I put these in just about every guitar I build, no matter what style. I love them so much - and you just made me love them even more. I'm not sure I've ever heard a 3b3-01 sound better than that - and I've installed TONS of them. You simply cannot go wrong with Free-Way Switches - and the Strat and Tele switches are actually WAY easier to install than one of the "regular" Strat/Tele switches. Just a fantastic product.
Agreed! I see no downside. Especially having a .015 resistor jumping for 1/2 out of phase as written on the Freeway Switch wiring chart that comes with it. I didn’t use 2 of the positions in the wiring until the .15 resistor was in - now it’s my favorite position, but the ability to have the original positions PLUS a position for all pickups on together full and a position for 1/2 out of phase make the Tele even more versatile! It’s like having an extra position to overdrive just a bit w/o a pedal and a position for that Strat sound that makes pickups work like a clean humbucker. I have them on all of my Fenders, Tele and Strat.
That first piece was by Nigerian musician Asa. It's called Aya daba I heard it for the first time when I was visiting friends in Nairobi, Kenya. Helen plays it beautifully!
Great demo! I was trying to consider the traditional 4-way switch with the series position, and add a push-push pot for the phase inversions, but this one comes in more handy.
Wow . I installed the 4 way switch in my Tele many years ago when I had better eyesight. It added both PUs in series but your hot rod adds two more sounds than that. Nice addition.
After seeing your video I couldn’t resist and ordered a Freeway 6 position switch for the Telecaster I am putting together. Thank you very much for the video... I subscribed to your channel as well.
I’ve had something similar with a 4 way mod and an S1 switch on the volume....sounded great in the studio on clean low volume, however live and loud it lost so much of the “tele cutting through the mix tone” and messed with pedals so bad that I had it removed......I just wanted to add, what a great soulful player this young lady is and the mod suits her style of playing.
Helen, You're making me want a Tele. I've always been a Strat guy. Those additional tones seem to be, very useful. You're a great player Helen! Keep dancing on those strings.
@@HelenIbemusic You're so right! I am a producer who works within more than one genre so, I NEED tones, I am finishing up a strat build right now. My next will almost certainly be a Telecaster, and I will include this switch mod. The Tele has always been calling me, I love them. Honestly I have no idea how I ended up with all of these Strats but, not a single Telecaster. Your video inspired me, thank you so much, Helen.
@@HelenIbemusic i just bought a tele. what year is that tele? i am looking for a pickguard like that. by the way everything about you is beautiful. your spirit your style your taste your playing your guitar. just saying. please tell me how i can get a pickguard like that. Thank You !
Hi Helen. Your personality and passion for your music is so apparent when you play. I love that you use a Tele to get such mellow tones. Ted Greene also did the same. First time I heard Ted playing a Tele and getting tones he was astounded me.
That is a beautiful looking Telecaster, great looking body and rosewood fretboard. I prefer the more modern bridge. I've got to get on these Freeway switches.
I love the Freeway switch! I have a 6 way on my Strat (it only has two pickups, a Tele bridge pickup and a Strat neck pickup) and a 10 way on my Yamaha Pacifica. My son has a 6 way on his Jackson Rhodes V. They’re great!
Some of the tones reminds me of my 1964 Baldwin guitar with the "wild dog setting etc. It's a collector's item now. It was heavy and the whammy bar was a pain.
@WF No, I have had contact with Helen and encourage her to stay on the Telecaster. I played one on stage for 25 years. She has a unique opportunity to be known as the Queen of the Telecaster just like Albert Collins was the king of the Telecaster 20 years ago.
Your such a beautiful person and can play guitar amazing. Thats pretty much the 2 best things in the world put into one package. Maybe I just Should start playing again. Its been a long time
Step 1: Get another Telecaster! This was my first decent electric guitar way back in 1980 and selling it it high on a very short list of regrets in life all these years later. Love your subtle, soulful playing, young lady. Still trying to figure out how, exactly, I degenerated (?) to death metal...
Excellent review and as usual great playing.I think its a wonderful switch as it continues the "simplicity" of the telecaster. The parallel universe gives a large number of options by having an extra pickup but makes it "less than a tele'in appearance to the purist. Have been searching for someone with a demo of two single coil pickups on a tele to give an ultra smooth bell like tone ,perhaps a project for you. Blessings to you continue your good work.
What an enjoyable vid! I've been going over the details for a 5-Way for my Strat and considered the thought for one for my Tele, and I came across this vid while searching for the details of the 6-Way. You did a great job, Helen, making sure that it was clear which pups you were using each time. And, you used a variety of timbres in each position. Thank you for all that. And, btw, you are absolutely stunningly gorgeous! ... and that DRESS too! No disrespect intended. I really couldn't refrain from mentioning it. Stunningly Gorgeous! Peace. Light. Blessings. Bounty. Joy.
1. Neck Only 3:48 2. Neck & Bridge(In Parallel, In-Phase) 4:12 3. Bridge Only 4:33 4. In Series, In-Phase 4:02 5. In Series, Out of-Phase 4:23 6. In Parellel, Out of-Phase 4:44
I like those sounds. I love Teles, but to get something new with them is intriguing. As a bonus, I am going to try and use the thumb and finger picking technique you used.
It is a pleasure to listen to your playing as much as it is to watch such you, an amazingly gorgeous woman! I don't quite get the alternate tones so much as they are lacking in quality! Keep rocking!
Thanks for this video Helen. I love the the Out of Phase sound. I have a Fender Nashville Deluxe which has a third pickup in center. I hope they make a switch for me.
I installed a strat middle pickup and and a 10 way switch to my tele, I'm really happy with it. I also added a 3rd pot with a passive bass cut, which comes in handy a lot too
I put these in just about every guitar I build, no matter what style. I love them so much - and you just made me love them even more. You are so welcome!
Happy every time I see you playing. I will go back and start learning to play a guitar again
Absolutely beautiful. And I also like the tones. 🙂
Telecaster Queen, this is a great mod for more versatility
What a sweet Tele... cool playing, too....
You have your own style never lose it!!
Hi helen, your tone stripper is interesting, but your playing is the only thing that switches me on! Immaculate again 😃😉❤
My first guitar is a start, but I love my tele. Thank you for this great idea. Stay sweet and happy.
Best of luck!
Great demo! I was trying to consider the traditional 4-way switch with the series position, and add a push-push pot for the phase inversions, but this one comes in more handy.
I like this. You really made it sound great. The switch opens up a world of possibilities.
You've made me love the tele even more.
Pretty Kool Helen.
Hello Helen, what a beautiful sound that guitar has, I congratulate you from here in Venezuela, greetings and hugs,,,
Yes mam 🎸 Cool lines at the beginning too 🤘

Thanks for playing the same thing in each position. Very helpful!
Love the freeway switches. Got the 10 tones one on my strat and the 6 way on the tele.

7 years from now Helen will be known as “The Queen of the Telecaster”
Seven years? She might already own the crown.

Hello Helen. I'm sure there is a band of folk just clicking dislike on all videos for no reason at. Anyway ,new guitar ?? Lovely to see you as usual.
I have to confess, I bought one before the video was over. Thank you!
😅Hope you enjoy it!
A fabulous demo! And one that- as, doubtless, many others have noted before- very much also applies to the Vintera series (modified) Teles!
Ojumo timo. Lovely song and your style of play is amazing. 😍😍😍😍
Oh wow that’s really interesting! Small but mighty!

This is a great idea. I would have to get a guitar tech to install it though. And first, I would actually have to buy a Telecaster! 🤣🤣
Go for it. Tele will never go wrong
