood out that night. They did a complete overhaul with the cast and he nailed it.
😭😂😭😂(wall slides)When Will finally looses his shyt, takes off his belt, starts walking toward the kids talking about,"I'm going to beat you in front of these ppl!"😭😂😭😂
3:00 From nice parent to my father in just a few minutes
This was actually a sketch he did for his audition! Amazing that he got to turn it into a full sketch.
GET OFF THE SHED!!!!
Wow, I didn't realize Will Ferrell was on the show in 95'! WOW! So long ago.
Brooke Stop These were the best in the 90's!!!!
In 1995 SNL did a HUGE overhaul. I was 16 and had been watching the show since around 1986. I of course loved the Farley-Sandler era but by 1994 it had run its course. The writing had gone way downhill and SNL really did need an overhaul. I believe this was the first episode of that season and one of the first skits. I remember laughing and thinking how funny this guy was just from yelling. The entire cast was so different from the 1994 crew. It was just different humor. I think they went to more improv players and less standups. But Will came out strong in this first show. He had another skit where he was trying to get his wife off the phone and kept coming up with terrible excuses like he just killed the dog and stuff like that. I missed the old cast but Will, Cheri Oteri and the new crew really kicked ass. 1995-1998 was really strong. I've been watching SNL for over 30 years and the last few years have been so monumentally awful it's hard to even stomach. It's clear Lorne gave up after his 40th anniversary and now the show is overrun by liberal propagandists. Shame.
I guess you missed the liberal propagandists who ran the show in the 70s.
Totally remember that. As good as Farley crew was that was a tough hour and half to watch. For every gold skit there was 3-5 really bad ones around it. The overall was needed and it worked.
Wasn't that long ago. You'll understand pretty soon.
😂😂😂😂😂 The way that the neighbors were pleading for the children to avoid that beat down!!! 😂😂😂😂😂
this was my first Will Ferrell experience.
Danny Peck Brother?
"I WILL PUNCH YOU IN THE FACE IF YOU DON'T GET OFF THE SHED! NOW GET OFF THE SHED!!"
It makes me mad when my children force me to act like a maniac especially in front of people. Making this incredibly funny and accurate.
THIS ACTUALLY JUST HAPPENED TO ME. I'm at work trying to help a woman on the phone and she is so normal and then srarts screaming at her son. Then back to sweet and normal. This sketch immediately came to my mind
Will Ferrell is the LeBron James of SNL cast members. He's just a genetic freak.
Bryan Taylor and chris Farley was Michael Jordan
Jerry, more like Odom.
But seriously, we all like Farley, but we're not delusional to think he is the best ever.
Bryan Taylor Adam Sandler is Jordan the real goat
Eddie Murphy is Jordan he literally saved the show. No snl after 1980 without him.
Steve Martin is the Larry Bird of SNL. Just all around legend
3:25 Those glasses are still full of wine! How the hell is she going to "freshen up" those drinks?
I remember when this was live. I'm old now.
Still is live...
This is the longest time Todd Packer has ever gone without sexually harassing someone or violating HR conduct codes ever in his life
Ferrell's audition video brought me here.
😅😅 when they feel scared for the kids and shouted too.
"Is John here yet?"
Yeah, he's standing right next to you.

Will Farrell was, is, and will forever be an international TREASURE
"Spank you so much for having us over..." Hah, wonder if it was a bet!
blueribenaberry I wondered if anyone else noticed that
Pretty sure she says thank, not spank.
100% says Thank you
I hear it bro mindblown 😂
Such a mind mash to see Todd Packer with Micheal’s Scott real life wife 😂😩
Mariel Hemingway aggressivly smelling that woman is the funniest shit in the world to me
Homo erotica 😅
Sounds like me when dealing with children except that I usually lose patience after the second "Please GTF OFF the shed".
What’s wrong with being on the shed, anyway? 😂
YOU'RE ON IT, THAT'S THE PROBLEM
NOW GET OFF!!!!
I'd imagine because they don't want their kids to fall off and get hurt.
Man the good old days of SNL. I was a Will Ferrell fan ever since this sketch. Classic
"Mmmmmm, you smell good!" So many levels of weird in this funny sketch.
Be a buddy and get off the shed
This was Will’s original idea too. He did a version of this during his audition. They loved it so much they wrote it onto the show.
My parents right here: always more focus on how their kids could put them into shame not realizing who was acting out.
Todd Packer, Carol and Deangelo Vickers from the office all in the same skit!
In his audition he says "if you don't get off the shed I'ma shove this spatula in orifices you didn't know you had"
Anybody who has tried to have a phone conversation with another adult who couldn’t stop yelling at their kids in the background can relate to this sketch! 😂
I actually did and I couldn’t stop laughing 😂😂
Will is a legend.
omg I remember seeing this when it first aired when I was a little kid, my brother and I were laughing so hard we almost died of asphyxiation
The burger train just pulled into bun station.
One of the first skits I ever saw Will in. Fucking brilliant. Laughed my ass off back then and I laughed it off now.
If he was as violent as he was acting those kids wouldn't have even considered staying on that shed. Calling it, empty threat lol (yes I know it was a sketch)
i dont know what is missing, maybe more cowbell..
what do you mean maybe
The perfect cheer.
As a parent of four children I can kind of relate to the feeling
This is my grandpa and my cousin Ray, including the beating that followed! So funny! Brings back memories!
funny cause his 5th warning would have been my dad's first. lol
I grew up in the 80s...kinda the same, except Dad would just beat the fuck out of me before I ever saw the shed. But the undercurrent of violence is familiar.
“GET ON THE BAG BRANDON”
This was described to me before I saw it, and I still snorted drink through my nose. :-D
Will Ferrell is friendly and congenial, but underneath is a seething rage monster. This comprises a large portion of his SNL work, and was hilarious every time.
This is my favorite Saturday Night Live skit! Followed by Chris Farley at Sea World with George Clooney. LOL! Will's syllable breakdown of "Get off the shed" is perfect! LOL! Comedic timing at its best!
Its frustrating when you're the only adult trying to parent
this is literally me when my kids are throwing crap in the house(except the belt) but my dad on the other hand...
If any of you see a tool shed, don't go near it!
Kids don't listen
i suddenly feel the need for burgers and to get my ass off of this shed
Replace “get off the shed!” with “go to bed!” and you have my wife reasoning with the kids every night
When she smelled her I lost it. Lmao
corny suburban chit chat and cornball humor.....GET. OFF. THE.DAMM SHED!!!!😂😂😂😂😂
Pamm Meee get on the bag
How many times did he tell them bad ass kids to get off the damn shed?!😄😁😆
The SNL audition is so much funnier!
It's much more fluid and natural

I also missed his "Get that potato salad away from me" line.
I think that’s just because there wasn’t any dialogue and it was just will and he could set his pace
🤣🤣Classic Will Ferrell. Hilarious
Wow Nancy Walls is really beautiful, and so is Hemmingway. I didn't appreciate that as a kid.
I actually think Hemingway smelling her is the best moment.
