  • I've been wondering about having something to play music 'out loud' on in the Retro Corner. Sure I could hook up some speakers to a laptop or PC, but I wanted something independent of a computer (you know... old-school!) that I can play tapes and CDs on, with great tone but yet a compact size, with sleek features.... it's gotta look nice too!
    I think with this Sony CMT-CPZ1, I've found what I'm looking for! :?)

    I got this system probably back in -07 or something when it was still pretty new. Being a kid I had wanted something more flashy, but that one broke within a week and trashed a CD. Not wanting to risk another, I instead opted to swapping to this one without having to pay the slight increase in price.
    Today the same system is still going strong as my everyday stereo that I use for music and connected to my OLED TV to get better audio for games and movies.
    Its one of those things where you look back and realize how lucky you were the previous thing you were intending to have broke so quickly :D
    Great system ^-^

    I recently serviced my Ageing Aiwa V70 Hifi I've had since the early 90's, the 3 Disc CD player couldn't read cd's the twin tape deck hasn't played anything for a very long time, just used it as my alarm clock and the Aux input, so probably hasn't fully worked for the past 14 years :o
    So last year I found I could buy a brand new CD laser (from Germany) and a full belt kit (from Portugal), gave it a full long overdue service and all is right with the world I can play CD's and tapes again :)

      Hi there Simon! A friend from school had an Awia in his house, very similar to yours, again a 3 CD tray loading version. These always struck me as complete units of a Hi-Fi system and I recall the speakers looking particularly impressive and the bass being huge on these..!!! 🤩👍 Well done with yours! It's great that these service parts can still be found nowerdays too. I think I need a belt kit for this, as I found that tapes seem to only FF and not RWD very well... another video in the pipeline! Thanks for watching and your comment too Simon! 😎👍

      Andres, that's a complete bargain! Well done! Yes, they're small, but they pack a punch! 😊👍

      they sound better than some of today's 200-300€ speakers. They are very well constructed, have deep thick boxes with foam inside them, front bass reflex ports to avoid boomy low frequencies, kevlar cones, and damn those tweeters sound crisp and clear. they have quite a flat response too

    I bought this for 430eur in 2006 from Stockmann. The EQ on the remote is equal to the Bass and Treble on the unit.

    Hello Sir I just got mine, the exact model as yours. My problem is that on the second week of using it, the sound suddenly dissapear and sometimes it just suddenly make very loud noise even though the sound is turn down and then automatically turn off.

      Hi there Errol! (I'm sorry I have only just seen your message...! My apologies to you!) That's a real shame, I'm sorry to hear this! A lot of electronics of this era where unfortunately fitted with poor quality capacitors. I do not know if these micro hifis are affected, but if you are willing to take a careful look inside and visually inspect the components, , you might find one or two (possibly in the power-amp section) that have leaked or 'popped'. Replacing any visibly damaged components *might* bring it back to life. 🤞🙂

    I 've tried to replace its speakers with some homemade, full range 15w RMS, 4 ohm speakers. But then, I 've just realized that it was sounding better with its original speakers, so I 've just re-connected their speaker wires to the original connectors.

    Can you help? i just got this today but radio doesn't catch a wave length. Does it need an aeriel????

    • @ChrissRetroCorner
      @ChrissRetroCorner  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi MG! Yes it does. Look for an FM ''coaxial' round barrel connector on the back and a small twin 'poke a wire in' clip connector. FM aerials are about £3/4 here in the UK and an AM 'loop' style aerial will be about £5/6. 😎👍

    Thanks Chris for this great review! I've just found one on FB Marketplace :)
    I heard you say you'll add a Bluetooth adapter. Which one did you go for or can you suggest one that's simple to use? Thanks again! 🤗👏

      Hi there Healinghaven and thanks for comment! 😊👍 I'm still impressed with the sound quality of this, it's really clear and very punchy for such small speakers. Very well designed enclosures! Re BT, I messed about with some cheap ones off eBay and found that several where in fact mono and not stereo, as advertised. There's a jump in price to a trusted name, but it's worth it, my Anker SoundSync does a spot on job. 😎👍

    it handle high tones are sound is dominated by bass? I want to buy this hifi and buy some other 2 speakers for high tones

    • @ChrissRetroCorner
      @ChrissRetroCorner  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there Mikele! I keep the DSGX on and also turn up the Bass to full on mine (I like my sound quite bassy!) However, the hifi and speakers do handle high frequencies very well also. I have removed the driver from one speaker box to have a look inside and there is a passive cross-over installed to separate out the high frequencies to the tweeter. I'm still very impressed with the clarity of sound from this micro hifi. Hope yo uget a sound system that you enjoy! 😊👍

      @@ChrissRetroCorner I looking for used hifi mini component, i dont know english name, on my country is like"hifi tower". Sony has one of the best speakers but its very hard to find outputs like to active subwoofer, most its just outputs for speakers and sometimes optic cable, i need connect my subwoofer becouse i got old logitech speakers and want use subwoofer.

    • @ChrissRetroCorner
      @ChrissRetroCorner  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MikeleKonstantyFiedorowiczIV Ah yes, I see what you mean. This has only the speaker outputs on this hifi. It does not have an Aux output for an external amplifier or subwoofer. Perhaps this is an oversight by Sony, but it was made at the cheaper end of the price range.

    • @MikeleKonstantyFiedorowiczIV
      @MikeleKonstantyFiedorowiczIV 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      just before you wrote it to i realized it, 90% of models each hifi tower has an optical output. So I can't connect it to the sound card, cause i have output too. I still have a lot to learn. Or use normal cable connect
